My family was gathered here in town (we all lived here at one point in our lives) for my older brother's 50th birthday celebration and also the Thanksgiving holiday. Since we had such a large group, we found out that they had availability for us to spend our Thanksgiving dinner together here. A little bit of a drive for us, and since our designated mealtime was 5:30 we couldn't enjoy the views from this side of the lake. We had a plated dinner, so it was nice not to fight the urge to overeat and overindulge. The three courses were ample for us to get a chance to try different things, along with items you would never consider otherwise but given the holiday- why not? We were given the private room right on the right side as you walk into the house. It is beautifully decorated, and had ample space for our large group. In these times, supporting small businesses is critical to make sure historic places like the Aurora Inn stay in our minds and lives for decades to come. I rarely get to this area of NY- but if you're there I suggest bringing a close friend, or special someone for a private intimate dinner. Support Small Businesses! read more

We just spend the most amazing weekend here and I cannot recommend it enough! We stayed at the inn this time after staying in houses on our last 2 visits. We chose room 4 for the balcony, fireplace and lake views. It was everything we could have hoped for! The first night we decided to head to Basecamp where Mike & Matt taught us about the History of the Finger Lakes, Intro to Fly Tying and Viking Knitting. The first 2 classes were absolutely incredible and I would do again in a heartbeat (see pictures of our finished flies) but the Viking Knitting was a little more complicated and Mike and Matt were pros but mine and Scotts didn't turn out how we hoped lol. Maybe next time they'll offer card games, haunted tales of the town of maybe just a fireside chat. If you're staying on property you need to check out the Activities Calendar before you go and sign up for these classes!!! Most are complimentary or a nominal fee and are so much fun! Back to the room! After our Friday night out and dinner at the Fargo we decided to just relax in our room all day Saturday. We watched tv and got soup and sandwiches from the market. The room is huge and the bed was really comfortable so it was easy to just get lost, relax and enjoy our weekend away. We had lunch in the little sitting area and snuggled up by the fire. I ventured out in the afternoon to the gym at the School House, which has a Peloton!!! It's great to get in a little workout when it's single digit temp and windy!!! Dinner Saturday night was at 1833 Kitchen and it was perfect as usual. We cannot wait until our next visit and have recommended this place to all of our family and friends and now all of you yelpers! After multiple nights here (long enough to really get a feel of all the Inns has to offer) you will be sad to leave. The possibilities for deep decompression here are so great, & it starts with simply looking around you. Lake Cayuga is a 5 minute walk across the street. Huge, healthy, old trees - including some decades old Ginkgo trees w/history attached to them - are all over the grounds. Birds, butterflies & squirrels are everywhere. Each of the residence areas of the Inns have front porches w/big rocking chairs & a fire pit. We were lucky to get some time with Brittany, who filled us in on Walcourt's history. Pleasant Rowland, founder of the Inns of Aurora, restored this once dilapidated former Wells College dorm into the beauty that it is today. From the handpainted Kusama-esque dots in every bathroom, to the comfy & modern furniture, to the gorgeous art (all from her personal collection) throughout, you get a deep sense of her artistic eye. The common area feels like the most hospitable living room, with binoculars, charming books, board games, a basket of yoga mats, & throws near the beautiful fireplace. A small kitchen area hides glasses, mugs, dishes, microwave, ice maker, & is the place to come for breakfast. Local Simple Roast coffee, yummy house-baked granola bars w/choc chips & raisins, & natural Ithaca label cream-topped yogurts greet you from 7-10am every morning. A bowl of fruit is constant thru the day, & very good local wines are poured from 5-6pm. French press coffee can be requested at any time. Rooms are very comfortable, beds have fluffy feather pillows & are artfully decorated. The most thoughtful touch is a leather-wrapped multi USB/multi outlet box that sits on each side of the bed. ALL hotels/Airbnbs need to immediately get these! The complimentary amenities for the property further support decompression: morning yoga classes in a beautiful room upstairs in the schoolhouse building, SUPs/canoes/kayaks/bikes/Bocce ball, walking historical tours (guided or self guided), hiking trail nearby. Additionally priced activities like private yoga, painting, and tea & essential oil blending are available too. And then there's the brand spanking newly opened (July 2021) SPA. A sprawling-looking estate in itself, it's less than a mile away from Walcourt. They were booked to the gills when we visited, unfortunately. This is the only building that was built new in all of the Inns of Aurora. Foodwise, 1833 is in the Aurora Inn across the street, & Fargo is the bar/restaurant just down the street. The Aurora Market is a MUST for VERY good ready to eat salads, sammiches, fresh pastries, coffee, & an impressive selection of locally made adult beverages. We heard about a Saturday 10a-2pm farmers market & walked by Aurora Cooks - a very limited seating for dinner & brunch a few days/week in an open demo kitchen setting. Shopping wise, the MacKenzie-Childs store/studio is a 10min drive away. Lovely wineries & the Aurora Brewing Co are very close (we saw wine buses w/multiple bridal celebrations going on). The delLago Casino is also in the area. The Inns are open year round, w/winter rates being lower, so make sure you put this on your list of decompression destinations. I had a wonderful spa day here after receiving a gift certificate for my birthday. While the services can be in the pricier side, what stands out about the Aurora Inn is that you can spend the whole day and enjoy all of their other amenities for free! I arrived a couple hours before my massage time and was kindly greeted by the front desk crew. They gave me a quick tour of the facilities and sent me on my way! Before my massage, I was able to enjoy the hot tub, sauna and steam room and cafe, where they serve complimentary snack and lunch options. You can also order alcoholic beverages with an additional fee. As my massage time got closer, I made my way up to the quiet relaxation area. There are several day beds that overlook a picturesque view. It was very relaxing on a cold winter day. Tracey did a wonderful job on my 80 minute signature massage. It always goes by too quick! I can't wait to come back and enjoy their other services. I have also heard wonderful things about the restaurant on site! read more

Upper management helped to resolve issues that occurred during our stay. The Tavern has a local low key feel with warm and welcome employees. I've been there twice. The first time I was with a rather large group and the service was excellent. Being with a large group we had a choice of three entrees. Each looked delicious and all plates were quickly emptied! Last week I took my daughter there for her birthday and we were given the full luncheon meal. After much indecision I decided on the Boston seafood chowder which was a silky creamy with scallops, shrimp and haddock. Superb!! My daughter got the chopped salad with chicken and she loved each bite! When the waitress asked if she could help us, I asked for crackers. Surprise, they don't have any crackers in their kitchen. Within minutes she hands me a package of oyster crackers. She'd gone across the street to the bar and gotten me my crackers! We were pleasantly filled and didn't ask for desserts. read more

This was my third trip here and I'm not sure why this place isn't considered a 5 star hotel. I usually go during December or January to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's a wonderfully quaint set of inns with lots of character. The view of lake Cayuga from the Aurora Inn garden is captivating! It truly is an escape worth visiting. I stayed in the Lakeview king room with fireplace at the Aurora Inn. The room actually had a balcony overlooking the gardens and lake with pairs of rocking chairs. There was chocolate and a small card with a quote in the room. It added a nice touch to the room. The rooms are always spotless! Whilst we were out enjoying the balcony view, a service person came in, lit our fireplace and dimmed the lights - setting the perfect romantic mood. Besides the resturant, I haven't tried the other amenities available but you can see them on their website. Dinner at the 1833 Kitchen and Bar and breakfast in the morning never disappoint. The cozy setup and more views of the garden and lake set an ambience that's hard to find elsewhere. read more

Amazing and relaxing weekend at the Aurora Inn. It is pretty cold this weekend, and we spent most of the time just enjoying the nice scenery and sitting by the fireplace. The front desk staff offered us a warm welcome. Showing us around the room adds a personal touch. The morning complementary granola bars and coffee were delicious. I have never imagined that coffee in bed can be so relaxing. On Sunday mornings, they also offer complementary yoga classes to room guests at the Schoolhouse just a few steps away. Our instructor Jackie was outstanding, and she took her time to teach us basic postures. I felt refreshed after a weekend here, and would look forward to the next getaway! read more

We had a great stay at Inns of Aurora, Walcourt Hall in the last week of August. The building and room decor is cozy and super cute. We got a chance to interact with two of the inn keepers during our stay and both of them were very nice and helpful. They gave us great recommendations of things to do in the area. The evening fire pit with s'mores and wine was the highlight of our stay. The only small complaint that I have from this place is that the description on the Inns of Aurora website is a bit misleading. We were under the impression that all buildings including Walcourt Hall were overlooking the lake when in reality the Walcourt Hall is across the street from the Aurora Inn and there's no lakeview whatsoever. It's still pretty close to the lake and you can enjoy all the activities that Inns of Aurora offers (bikes, yoga mats) but that's not the same as being a lakeside property. read more

The latest addition to the family of Aurora Inn this place is gorgeous. It smells of fresh paints and the amazing interiors and color schemes. Our village room was nice and cozy but all of it rooms miss the lake view as the hotel is not located by the lake side. But it's counterpart, Aurora Inn is just 5 mins walk down the hill where you can soak all the lake view. We stayed at the property on Memorial Day weekend and it was a pricey affair with $169 a night excluding breakfast. read more

The Inn, the waterfront location, and the other restored buildings in Aurora are beautiful- they really stand out above any other option in the area. Unfortunately, this is offset by the manners of some staff. Before arriving, I had trouble with our booking. I was reserving four rooms, so I called to make the reservation and request the rooms be together. A few weeks later I noticed only 1 deposit had been billed to the credit card. When I called back, the Inn confirmed they had goofed and "held" the other 3 rooms, but not reserved them by taking the deposit (these were the last 4 rooms available and were about to be released). On the night of our stay, I arrived before the other guests . Parking and room location is not obvious as the Inn has several buildings. I asked the receptionist at the main Inn and she provided very short, curt responses. Later we checked into our rooms at Wallcourt Hall where we found a very pleasant receptionist and beautiful accommodations. After dinner at Fargo Inn (casual decent fare), we decided to check out the fire pit by the water. Very quickly after sitting down, two employees seemed to sprint over to our group. They informed us a wedding had reserved exclusive use of the waterfront and we could not be there. I did not want to intrude on a couple's wedding, so we quickly departed, but I felt the employees handled it very poorly. It would be nice to know at booking, or at least at check-in, if certain facilities (ie the entire waterfront area) would be off limits to enjoy. The next morning we took advantage of the complimentary Yoga class in the loft which was phenomenal, followed by brunch on the patio with good service and good food. Overall, beautiful place but I'd recommend guests ask about any large events before reserving. I'd also encourage staff to alert guests of off limit amenities before accosting them. read more

My partner and I absolutely enjoyed our sojourn at this beautifully restored Federal style inn. It was remarkable to stay in such a historic property so carefully and thoughtfully brought back to life. As a place to rest and relax, Aurora, perched upon sleepy Lake Cayuga, was the ideal getaway for us. The inn and town is quieter than quiet. Our 'Village View' room was very spacious, comfortable, well appointed, and bathroom was impressive. Staff dropped-off early morning coffee and cookies in a basket left outside our door; I enjoyed having a cup of coffee whilst sitting in a period rocking chair on the porch located off our room, looking over the main street of Aurora. Later in the morning, we enjoyed breakfasts downstairs in their formal main dining room overlooking Lake Cayuga. Service throughout the property was professional and friendly. We felt right at home staying here, and later in the day we always enjoyed sitting lakeside, watching time go by, sipping excellent Finger Lakes wine. Late nights, we sauntered across the street to the Fargo Bar. As for things to do in the town and surrounding region, we recommend walking around Aurora and admiring the old homes. Plus, a visit to see the MacKenzie-Childs showroom is a must, as well as taking a tour of their beautifully restored, yet, eccentrically decorated Victorian 'Farmhouse': I've never seen anything as over-the-top as this showcase home with three floors, each room unique from the other! Lastly, 'Inns of Aurora' have a second property in town called the E.B. Morgan House. Next time we plan a visit to Aurora, I think we'll book to stay there, because the house looked just as fantastically restored as the Aurora Inn. Both properties are architectural gems. read more

This was my first time staying in Aurora, I have gone for the MC sale but wanted an overnight get-away. Let me start by saying, this place is stunning. Walcourt is one of several properties associated with the Inns of Aurora, and while not a lake front property, it is affordable and gorgeous. The place is spotless, the porch and sitting room is inviting. The coffee and homemade granola bars were to die for and our Inn Keeper Gerry, was as gracious as could be. The room was well appointed and updated. The decor is impressive to say the least. We had dinner across the street at the Aurora Inn which was wonderful. This is now on my radar for a re-visit and perhaps try out some of the other properties. One of New York States gems for sure!! Side Note - the Inns of Aurora offer a guided Walking Tour by a gentleman named Dale. It lasted a bit over an hour and was definitely one of the highlights of this trip. He was engaging, witty and a walking historian! He delivered an amazing history lesson about Aurora and it's beginnings and the historical connections associated with this quaint town ... it left me thirsting for more. I will definitely go on this tour again as it was hard to comprehend all of the information presented .. it was like watching a PBS program live .. oh and it's FREE! Bottom line, do yourself a favor New Yorkers ... or anyone for that matter (there was a couple from California on our walking tour) ... Plan a visit to Aurora NY and stay at one of their Inn's ... you will not be disappointed. read more

Perfect walking distance to a few shops and right down the street from Mackenzie Child's! The Fargo is fantastic for lunch or dinner! If you're from NY it should be a must on your bucket list! The perfect luxury spot in aurora. Located right across from the lake in a small cute town. There are multiple buildings with different decor and theme but our was super cute and dainty. The hotel rooms were large and spacious. The interior of the rooms were really well decorated and updated. We especially loved their community room with music and soft couches and their blue berry muffin and coffee as a complimentary breakfast! The staff were great! read more

I am so torn over this review... My boyfriend and I stayed here during the President's Day long weekend and there were moments during our stay where we felt like we were treated like second class citizens, while at other moments we thoroughly enjoyed the Inn as much as any five star resort we've visited. After driving five hours from New York City, we were tired and ready to check in to the room we believed we'd requested - a room with a lake view and fireplace. While we checked the box for a lake view, we were extremely disappointed to find that our room was one of the only that didn't have a fireplace. I had explicitly requested this when I made the reservation. Instead of just apologizing and seeing what they could do, the Inn keeper argued with me for a few minutes saying that her "notes" did not show any request for a fireplace. Here's a small lesson in customer service - the customer is always right. I don't know why, but it really irked me - from that point on, I couldn't help but notice the other ways we were slightly affronted by the staff. For example, we are almost 100 percent sure that we were originally staying in the E.B. Morgan house, but upon arrival found out we weren't. Strangely enough, it just so happens that a large party of elderly regulars showed up the next day and took over the whole house - we found quickly that 'regulars' were given much better service and we believe that even though we had booked first, we got ousted from our original room to allow this party to take over the house. Which is a shame, because Dale the inn keeper at the E.B. Morgan house was exceptional - friendly, knew all about the history of the house and went above and beyond to give us advice on which wineries to try and tips for our stay in the area. I wish I could have said the same about the inn keepers at the main Inn. The three stars mainly come from (a) our only night in the E.B. Morgan house and the fact that they did indeed let us have one night over there to enjoy a fireplace, (b) an amazing dining experience - both the main dining room and the pub across the street had exceptionally good food and (c) Dale. read more

Stopped by for lunch and so liked the ambience that I decided to see if a room was available. There was due to a cancellation. The price was scary, but I decided to treat myself ; ) My room is on the second floor facing Cayuga Lake. It's beautiful - spacious with period furnishings, a fireplace, very comfortable and relaxing. (I love the chaise longue!). I was given a card on which to designate at what time to have coffee and pastries delivered - a "wake-me-up." A full breakfast is served in the dining room till 10 am. The Inn is one of two original buildings in Aurora that have been renovated to original condition (with modern conveniences) to serve as bed and breakfasts. The staff has been very friendly and helpful. A wonderful getaway place. read more

Wow. What an unbelievably terrible experience. If I could give 0 stars I would, but unfortunately it's not an option. I looked into this venue for my wedding, and the staff/management seemed nice enough to begin with. Although it quickly became clear that they couldn't be trusted. As soon as they had their hands on my money the "act" was over. I was treated terribly and unfairly. To think that someone else might make the mistake of giving this place their money to manage their wedding makes me sick. Take my advice and DO NOT BOOK YOUR WEDDING HERE! read more

Came here for a wedding. I must say, the views are very nice - right on the lake. There is seating near the lake with a fire pit. I won't say it was anything greater than a normal B&B (well, I can't truly say, I've never been to a B&B, but this place is exactly as I would imagine what a B&B would be like...so take it for what it's worth!). I'd say it wasn't especially memorable nor was it forgettable. It'll rest in that place in my memory where I will never think about it unless a story comes up about it! read more

A number of old friends met at this inn. Lovely rooms lovely setting. Huge porch is available, great for sitting and talking. Be aware of this town is very very quiet. Not a lot to do other than kayaking seeing the water and going somewhere else. Nearby play in Auburn was great. Restaurant is good. The bicycles were available, but the seats would not adjust and were very hard. The free breakfast was coffee or tea and a pudding like breakfast bar. For some reason all of the help seem to be new hires. Most of the clientele appear to be retirement age. But if you want a nice quiet restful place this is it. read more

My husband and I spent two nights in October at the Rowland House, one of the Aurora Inn's properties. It was far and away the nicest, most beautifully appointed, and comfortable places we've ever stayed. The innkeeper, Brian, is warm and accommodating - he always greeted us with a friendly smile and made us feel completely welcome. I'd have been more than happy to simply luxuriate in our room, which overlooked Cayuga Lake, the whole time, but Aurora is a lovely town and the beauty of the town, and its eateries, especially the Aurora Inn dining room, beckoned. Our first dinner there was so exceptional that we returned the next night. We also had two delicious and filling breakfasts there as well. We look forward to returning to the Rowland House and I highly, highly recommend it. read more

My wife & I stayed at The Rowland House which is part of the Aurora Inn. It is absolutely amazing with breath-taking views. This is a great place for a romantic getaway. The staff here are all very friendly and the service is amazing. The only cons are since being right on the lake there are fruit flys & nats flying all around and some can get into your room. I kept off on me at all times to prevent from getting bitten. Also, the temp of the house on the second & third floors are warmer than on the first floors. We could not get it cool enough in our room on 2nd floor. We booked the wine tour package and had a blast visting all the wineries. It wasn't explained that you are just paying for the driver (which is a must) and then need to pay extra for the tasting fees). Since this was pur first wine tour, a better explanation is with fees is needed. Ask for Ron for your driver, he will give you a great tour and go above & beyond! An excellent Breakfast is included every day at your choice of two different locations. We would def recommend this place and will def come back. This place gave us the relaxation we needed. read more
