Mirbeau Inn & Spa Skaneateles - Mirbeau Facial treatment

Mirbeau Inn & Spa Skaneateles

I scheduled my appointment for a massage and had planned for a full day of rest and relaxation at…read morethe spa. My appointment was in the morning and I arrived about an hour ahead. The spa staff were very nice and took time to explain everything to me, since it was a while since I had been there. I found out at the front desk there would be a skincare event at 11 which fit in perfectly with my visit. I changed into my bathing suit, put on my robe and went into the quiet room, got some water and relaxed until my name was called. My masseuse took me into the room asking my preferences also any areas that needed more attention or to avoid. I got the Monet massage with my choice of scented oil. The experience was first class....my masseuse, Michelle, listened to everything I said. I went to the skincare event and came home with some lovely new items and a nice gift bag of products. I went back into the locker room to enjoy the steam room and the sauna. Then to the heated outdoor whirlpool ( they have a bar outside and a few light food items you can order). I knew I was going to have lunch overlooking the little bridge by the waterlily pond. The hostess was incredibly nice, it wasn't busy so we talked and she told me about the other locations. My French onion soup was some of the best I've had, full rich, flavored broth that was NOT too salty, nice soft bread inside and warm melty gruyere cheese. I had a turkey salad sandwich with bacon, tomato, lettuce and avocado on their homemade cranberry, walnut bread. It came with truffle Parmesan thin fries. The meal was excellent, and the service was great. Everybody I encountered was friendly, polite and helpful. The high level of hospitality was evident with everyone I encountered. The facility was clean and the entire time I was there all the little things were constantly being taken care of. Water refilled, dirty linen removed, areas wiped down, etc I can't wait for my next visit.

Sadly our experience didn't live up to Mirbeau's supposed good reputation. The gap between the price and the value of service was the size of the Grand Canyon. Our room was about $450 a night, closer to $500 after taxes. The rooms are pretty, even in the winter the view of the garden was nice. The bathrooms in the cottage rooms are spacious. Things went downhill at dinner in the attached restaurant. We were one of about 4 tables so it was a slow night. Our server did an adequate job, but the food was extremely disappointing. My fiance reported that there were bits of shell in all of his oysters. The cheese board wasn't very inspiring, for $24 I could have made the same thing myself at home after a stop at Wegmans. My filet was cooked wrong twice, after the second time where it came out still slightly overcooked I had it taken off the bill. My fiance finished half of his wagyu as it also fell very flat for him. Mind you, this was a $140 dollar steak entree, and the chef didn't even bother to salt the meat. We ended up having about half our meal comped and it was still over $300 to eat one of the worst fine dining meals we've ever had. The spa itself, like the rooms, were also just okay. The locker rooms are spacious and well stocked, and kept clean. One place that's lacking is that there's not enough waiting space for everyone. The "tranquility" waiting room with the foot pool is not enough room for people who are trying to lounge/meditate AND for people to congregate waiting for their spa services. It was awkward not really having somewhere to sit. My massage was ok, it felt more like a Swedish massage than it did a deep tissue. There wasn't any opportunity to request more attention be paid to certain areas with more tension (I told her my right arm is usually more sore and she kind of just ignored me and didn't touch that area at all). My masseuse said I was breathing incorrectly so I was too distracted by my breathing to enjoy my massage. We ended up cancelling our second night. I will never recommend Mirbeau to anyone.

I HIGHLY recommend staying here if you want to enjoy your time in Skaneateles I would definitely stay there again . My husband and I enjoyed our time here , it's right in the middle of everything the beautiful town of Skaneateles has to offer , food , shopping , coffee houses , bakery's etc .... The shower in the bathroom is to die for and the loft had a full kitchen so if you don't feel like eating out you can stay in and cook and enjoy your meal at the table right by the doors looking out at the lake , can't wait to plan our vacation for the summer time and bring the kids with us this time , they would love it just as much as we did ! Our hostess left us a list of instructions and tips and was very quiet and respectful of our privacy. We could call her if anything went wrong, but otherwise, I didn't actually see her. I wouldn't have been opposed to this though because I wanted to thank her! Katie, our host, created an incredible breakfast bar. There was Oui yogurt, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, cheese, a variety of cereal, oatmeal, milk, orange juice, coffee, and tea. She had also generously stocked cookies from a bakery, granola bars, bags of nuts, biscotti, and other easy-to-grab snacks. Our suite was beautiful. My pictures don't really do it justice, but there were two chairs, a drawer, table, and a TV in one side, and everything we needed for a bedroom on the other. Katie also provided luxurious bathrobes and luxury shampoo and conditioner (TeaTree). We also had access to the dining room and living room, which made it feel like we had a home away from home. One of my favorite parts of the house though was the front porch, which contained two swings and two chairs. I loved starting my morning on the covered porch and will have a hard time leaving that behind. The location is incredible, allowing us to walk to the lake, restaurants, and any shops we wanted to visit. Katie was the perfect host. The decor was stunning and our experience couldn't have been better.

We were on a fast trip for a wedding and allowed us only to spend two nights at 34 State. We so appreciated Katie & Jack's kindness, hospitality and helpfulness. Not to mention getting kisses from their beautiful lab, Oakley. We stayed in the elegant Barrow Suite. It's on the second floor as is their other suite, but they are working on a suite on the first floor for those with problems walking up stairs. Continental breakfast awaited us every morning as a fridge stocked with yogurt, fresh fruit, beer and many more items. I commented they were out of water and upon our return, not only was the fridge fully restocked, but a note with a special touch was provided. It is within walking distance to downtown Skaneateles without staying right in the middle of the main road. There is a big dinning room and living room, along with a beautiful porch with a swing to spend the afternoons drinking a cocktail. They attend to every need you may have i.e. reservations to restaurants and will follow up with restaurant to make sure you had a great experience and the best table. We look forward to our next trip and without a doubt where we will stay!

As indicated above, the packwood house is literally, a rooms only space. There is absolutely nothing on site. Guests who want coffee or to just check in/out must do so at the Sherwood inn up the road. This might be ok in most seasons, but in the middle of February when the city is having a polar vortex and the wind chills are -40, it's not ok at all. The rooms are old and not at all worth the per night price point (and there is a two night stay minimum). The bedding is not soft, towels are thin and scratchy. Toilet paper is single ply. You only get two coffee k cups even though they know you're staying a minimum of two night. No complimentary water bottles. The TV is as old as the furniture and no premium channels. It's a big ol NOPE for me. I'd recommend a cute Airbnb or even a holiday inn express room over this place. Save your money this is not the vibe.
