Our first trip to denver with the kids and we were looking for something quick to do in the morning after we arrived. I looked up Tripadvisor and Hammonds came up a bunch of times. Turns out you can book a timeslot online and do a tour of this candy factory that still churns out everything by hand. Boy was this a gem of a find! As a kid I always loved candy, seeing taffy being pulled on the boardwalk of Santa Monica was always a highlight. Check-in Process: You check-in with the front desk and go check out their great candy shop store.. The Tour started right on time, they sit in the room and you watch a 5-10 min video on the history of hammonds. Then they walk you into the factory, this was no cheesy little tour. A guide came out and explained the process of creating the candy of the day. Ours was taffy and she walked us through the process of pulling and stretching the taffy. We were able to see a good 20 minutes of the candy process right before our eyes. A really unique and fun experience. Then you are walked into the packaging section and WOW this is all done by hand as well, completely amazing to see all the workers doing this. At the end of the tour we were given a chocolate filled candy cane which was awesome! Candy Shop: All the candy is obviously made by Hammonds its very reasonable considering you are in the factory. I love supporting local businesses. I always look for things like candy shops to distilleries and local food products in the area. Well found Hammonds which is a bigger production plant that sell to lots of familiar stores. Candy canes are their known along with chocolate bars. Took a quick free tour since there, why not. While it was only 2 of us it was fun and informative. Got to see how things are made 1st hand. At end of tour couple of "broken" treats for use to try. I do like their motto, if theirs left overs in the candy making or cut too short it gets thrown back and melted again. If packaged and damaged hey we getting samples! Outside of tour in the store lots of their candies can be bought. My family absolutely LOVED our visit to Hammond's Candies. We loved that it was easy to schedule online in advance (great for planners!), FREE, short but engaging, started with a great (very funny!) video, and ended with adorable photo opportunities. We arrived on time for our tour. Hint--hang back when you go into the room for the intro video. The people that enter first are asked to get up out of their seats and make room for the people that enter last. Those that enter the room last get the best seats. The tour is along windows just outside of the factory, and you get to see alot of employees hand making candy, which is fascinating. It's about 30 minutes and goes by quickly. I felt a tad bad for them, they must feel like zoo animals, but I guess they know that going in. I hope that they are paid more for that inconvenience. We got a candy cane sample at the end that was huge and free as well. We shopped in the gift shop and picked up a few more, and got our pressed pennies. The kids got adorable "Hammonds" paper hats that made for cute photos. It was a leisurely, stress free enjoyable morning. So glad I added this to our trip itinerary! Hint--bring a small (even soft sided) cooler with ice, because you will want to buy some of the creative chocolate bars (potato chips and bacon chocolate bar anyone? After the movie, we did a small tour of the factory. The tour was pretty quick, but was informative. After the tour, you are led to the candy store. Great tour!! Definitely stop by here if you have kiddos - it's a real treat. You can smell all the sugary goodness from the outside. The tour is about 30 min and totally free! Starts off with a lovely short 10min video about Hammonds and how it started. Then they take you to the production floor where you can actually see cooks making the hard candies (twirling, cutting, kneading, everything!!!) You can literally see everything happening - there are several TV screens which our tour guide flipped through different cameras in the building to see aerial views of staff working and explaining what's going on. It was quite fun to watch. Then of course at the end there is a free candy cane! Their store is cute and significantly marked down than retail spaces. My daughters and I were in Denver for a softball tournament and we had the chance to try a few places. My favorite stop in Denver was Hammond's! My daughter went to a hitting facility nearby with her team and so my 10 year old and I had a little while to kill. Hammond's was nearby, so we stopped by. I asked the front counter about the free candy tours and he said to go around the front to ask if there are any openings because you have to make an appointment. The lady said if someone does not show up, we could join the tour. As we waited for the tour to start, my daughter and I looked around the candy shop. She was looking at the commercialized candy and didn't pay much mind to the local Hammond's brand. I told her after the tour we can pick out some candy. As the tour time was about to begin, I went back to see if there were any openings, and there were! The tour starts in a mini theatre type and they show you a movie. It was cute an informative. Then, the candy tour is guided to the factory where you get to watch people make candy. The guide was very useful and she answered everyone's questions. You then move towards the back where there are more areas to view candy making. The guide also directs you to the cameras where you can view people making candy. At the end, you get a free homemade candy cane. Once you leave, you are right back in the candy store. After the adorable tour, my daughter put back all of the commercialized candy and only chose Hammonds brand candy. It was so cute to see the selection switch after the tour. This is such an awesome FREE thing to do in Denver! They offer tours every 30 minutes of the factory and it's totally free. At the end of the tour, they even gave each of us a full size candy cane! You can also get a paper hat too. The tour itself began with a 10 minute video explaining the history of Hammond's candies, then we got to move into the back to see how some of the candies are made. During the tour they have TV monitors so you won't miss what the tour guide is explaining. The tour was well organized and efficient. The tour itself is very short, but super informative and interesting. At the end you get to shop in their retail store! They even have an "oops" section where the candies are cheaper. The tour, although fairly short, really gives you a good look at how the candy is made and just how much work goes into making it all. I happened to find this place while searching for things to do in Denver. I'm glad I booked out tour 2 weeks before arrival. I heard the lady answering phones turn callers away. Because of covid they are limiting number of people per tour. Our group actually arrived early and ended up leaving and coming back at our scheduled time. (No big deal as we had a time scheduled). My family really enjoyed the factory. Tour include 10 minute video of history of Hammond candies. Then you get to go in the back and watch people make candy. At the end you get a free sample candy. Anyways there are these marshmallows covered with caramel- takes over 24 hrs to make them - but so good. The marshmallow texture is so chewy and different from what you get in store. Hammond's Candies offers free tours (lasting half an hour) of their factory. You need to book online to reserve a spot. There were only about 10 other people on our 10:30 am tour for a Saturday. Fortunately for us (but unfortunately for the employees), they still make candy over the weekend, so that was nice to get to see some candy-making in action. The tour ends in their factory store. The candy is actually not that cheap there, like I would expect it to be at its own factory. They do have some items on discount like broken lollipops, or chocolate that's about to expire, but that's about it. We bought a few chocolate bars to bring home to try, but they were way too sweet in my opinion. FYI - It's about a 10-15 drive from Downtown Denver, and they have a big parking lot. read more

I am new-ish to Denver and somehow I had never heard of Hammond's before. Now that I know it's so close to my house, this is not going to be good! I might be back a little too often... I was introduced to them through a Yelp Elite event, so I did get some items to try as part of that. However, I purchased a few more things on my own so I could try a wide variety of their candies. I am in love with the Peppermint Hot Cocoa. The flavored popcorns are really good too. One thing I now regret is leaving without any chocolate truffles. They all looked amazing and I will be back! I haven't eaten much of the candy yet, but everything I've tried has been really good. I love that it's homemade and local. Sure, it's more expensive than what you'll find on the standard candy aisle of the grocery, but if you can afford to support a local business it sure feels good to do that right now. read more

A sweet treat and a fun, free visit for anybody local or tourist. We headed here based on a couple of lists of things to do in Denver Colorado and this was included on them. It was only a $15 Uber ride from our hotel and it was a quick trip. The building itself is located in a warehouse area and might be a little bit difficult for your driver to find so be sure to look out for the signage with Hammonds name. The tours run every half hour up until 3 p.m. they willgive you a hand stamp that corresponds with the color and time of your tour. The tour started right on time and we were taken back to watch a brief video about the history of the company. After the video we walked to the back where you can see through windows the factory floor. The first viewing station showcase the candy actually being colored and made. The second viewing station showed us the candy being packaged and labeled for shipment. It was really neat to see all of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into the life of a piece of candy. Once the tour was over it ended with us walking into a small candy gift shop. We definitely bought some of the candy since we can't get this easily at home in Orlando. Some of the things we bought include apple cider, chocolate covered marshmallows, solid chocolate bars, and a magnet with the Hammonds logo for our fridge. Overall: A Fun, free, tour in Denver!! I was able to go here as part of a Yelp Elite perk. We got a free little gift bag, though I didn't arrive in time to take a tour of the factory. The candy store was pretty cool with a lot of old time penny candy available for purchase as well as Hammond's specific products. I purchased a few chocolate truffles and some "oops" caramel. Some of the candy was quite expensive, but some was more moderately priced making it accessible to most. I wouldn't likely purchase their truffles again. They are quite expensive and weren't anything exceptional, but my sister did like the ones I got her- I believe one of which was the chai one. The caramel I used to make some caramel shortbread bars I had a recipe for. It is not my favorite caramel I've had, and I probably wouldn't use it in a recipe again. The flavor profile wasn't my favorite and the texture was not as chewy or creamy as I'd hoped. I would definitely recommend this place as a fun place to take children for a tour of a candy factory. I think they'd likely love it and marvel at all the candy available in the candy store after. As I mentioned before they do have a lot of the old penny candy that is harder to find a lot of places nowadays, so it may be worth visiting for that as well. Hammond's Candy factory. Hmmm, how do I describe such a delicious, delightful place? Let's see, remember all those reactions you saw in Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory movie ? When the children came into the huge candy room and practically everything was edible? Wondrous amazement, that would be my reaction. It's in an industrial area, parking in the lot is easy. The huge sign itself on the side of the building is welcoming. Upon walking into the welcome center I was greeted by the sweetest person checking in for tours , ha ha get it ? Sweetest? OK , enough of being punny. Tours seemed to be about 15 minute intervals. Other Yelpers have said to call first, I would take that recommendation. I believe you sign up on their website. As we waited for our tour, I walked down a hall of candy canes, 10 for a $1. The hall was filled with the scent of wintery peppermint sweetness. The shop was medium sized and filled with delicious treats from wall to wall. I was in confection overload! Candy prices varied, there's a treat for everybody, even on the most dire budget (free is the cheapest! They give you a free signature Hammond candy cane after the tour) They called my name when my tour time was ready and was lead into a theater that kicked off the tour. I won't spoil information. But the whole time I was in this room and thinking of the name "Hammond's" I was just replaying the image of the original Jurassic Park movie tour with Jeff Goldblum in my mind. No dinosaurs here , but with all the delicious candy , something was going to get eaten! After the film you enter the viewing rooms and you see the magic of candy making! Delightful for sure.
