$2,000 Stay, Poor Room Condition, and Refusal to Refund Unused Night…read more Beautiful setting, but disappointing room conditions and an even more disappointing General Manager response. My wife and I prepaid the $2,000 required for a four-night stay at Geneva On The Lake in the Finger Lakes in Geneva, New York. Unfortunately, an unexpected medical emergency at home forced us to leave after our third night. We notified the hotel management on our third night and requested a refund only for the fourth night that we could not use - approximately $500. We stayed the third night since we learned of our emergency at 5 pm and could not handle the 7-hour drive home as seniors. The hotel refused to refund the unused night, citing its 14-day cancellation policy, even though we had not cancelled our stay before arrival. We had already stayed three of the four nights and left only because of an unforeseen emergency. There were no public statements on the hotel's website regarding early departure penalties. Their site only spoke to "cancellations made less than 14 days of the arrival date are not refundable". After further correspondence, management offered to refund only 30% of the unused night -- $148.46. I asked them one final time to reconsider and refund the unused fourth night. Nearly three days later, I received no response at all. Unfortunately, that was not our only disappointment. I also took photographs of the condition of our accommodation. They show: * stained carpeting * a torn main sofa cushion * large stains/marks on several pieces of wood furniture * very dirty window glass * substantial cobwebs between the windows and screens which prevented opening the windows I am posting the photographs with this review so prospective guests can judge the condition for themselves. I initially chose not to raise these room condition issues with management because I was trying to resolve the unused night issue privately and reasonably. Geneva On The Lake is in a beautiful location and has considerable potential, but at the prices it charges, I expected considerably better maintenance of the accommodations and, equally important, a more reasonable and responsive approach from management when a guest faces a genuine emergency. The most disappointing part of this experience was not simply that things went wrong. It was how management handled them afterward.

The three courses were ample for us to get a chance to try different things, along with items you would never consider otherwise but given the holiday- why not? We were given the private room right on the right side as you walk into the house. It is beautifully decorated, and had ample space for our large group. In these times, supporting small businesses is critical to make sure historic places like the Aurora Inn stay in our minds and lives for decades to come. I mean really old where you can hear the springs creak and you wake up dozens of times in the middle of the night. The bathroom and foyer of the Ice House smells like feces because the septic tank is so old and not working properly. Stepping from the foyer into the living room shakes the entire floor. The gas stove in the kitchen doesn't work and isn't hooked up to anything. Why bother having a stove then? There were no full length mirrors in either the Ice House or the room in the main house, very inconvenient for getting ready considering many people come here for weddings. Septic tank for the Ice House needs to be replaced and the house needs to be renovated so the building doesn't shake when you walk around. I like a rustic charm where things look old but at least do some upkeep to maintain the property. In the main building, you can smell the septic tank from the lobby. They sprayed a ton of perfume to try to cover it up but the perfume smells awful and now it just smells like perfume and feces. Also spraying that much perfume is disruptive for people with sensitivities and migraines and will give you a headache. For the amount we're paying, we shouldn't have to smell shit during our whole stay. The continental breakfast is pathetic and definitely not suitable for people with dietary restrictions. They have plastic wrapped bagels and pastries and sugary cereals. All refined carbs. Everything has sugar added, including the cream cheese. No almond or oat milk, they only have dairy milk. That felt more like a "f*ck you" than an oversight because dairy intolerance is so common and every place has non-dairy milk these days. The yogurt isn't even vegetarian! It has gelatin in it. The fresh blueberries were nice. We ended up eating in Geneva. Again disappointing considering the price, you'd expect a better breakfast. Overall not worth it considering the price. I do not recommend staying here unless they renovate the property. Shameful as it's so beautiful.

Katie also provided luxurious bathrobes and luxury shampoo and conditioner (TeaTree). We also had access to the dining room and living room, which made it feel like we had a home away from home. One of my favorite parts of the house though was the front porch, which contained two swings and two chairs. It's on the second floor as is their other suite, but they are working on a suite on the first floor for those with problems walking up stairs. Continental breakfast awaited us every morning as a fridge stocked with yogurt, fresh fruit, beer and many more items. I commented they were out of water and upon our return, not only was the fridge fully restocked, but a note with a special touch was provided. It is within walking distance to downtown Skaneateles without staying right in the middle of the main road. There is a big dinning room and living room, along with a beautiful porch with a swing to spend the afternoons drinking a cocktail. They attend to every need you may have i.e. reservations to restaurants and will follow up with restaurant to make sure you had a great experience and the best table. We look forward to our next trip and without a doubt where we will stay!

He chose to roughly rub my breast instead of the deep tissue back massage I asked for; when I complained he ignored me. I was overwhelmed with his strength. I was upset after and cried. Eventually reception came to find me & i was not asked about my experience instead I was asked to quiet down...it was clear this business doesn't care what happens to women here. Instead of contacting me to find out more details about what happened or apologize; the staff worked to have my comment deleted from Yelp and I found out someone from the business had searched my name on LinkedIn and looked me up personally bc LinkedIn tells you "someone from Aurora inns and Spa has viewed your profile" (see photo) I was violated again finding out they stalked me professionally, despite having all my contact information and still chose not to apologize or reach out in on Linkedin. Instead; shortly after I reported the sexual assault professional clients of mine disappeared - I'm not in the spa or wellness industry i work in tech. I had to block the entire staff on LinkedIn to avoid any potential harassment after my last Yelp review and maintain my business after I was sexually assaulted/stalked without apology or follow up Ladies beware.
