The room was spacious enough for a comfortable stay, with two beds, a large work desk, plenty of counter space, and a nice setup for relaxing. The beds were clean and looked well maintained, and I really liked the overall modern look of the room. The darker wood finishes and lighting gave it a warm, comfortable atmosphere without feeling overly fancy.

As indicated above, the packwood house is literally, a rooms only space. There is absolutely nothing on site. Guests who want coffee or to just check in/out must do so at the Sherwood inn up the road. This might be ok in most seasons, but in the middle of February when the city is having a polar vortex and the wind chills are -40, it's not ok at all. The rooms are old and not at all worth the per night price point (and there is a two night stay minimum). The bedding is not soft, towels are thin and scratchy. Toilet paper is single ply. You only get two coffee k cups even though they know you're staying a minimum of two night. No complimentary water bottles. The TV is as old as the furniture and no premium channels. It's a big ol NOPE for me. I'd recommend a cute Airbnb or even a holiday inn express room over this place. Save your money this is not the vibe.

You walk in but can't get into the lobby-- there's a security window with a telephone next it it and a sign directing you to lift the receiver to call the clerk. When you dio as instructed you can hear it ringing somewhere inside the lobby, and they come to the window (Covid era precaution) and ask your name. Since we had a reservation they had all our stuff ready for us when we got there. Once I gave the gentleman my name he walked behind the counter and returned with the rental agreement and room keys. I signed and we were on our way to the room. The room itself was clean and comfortable, however... The room is laid out very oddly. The coffee maker is on the sink in the bathroom and the extra roll of toilet paper was sitting on top of it. Preparing food in the bathroom is weird at best and unsanitary at worst. The telephone is on the table next to the microwave in the living area, as opposed to on the nightstand next to the bed. The television is near the bed instead of in the seating area and is not visible from the sofa. There is a char with an ottoman with a clear shot on the TV, although it is about 20 feet away, but my husband claimed that chair immediately, so if I want to watch TV I have to sit on the bed but then I can't see him because he's behind me on the other side of the wall. Also, there are no smoking signs EVERYWHERE lol. So many that I half expected to find one when I threw open the shower curtain, lol. I didn't, btw. The faucet in the bathroom was interesting as well. As lift-style faucets go, you lift it to turn the water on and then lean it to the left for hot and to the right for cold. The middle is warm. Not this faucet. Well I mean it is but finding the exact position for warm is tricky. It's either scalding hot or freezing cold and there's a tiny sliver in the middle where you can get warm if you mess with it for a bit. Be cautious. I burned my hands several times. I don't know if all the rooms are like this but 209 was. I'd stay here again. Just know what you're getting.

There were many trucks there. It looked accommodating. But they inside me room 106 which was behind the hotel. When I got to the room, they were in the process of defrosting the refrigerator, and there was water all over the floor. I went to the office, and the owner's wife, who is very kind, came and wiped down the floor and took care of the refrigerator. Another thing I noticed, there were families that were making the surrounding Apartments their home. These apartments are just one bedroom, small refrigerator, and a full bath. Some of the families had four or five members. Kids and adults. Everybody kept to themselves. It was like renting an expensive bed-sit in the ghetto.

However, if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, warm, romantic place to stay-you will feel yourself home. And her awesome family style breakfast on a lovely patio with astonishing views of the Lake will make your stay even more romantic. Over 24 hours after our arrival, we still had not been provided with a garbage bag or can. When we complained to Diane about the service and accommodations she said "you should be grateful for the gift you received". She also asked us if we'd like to just leave, without a refund. We told her we would be staying, that we were still unhappy, and that we still needed that garbage bag. She also told us that we would need to clean the kitchen before we left, the kitchen that was dirty when we arrived. I let her know that all of the dishes had been present upon arrival. She had the nerve to call the kitchen "well used" in her review of us. That kitchen was dirty, but it was in that state when we arrived and I would be leaving it as I had found it. We ate every meal out, nothing was prepared in that kitchen. As the weekend went on, we were in need of additional toilet paper. Cumulatively, we had received 1 roll for 5 women, with a Friday through Monday stay. I sent Diane a message requesting toilet paper at 9AM and again at 3:45PM. Sometime after 4PM she replied, letting us know that additional toilet paper could be found in the room connected to the first small room. We used a butterknife to pop the eye and hook lock on that door, as this is the door that only locked from the outside and we didn't have access to. On our last evening there, we returned to the Villa around 10PM. Upon entering, the smell of dirty dog was pungent. No dogs had been seen. We made our way to bed. At 3AM we were woken up by the sounds of the voices of other guests. These guests were utilizing the common room located just outside our divider, they were also using every single light in the room. Much to my dismay, my shutter door doesn't really block light or sound, so I laid awake in my bed made of wicker. The guests returned to their rooms around 4:30AM. At 6AM we were woken up again, this time by the barks of the dirty dog in the room at the end of the hall. In summary, we were duped. We spent $1,750 for 3-nights at this location. $250 of that was a cleaning fee, something surely not happening at the Cayuga Lake Inn. We were treated like garbage and made to feel unwelcome. I will never recommend this location to a single person I know. I have no doubts that this used to be a beautiful location, but it is horribly maintained. Diane's knick-knacks and open books line every surface in the rooms. You can write messages in the layers of dust on the tables. If you're reading this Diane, your common room table says "Hi, Diane!" I'd love for you to go check. Wipe it while you're there, you can use the paper towels we brought from home. Stay away from the Cayuga Lake Inn. Beware of outdated positive reviews. There is no one working at this location except Diane, and she sucks.

I had to crawl behind the bed (very dusty and dirty) to plug-in the lamp for marginal room illumination. How anyone could report that the place was clean leaves me wondering how some people live. The double size bed was situated up against the wall, making it necessary for the second bed occupant to crawl over the other bed occupant to exit the bed (very thoughtless design layout). This room should have been designated for single person use only. The parking area that was designated for the house guests only was extremely inadequate (tight and dotted with large stones that one had to navigate to exit the vehicle. The main driveway open area was restricted to the proprietors use only. This is slightly short sited and selfish. Speaking about the proprietor, she was missing in action, intentionally avoiding the obligatory social contact that is expected and necessary for a B & B hostess. The minimal breakfast was set out on a small serving table in the front living room and you were expected to share your meal with the numerous bees on the front porch while balancing a plate on your lap. The website pictured dining table was completely unavailable and behind closed doors. We never set eyes on the dining table. All I could think of was a bait and switch game during our entire stay. The swimming pool exhibited a closed sign for the entire period with no access on both 90 degree days. After thirty years of operating a B & B establishment (as is posted on the website), I would expect that the commonly written criticisms would have been improved and corrected by this time. The location is perfect, with private off-street parking, and a short walk to the shops and restaurants on the Main Street. Take a walk down the Keuka Outlet Trail or bring your bikes for a ride around the lake. It's ten minutes to Seneca Lake, and the closest wineries are just down the road. The Trimmer House is a stunning Victorian home with beautiful sitting rooms, a large, covered front porch, and cozy bedrooms. The en suite with the clawfoot tub was a selling point for me. Bessie's Room was spectacular. It was spacious, comfortable, and the shutters made for the perfect conditions for sleeping. I've never stayed in a B&B, and the Trimmer House has set the bar incredibly high. I can't rave enough about the breakfast - the food was amazing! Quiche, tarts, fresh food, bottomless coffee. I have a hard time believing there is a better breakfast in town. Bravo to the amazing hosts for creating such a comfortable, luxury experience in Penn Yan. Worth every penny and more!
