There are many good reasons a roadside motel is ranked as Canandaigua's top place to stay. I had driven by many times over the years and paid the place no attention. When my wife booked us a Jacuzzi room at the Miami for our anniversary, I was in shock. "What? That place?" After my first visit, we couldn't wait to come back. I'm rather conflicted about telling others how good the place is versus keeping the secret for myself. You'll have to see it to believe it. The owners live on site and take incredible pride in the condition of the rooms as well as ensuring their guests are happy. I've never found a cleaner hotel room anywhere. Fire up the brightest flashlight you have and see if you can find any dust. You won't. Not under the bed, not behind the nightstand. It's not there. Take a look under the bed. (I wouldn't advise this at any other motel.) Each room is individually decorated and many have Jacuzzi tubs at very reasonable rates. (Real Jacuzzi brand hot tubs, not ones that attract trademark letters from the Jacuzzi people.) Park outside your door, enjoy steam heat, microwave, refrigerator, and a great breakfast along with retro decor. They even have real keys, not key-cards. The Miami Motel is relatively close to CMAC and lots of shopping as well as the Lake. The rooms may be "retro" but I can assure you that no 1960s motel was this nice. You won't be disappointed.

Our stay at Miami Motel was lovely! We got in after midnight and they were very accommodating of our late arrival. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were very clean. Breakfast was a nice assortment of goodies and everyone was so kind! We would absolutely recommend staying here if you need a nice comfortable night in Canandaigua! #SponsoredPromo #MiamiMotel #Canandaigua #NewYork  #HotelStory #Entertainer #TravelIgnite  #IgniteHospitalityServices

I live out of town but have now stayed at this motel on two occasions. I love it! The room was always very clean. The decor is different and funky, but really adds to the place's character. Our room had a jacuzzi tub which was also a plus! The second time we reserved a room, it was with last minute notice and we ended up arriving pretty late in the evening. The owner was very nice about the situation and appreciated that I was a repeat customer. There is also a complimentary breakfast which has a surprising number of options. Whenever I need to stay in the Canandaigua area in the future, it will definitely be here.

Don't think twice if you're looking for a reasonably priced motel in the area. The owners could not be kinder and more hospitable. The rooms are clean as can be, modern yet decorated in Art Deco colors and fixtures. AC, plumbing, TV all worked well. Very nice spread for continental breakfast each day. There's really nothing one could say asa a negative.

Situated just outside of Canandaigua lies a tiny little motel that is on the verge of greatness. Back in the 50's and 60's, these small motels were "thee" place to stay in the finger lakes region. Travelers and vacationers stopped at these little gems and they were it. Fast forward 50 years and many of these places are run down, abandoned, and not a welcoming place to stay. Enter Miami Motel. The anti-thesis of the shady motel and and the corporate hotel. The proprietor bought this place a few years ago and is slowly renovating it and restoring it to it's 20th century glory. It is a work in progress, so they still have some things to do. I think there is a little potential for the finish work (nail holes in moulding, caulking, more decor, landscaping out front) but this may be on the to-do list. The remote to the television did not work that well and if your in the shower...DO NOT flush the toilet...3rd degree burns will get'cha. Overall though, the motel was very clean, modestly decorated to the 50's style, and the owner was very nice and welcoming. Coffee, fruit, donuts and biscotti in the morning was nice too. I would stay here again if I was in the area, and recommend this motel to other travelers that are looking for a place to stay that is different, unique, and something to talk about on the ride home. 5 stars for the owner's dream to keep this place going!

Nice little motel, jacuzzi right in room, everything you need is here.Nice big shower and towels galore. Our Jacques was welcome too with lots of space to go.The owners are right there if you need anything. We will be staying there

A great fun find on a Finger Lakes road trip with exceptional prices. Our king room was newly remodeled with fun kitschy decor. The bathroom has great tile work and dual shower heads and a little glass block wall to allow more light in. The room includes a refrigerator, a Keurig coffee maker, along with a wet bar. The stars of the morning continental breakfast are the 8 o'Clock Columbian Coffee and the Wegman's treats. Perfect while sitting outside our room enjoying the flamingo accented decor and the scenery. A great place to stop and rest!!

This little motel has so much more than meets the eye. The owner is super friendly and accommodating. The owners are restoring this little gem. This motel is cleaner than some major chain hotels I have stayed in. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! We had a king jacuzzi bungalow. The room featured a small dinette. Lots of little touches everywhere. If you love anything mid century, stay here! Nearby to everything. Short distance to parks and lake!!! Can't wait to come back!!! Our room spotless and comfy !

I agree 100% with all the other favorable Yelps. I needed a decent room so I looked to Yelp. As most reviews state, this is a quaint but quirky motel just down the road from Canandaigua. The price was right for the Queen Jacuzzi Suite, so my wife and I ended up having a romantic night. It was a clean room, the beds were extremely comfy and my wife loved the pillows. And I must say that the bathrooms were spotless! Cleanest I'd ever seen. Not even a waterspot! Stay here and you likely won't regret it unless you are too "high society." The owners are great people too.

We generally don't stay in motels, but based on reviews on Trip Advisor we figured this wasn't a bad call, and we weren't disappointed. The motel, was clean and fresh, you could tell the owners cared about the rooms and the quality of your experience. We stayed in a jacuzzi room, it was very cute - decked out in pastels with small touches of decor that made it feel more like home than any mass produced hotel room ever could. Everything worked fine, we had a mini fridge, a microwave and an air purifier in our room, the A/C was remote controlled, which was nice. The jacuzzi worked well, we had plenty of towels. But do bring your own hair dryer and shampoo products because they don't provide them. However, if you forget those, there is a Wal-Mart a minute's drive away. The area is very suburban and feels safe. We would stay again.

Unlike the cookie cutter rooms of the typical hotel, each guest room here is unique, decorated with different antiques and amenities. In contrast to the antique 4 poster bed and traditional decoration, our room had a modern bathroom with a small shower. We also had a large jacuzzi which we enjoyed and a fireplace that we didn't try out with temperatures in the 80's. You can check out the decor and amenities of each room on their website to see which room you would like best. Note that the prices for some rooms do not include breakfast, for those who do not want to indulge, although their breakfast is something you do not want to miss. Scattered throughout the B & B are small refrigerators stocked with complimentary soft drinks and ice. There are several coffee stations with assorted K-cups and a nice selection of teas. Each day freshly baked cookies are put out. Each room has a basket of complimentary bagged snacks. Also scattered around and in the rooms are "emergency boxes" filled with things that you might need, but probably didn't bring, such as scissors, a flashlight, band-aids and batteries. As you wander the halls you will find bookcases with books to read and games to play and displays of tourist information. The grounds of the house are beautifully landscaped and you can sit in a rocking chair on the veranda, or have a picnic at the tables and chairs in the garden. For the more actively inclined, there is a woods behind the house with several walking trails. Each morning the guests would gather in the antique filled living room awaiting the start of breakfast. Breakfast was a communal affair, with all guests seated around the dining room table. Each morning Chef Nate would prepare a five star, three course breakfast. The first course would be a fruit dish such as a fruit parfait or fresh local fruit, the second, a savory dish such as Eggs Florentine or Baked Eggs (like a quiche without a crust) and the meal would conclude with a sweet dish such as crepes, a cinnamon scone, or a waffle with fresh maple syrup. Also available to nibble on were local grapes and freshly baked coffee cake, After breakfast Nate would discuss with the guests what their interests were and would provide us with recommendations on where to go, brochures and maps. While most of the wineries in the Finger Lakes are on the other lakes, there are a few in the area and Nate had passes for a discounted tasting. Lake Canandaigua is a short drive away as is Main Street in Canandaigua. Main Street is filled with interesting little shops, bakeries and cafes and you can spend the day walking from place to place. There are a few minor things about the Sutherland House that some people might find negative. The building is not handicap accessible. There are several steps going up to the main floor, and most of the rooms require a trek up a long, narrow, winding stairway. There is not daily housekeeping service. If you need somebody to pick up after you, this is probably not the place for you. There is no Innkeeper on the premises in the afternoon or evening. In the morning Nate takes care of things, but after that if you need something you have to make a call. The A/C in our room didn't work very well. Fortunately there was a ceiling fan that cooled the room off pretty well, and the floor to ceiling windows could be opened to let in the cool night air. Hopefully, they have repaired or replaced the a/c by now. All in all, if you're looking for a relaxing stay in the Finger Lakes, in a beautiful old building with a gourmet breakfast, I highly recommend the Sutherland House.
