This shop is without a doubt the worst I've ever dealt with. My mother's 2015 GMC Terrain had an undiagnosed issue on Saturday, July 26, and was towed home from North Carolina. The vehicle was still driving under its own power before being dropped off at Hampton Roads Car Care for a diagnostic. The shop diagnosed it as a loose or skipped timing chain and immediately suggested replacing the entire engine. Instead of approving such a major (and questionable) repair, my mother decided to have the vehicle towed back home to explore our options. When I arrived on Friday, August 2 to inspect the vehicle, I discovered that it had not been reassembled at all. It had been returned with missing bolts, coil packs removed, and crucial components left undone. The next day, I personally went to the shop to demand they put the vehicle back together. They sent someone out around noon, but after "reassembly," the vehicle no longer starts or runs. What was once a running vehicle has now been turned into a 7,000-pound paperweight sitting in my mother's driveway--thanks to the negligence of Hampton Roads Car Care. Based on this experience, I would never recommend this shop for state inspections, repairs, or any kind of vehicle service. This is yet another well-deserved low review for this business. read more

I was told one price and then when I went to pay it was double the price I was given for a oil change and a state inspection if it was explained to me what I was going to be paying for like a extra $100 for service I could have made a choice but they didn't explain everything read more

Came in for state inspection, staff was courteous and service was very prompt. Please note it is first come first serve for state inspection, which was not clear when I made the appointment, but when I called to confirm, I was advised about this, so I came in just after they opened and was taken care of without delay. read more

I was tired of going place to getting ripped off fake diagnostic charge which they can't even figure out what the problem is. They go by the code in the OBD two think they're fixing something because the system has a code in it, and come to find out that is not the proble. I went to Hampton Roads Car Care on Mercury Blvd and they get in there if they charge a diagnostic fee they will trace the problem down and find the real problem. They don't just try to tell you this is the problem because that's what the code says. They actually go in there and diagnose the problem. I've been dealing with them now for a little over two years and they're great friendly reasonably. I go here for my services on my vehicles and I recommend them HIGHLY , and you should too. I had decent service last year for an inspection, terrible service this year. I will never come back here for an inspection. Got here before they opened. Sat in my wheelchair at the entrance. Staff came at 730. They don't open till 8 am. I wasn't invited in. I assumed I had to stay outside until 8. I asked a employee could I come in and he said yes. I'm waiting till 8 to go up to the desk and a lady walks in @ 7:55 and immediately receives service like I ain't been sitting here. I got to the store 40 min early to be 1st in line. Front desk lady told me some soft azz bs reason and stated sometimes they open early. The gall. Mind you I'm a paraplegic. Don't need pity but you can at least speak up and ask can I be helped. Last year they were out of inspection stickers the last day of the month so I came back the next day on the 1st and she didn't have new ones. I had to come back a 3rd day for them to charge me around $400 bucks for something like a tie rod or something. At least last year the lady behind the desk was kind and courteous and could communicate well. This time I didn't even get a professional apology. We're all human but at least act like you can acknowledge it on a business level. I'll never come back here. Terrible customer service. read more

took my truck in for transmission work got there. They called me and said that they diagnosed my truck for no start. My truck never had a no start issue. I asked him. Why are they trying to diagnose my truck when I sent it in for my transmission not going into gear so 23 days went by called again about my truck was told then they worked on my truck without my permission and put new battery terminals in it and I told them did you not read the notes I put with the appointment after they pulled the notes up on the computer then told me after they charge me diagnostic fee no they don't do transmission work read more

If you live in Hampton, Va NEVER take your car to Hampton Roads Car Care on Mercury Blvd! So when I was in VA last weekend my transmission was stuck in reverse but my gear shifter was in park. So my bf with the help of my dad was able to get the car in drive so we could drive it to an auto shop since the Ford dealer was closed. Now I've had this happen to me before it was a recall but since I replaced it I assumed it was good, obviously until it happened again. So these people really were trying to charge me $700 to replace a "broken shifter cable" that wasn't broken. I told them there was a recall for it but they said the issues weren't the same! So we pay the diag fee and put the car in drive and drove back to Charlotte to take it to the dealer only for them to fix the "bushing" and not a broken cable! They refused to refund the diag fee and after talkin to 3 people every single one of them all lied and continued to say the cord was broken! You never get anywhere doing shady business! Would never go to this shop again! We took my girlfriends car in for a broken bushing on the shifter linkage. They told us the entire cable had to be replaced because it was broken and was gonna cost over $700. We declined the service and had the car fixed a few days later at the Ford dealer where they only replaced the bushing and the problem was resolved. Went here to get my tire patched and they informed me I would need a new tire. No biggie but they couldn't get me a new tire until Monday where as costco had the tire I needed in stock. They put the donut on and I drove it to costco. When I got there they informed me my existing tire with the rim wasn't there and to call the shop to see what happened. When I called the shop had already closed and are closed the next day since it's a Sunday. They incredibly inconvenienced me and I have to drive with a donut for days because of their incompetence to give me my old tire back. I'm livid and can't get ahold of someone after hours to get my wheel back. Update: They made me pay to get my tire and rim back. When I came in I stated that I was there to pick up my wheel and the lady at the desk said in the meanest tone "well then you're gonna have to pay". They claimed it was to pay for the service of them putting the spare on the car but that happened on Saturday and they said I wouldn't have to pay anything when I left that day. So they stole my property over the weekend and made me pay to get it back. The owner, Won Oh, then made me put my own wheel in the car after I pointed out that that's technically something I could call the police over and the front desk lady kept saying the meanest things. Corporate and Napa were appalled this happened and BBB was super helpful so at least that's a plus! They claim they work on customer service and professionalism but that could be FAR from the truth read more

Took my son's car here to get a few things, for or five diagnosed. I specified that I wanted to know what it would take to fix this things and the cost before doing so. I figured that way I wouldn't be surprised by a large bill. Why was I called and told that the total was over $1200 BUT just over $600 for the diagnostics alone? $600?! So because I'm a woman and I get crapped on? Well, not only am I a woman, but I am a disabled veteran. And my son is disabled; I am his representative payee. And this is how we're treated? We were told that what they do is not illegal by the woman at the front desk. She also said that this is how her boss, the owner, runs this business. No excuse whatsoever. I was even charged for diagnostics on the thermostat, which I had already mentioned needs to be replaced. It would only be right to give me a partial refund. Until this is made right, I will let other veterans like myself and single parents know not to use this business because they would likely be treated the way that I have been treated. The Worst! Figured I'd give this new shop a chance since there wasn't many cars on their lot. They wanted to charge me $49.99 just to look at a noise on my front end. Really??? Take your car next door to Tread Quarters! It's Free to diagnose the problem! I would give them zero stars if possible. read more

The feeling of trust is hard to find when it comes to leaving your car for any type of service. The frequent updates and friendly service made me feel comfortable with the folks at car care. I went in to get new tires and turns out I had a bad tie rod as well. They called and explained in detail every step they took to fix the problem and clearly articulated what the costs were. I have been to this place 2 or 3 times for minor issues and neither time did I pay for what I came for. The latest is when a $20 state inspection turned to a $1032.00 bill that luckily I did not have to pay. I went in for a routine inspection and as usual they find something wrong. According to Won it was my master cylinder for my breaks and I need a left front tire was told the bill would be 365.00, I say ok cause I needed brakes, I leave my car get a ride to work come back before they close and is told my starter is bad and the car will not start and to fix it will be an additional $402. Mad a d furious could not figure how a car that has not had any issues starting all of a sudden will not start and the starter is bad. Mind you the starter was replaced less than a year ago and he tells me it's bad. the next morning I call and say fix the car and my bill is over $900 and I ask what happened over night that it went up and he states that oh the first quote did not include the master cylinder for the breaks that was just the diagnostic and the tires and I am fuming now and have went ballistic and Won a very arrogant and rude man was a complete jerk along with crew of bubbas that work with him. Needless to say the final bill ended up being $1032. I am 53 and never cried so much in that one day because I knew they were trying to take of me but they had my car. So when I call by the end of the day to see if my car is ready they luckly were able to get my car started but the break pedal was still going to the floor so it may not be the master cylinder so they took it off and put the old one back in and removed the tire and rejected my inspection and pretty much told me we can't help you and to go somewhere else. I think they were planning to stick me , but I made a big stink in the office and on the phone and told them I would be reporting them because I feel like they were trying to take advantage of me. So now a have a car that has a big old rejected inspection sticker that now drives horrible and I have 15 days to get fixed. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS you know a little something about cars because they will try and get over read more
