The room was spacious enough for a comfortable stay, with two beds, a large work desk, plenty of counter space, and a nice setup for relaxing. The beds were clean and looked well maintained, and I really liked the overall modern look of the room. The darker wood finishes and lighting gave it a warm, comfortable atmosphere without feeling overly fancy.

We stayed here for a wedding and boy, were we disappointed. The packwood house is the rooms only…read moreaddition to the Sherwood inn but they are separated by two blocks on the same street. As indicated above, the packwood house is literally, a rooms only space. There is absolutely nothing on site. Guests who want coffee or to just check in/out must do so at the Sherwood inn up the road. This might be ok in most seasons, but in the middle of February when the city is having a polar vortex and the wind chills are -40, it's not ok at all. The rooms are old and not at all worth the per night price point (and there is a two night stay minimum). The bedding is not soft, towels are thin and scratchy. Toilet paper is single ply. You only get two coffee k cups even though they know you're staying a minimum of two night. No complimentary water bottles. The TV is as old as the furniture and no premium channels. It's a big ol NOPE for me. I'd recommend a cute Airbnb or even a holiday inn express room over this place. Save your money this is not the vibe.

The place was also very clean and had appropriate amenities such as a dehumidifier and updated AC unit. The beds were comfortable even though they did not look comfortable, but they were! Pillows were so soft and I was able to sleep comfortably. The bathrooms were clean, remodeled, and large. The breakfast coffee was delicious and they offered a bowl of fruit, snacks, and water at both breakfast and upon arrival... thank you! I would 100% come back. It was easy, cheap, and a great stay for 3 traveling gals.

You walk in but can't get into the lobby-- there's a security window with a telephone next it it and a sign directing you to lift the receiver to call the clerk. When you dio as instructed you can hear it ringing somewhere inside the lobby, and they come to the window (Covid era precaution) and ask your name. Since we had a reservation they had all our stuff ready for us when we got there. Once I gave the gentleman my name he walked behind the counter and returned with the rental agreement and room keys. I signed and we were on our way to the room. The room itself was clean and comfortable, however... The room is laid out very oddly. The coffee maker is on the sink in the bathroom and the extra roll of toilet paper was sitting on top of it. Preparing food in the bathroom is weird at best and unsanitary at worst. The telephone is on the table next to the microwave in the living area, as opposed to on the nightstand next to the bed. The television is near the bed instead of in the seating area and is not visible from the sofa. There is a char with an ottoman with a clear shot on the TV, although it is about 20 feet away, but my husband claimed that chair immediately, so if I want to watch TV I have to sit on the bed but then I can't see him because he's behind me on the other side of the wall. Also, there are no smoking signs EVERYWHERE lol. So many that I half expected to find one when I threw open the shower curtain, lol. I didn't, btw. The faucet in the bathroom was interesting as well. As lift-style faucets go, you lift it to turn the water on and then lean it to the left for hot and to the right for cold. The middle is warm. Not this faucet. Well I mean it is but finding the exact position for warm is tricky. It's either scalding hot or freezing cold and there's a tiny sliver in the middle where you can get warm if you mess with it for a bit. Be cautious. I burned my hands several times. I don't know if all the rooms are like this but 209 was. I'd stay here again. Just know what you're getting.

There were many trucks there. It looked accommodating. But they inside me room 106 which was behind the hotel. When I got to the room, they were in the process of defrosting the refrigerator, and there was water all over the floor. I went to the office, and the owner's wife, who is very kind, came and wiped down the floor and took care of the refrigerator. Another thing I noticed, there were families that were making the surrounding Apartments their home. These apartments are just one bedroom, small refrigerator, and a full bath. Some of the families had four or five members. Kids and adults. Everybody kept to themselves. It was like renting an expensive bed-sit in the ghetto.

The refrigerator was located in the closet and was unplugged upon arrival as was one of the only two lamps in the room. I had to crawl behind the bed (very dusty and dirty) to plug-in the lamp for marginal room illumination. How anyone could report that the place was clean leaves me wondering how some people live. The double size bed was situated up against the wall, making it necessary for the second bed occupant to crawl over the other bed occupant to exit the bed (very thoughtless design layout). This room should have been designated for single person use only. The parking area that was designated for the house guests only was extremely inadequate (tight and dotted with large stones that one had to navigate to exit the vehicle. The main driveway open area was restricted to the proprietors use only. This is slightly short sited and selfish. Speaking about the proprietor, she was missing in action, intentionally avoiding the obligatory social contact that is expected and necessary for a B & B hostess. The minimal breakfast was set out on a small serving table in the front living room and you were expected to share your meal with the numerous bees on the front porch while balancing a plate on your lap. The website pictured dining table was completely unavailable and behind closed doors. We never set eyes on the dining table. All I could think of was a bait and switch game during our entire stay. The swimming pool exhibited a closed sign for the entire period with no access on both 90 degree days. After thirty years of operating a B & B establishment (as is posted on the website), I would expect that the commonly written criticisms would have been improved and corrected by this time. Gail and Gary are just wonderful people who invite you in to share a piece of their home. We are a younger couple (early 30s and late 20s), so in some B&Bs I find a bit of fussiness from the proprietors that makes me feel like I am in a museum rather than a relaxing, homey sanctuary. Well that is NOT a problem here! Wicker Garden is personable. Guests have access to a common living room with fireplace and cozy couch, snacks, wine glasses, mugs, coffee, tea, etc. We sat here one evening chatting away with Gail and Gary, then ordered a pizza delivery. Gail provided us with plates and everything we needed to enjoy a night in (in our amazing accommodations, which brings me to the room....) Rose room- spacious, with a stately canopy bed, a gas fireplace, a couch and a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and plenty of hot water. It was truly our sanctuary for a wintry weekend. The bed had beautiful coverlets and sheets, down pillows. I don't sleep as well at home! And even on 0 degree days, it was plenty toasty all day and night. Now what's a B&B without a wonderful breakfast? This one was top notch. Great, fragrant coffee served in large one-of-a-kind mugs. It seems like a baked fruit, a warm bread and an egg dish makes a basic template for what to expect, and Gail can accommodate any dietary needs. Finally, the grounds/location are picturesque. I only regret I forgot to read or ask about the history of the property. There is a red barn and plenty of open surrounding fields, stars out bright at night. Even snow covered, it looks like the cover of a story book. I highly recommend a stay here. You really can't go wrong. And it was conveniently located for wine touring and proximity to the town of Auburn.

Canandaigua is kind of a swanky Rochester summertime place..in the late fall/edge of winter walking…read moredown to our French bistro...it has the charm but a bit of the desolation of downtown Akron at 7pm (certainly not in the throes of the tourist season..) . Fortunately...this Finger Lakes head-of-the-lake town is very pleasant. We shook up the routine from our usual B and B and stayed here.. a very cool old Victorian place with a very cool Innkeeper (Karen and I talked the merits of Pink Floyd and also the local music venue CMAC). The Innkeeper swapped out her life in Hawaii for a very different kind of winter...but she kept her good island spirit along with the eclectic sense of these Inns. Good DVD selection if you are staying in for the night (along with Roku/cable TV)...including some decent indy movies. Room was charming... nice themes of the Women's Freedom trail on the wall as well. Breakfast was excellent along with some really fine house baked cookies. Easy parking in front.. The downstairs is a nice wood floored living room with the dining area. Will definitely be back..
