Hammonds candy factory is a fun little tour of interesting facts about the brand and how it started. Ive been too many different factory tours and most of them you cant see anything since mainly everything is machine automated. On this tour almost everything is made by hand by the busy factory workers moving the big glob of molten candy from the mixing bowl to the stretching machine and then to the cutting table where it is then wrapped and put in a box, still by hand. After the tour, each person receives a free piece of candy and can buy other items in the retail store. The tour is less than and hour and is a nice place to stop if you are in the Denver Merchandise Mart area of the city. read more

It's a good spot to take tourists. The free tour is fun (and free hat!). The store is expensive (more expensive than the cost of their candies at King Soopers downtown), though. Check the oops candy or find out when the garage sale or Christmas in July sale is happening. Then there are some great deals to be had. Sometimes we visit after a holiday like Christmas or Valentine's Day and look for bargains, too. Hammond's is a fun little piece of Colorado history to share with guests. And even if the prices can be steep, it's fun to get a giant lollipop or a delicate piece of ribbon candy when you're here. read more

Wow wow wow. I've never enjoyed a tour this much. First of all, it smells like heaven- literally and figuratively it was sweet. We went on the 10:30am tour on a Monday and were definitely the only child-less attendees there. Children were swarming the factory! Tours start every half hour and don't require a reservation. A pre-tour highlight was the smushed penny machine which offers four unique designs such as one with the Hammond's candy cane. After watching a sweetly cheesy informational video about the factory's history, our tour guide led us through the factory where we watched factory workers make candy cane and popcorn and candy cane and chocolate. It was just long enough that I did not get bored. The tour does end in samples-- which in our case were deformed candy cane rejects, yay! I spent an inordinate amount of time in the "Oops" section of the story which features other misshapen rejects who are as deserving of love as their perfectly formed brethren. I was especially into their unique chocolate bar flavors, such as horchata. This tour was my one of favorite tours of Colorado-- don't waste your time at the Coors factory. read more

First off, the candy is fantastic. However, the company appears to not hire people with "personality" or "enthusiasm." Gloria, although a great candy maker, was a very poor tour guide. The tour was too short and the script she "read" was embarrassingly boring. If you have kids, be sure to let them know that not all adults are boring and crusty (like the ones who work for Hammonds). Also, not sure why they stamp your hands for the tour, seems unnecessary. Bathrooms were adequate and are decent to say the most. read more

I should have known better than to visit during Christmas season, actually not just the Christmas season but during the Candy Cane Festival. I thought it would be a fun experience to go with a friend and her four-month-old baby since they had advertised all sorts of free activities like face painting and pictures with Santa and hayrides and so forth ... in reality, they weren't free since you had to buy tickets (ranging from $1-$3, some activities requiring multiple tickets) in order to participate. Also, if you think it's crowded on weekends or during the holiday season in general imagine it being tenfold worse. The normally short factory tour was even more abbreviated, and both the retail shop inside and the big tent that they set up outside were insanely crowded. It turned out to be a great day for people who enjoy queuing up in line. I know, it sounds like a nightmare, but I am still a fan of Hammond's Candies. I love that they manufacture (by hand) candy canes in so many flavors. Their art candies are some of the most beautiful around. Okay, and political correctness plays into it as well - how could you not like a company that continues to manufacture in United States? Yes, during the Candy Cane Festival the crowds were a hassle, but the day was still worthwhile if only for getting blocks of caramel for a dollar a pound (apparently they had manufactured too much the day before). I don't think I ever need to come back for the festival, but I would visit the factory again during a slower time of the year. read more

What's cooler for a kid than touring a candy factory and watching people work huge ropes of malleable sugar into thin strands, cut it and form it into ribbons and bows with deft, practiced hands. Decent factory tour offered at Hammond's. You watch a 5 minute video and then walk through the candy making/processing line to view what's happening inside through a series of big windows. We went at 2pm on a Saturday and there wasn't much going on - just a few folks making candy canes (which Hammond's apparently does all year long). The tour itself probably took 10-15 minutes. We got a free sample at the end of the marshmallow candy which, if I'm being honest, was gross. The tour dumps out at the gift shop where I found everything to be seriously overpriced. Overall, the tour was alright - free so I can't complain but full of loud kids, a blase tour guide, and not a lot of actual information about the candy making process or the company. read more

The candy is definitely a treat if you are into the whole old-fashioned candy, but by far THE FUDGE is what you should nose dive into. I came here on my birthday for no particular reason. It just happened to fall on my birthday. It was such a fun little tour to go on and really getting to see how they make their candies. If you're not sure what to do in Denver, this may be a cool place to come with a sweetie (HAH get it?!) or your kids. Or by yourself...except you may be marked as a slight creeper. 30 minute free tour. Staff is friendly and tries to be funny. Not much of a tour but I guess that is what you get for free. You walk down a hallway with windows peering in on employees working. The more interesting part was the historical timeline of the company that is no longer a family owned company. Free candy factory tour on one of the best candy makers?! What else can we ask for? Hehe. We're from out of town and wanted to see something from Denver and found Hammond's. Bam! Get in the car and go! The theater area during the tour was a little small and some of the people were standing up to watch a short video so I wished there were more sitting room for them. There are cameras and TVs on the tour so if you can't see what they're pointing at, you can look it up on the screen. Would be nice to see a better quality camera shot but we can live with it. Our tour guide was great (as well as the other staff) and it was a nice experience on the process of making candy. Watch out for the candy store--they eat your wallet! Haha. This is a fun, free way to use up an hour in Denver - especially if you have children. I don't have kids but the group I was in, everyone had brought their children. This tour, depending on your guide, really tries to cater to children. They start off with a short movie about the history, with some quiz questions then you are led through a door to the start of your factory tour. You see the machines, the employees working and they have cameras inside to display things on a tv where you're standing because you can't see far past the windows. At the end of the tour, like everyone has said, they give you free candy treats as a takeaway, which is neat and nice of them. I did notice that +97% of the employees working inside the factory were NOT Caucasians and +99% were women..... this was an observation I made when a Caucasian father in my tour group asked how they were able to be competitive with mass manufacturing companies, since Hammond's was the last remaining factory that made everything by hand. read more

Friendly & old school staff. We happened to come on a really active candy making day--really interesting to see the handmade candy making process. Kids were engaged the entire 30 minutes. What's cooler than watching candy canes being made?! Free candy at the end of the tour. Reason enough to go! The tour ends inside the fancy candy 'shoppe.' I took the parents here when they were visiting from out of town. It was a Tuesday afternoon and it was absolutely packed! Not sure if it was just a fluke, but it was crazy crowded. We ended up having to wait 1.5 hours for a tour (so we left and came back). They are currently having their "Garage Sale" which means lots of "Oops" broken candies at dirt cheap prices (25 cents to $1). The tour was really disappointing. They "added" an extra tour at the end of the day because they were so busy. When we walked through the viewing rooms of the factory there was no one working. The tour guide struggled to explain the process, seemingly befuddled by the fact that there were no workers to watch. Yes, it's a "free" tour, but still there should be some sort of knowledge acquired by wandering through the factory, right? read more

I grew up with this candy always at my grandmas in jars on the table but never knew where they were made. The history of the place and the machines are amazing! Not what we expected. The tour took a total of 30 minutes or less. In the introduction room one of the overhead vents was dripping water, a number of us customers reported it to the lady in the front check in, but she didn't seem to have any concern of anyone possibly slipping, etc. Ridiculous! There wasn't much production going on at our 2p tour to accommodate our tour group size (30 people maybe) to view. Then you're rushed to the packaging/labeling area without a chance to read some of the informational pieces on the walls. Would I go back or recommend this place, probably not. read more

I saw that the Hammond's candy tour was listed on a "Free Things to Do in Denver" list that showed up when I was searching for things to do in Denver on Google and I have to say, it was a sweet time. I'll admit, the location of the factory was a little shady for me and I drove past it once, but it's nothing terrible. We arrived a few minutes before the tour started so we waited around in the lobby with others. The tour itself was very simple and short with a short walk through the factory and watching camera views for areas that weren't open to the public. At the end of the tour, we were given some yummy candy and bought some more in the store. All in all, the entire experience took a little less than an hour and didn't cost much. Note: It's definitely not a long, all day main event kind of thing - it's just a short and sweet quick stop so if you're spending a day exploring Denver, you should schedule some other things to do as well. read more

After driving through the factory slums of Denver, I was happy to see a waiting room filled with families and... free candy! I had entered a diabetic person's hell! The tour's leave every half-hour, so it was an easy wait (did I mention the free candy?) A very informative grandma-lady showed our group a short movie before leading us to the candy-making area. My daughter and I took the free tour today. The tour starts with a video that is actually pretty informative. It's Saturday so it was a slower production day for the factory, there wasn't a whole lot to see but we did see a sugar/water mix being taken off the heat and put onto the cooling table where they added candy that was extra/ leftover from previous batches to the cooling batch (candy recycling) and we also saw some candy canes being rolled and cut. Next we saw the packaging area and the tour was over! We did get some candy canes as a take home. We ended buying some milk chocolate peanut clusters (so good!), some gummy worms (also very good) and Taffy which we have yet to try, and I spent all of $7. I would recommend visiting! read more
