There are enough athletes at every level to give you something to aspire to. The coaches are approachable and programming never gets boring. There are sometimes time-caps but they are not strictly enforced if you want to go beyond them. There are areas in the back to do stretching and finish up if you want to. You can also do your own work out there if you don't want to do the class (needs 24/7 access level.) I love the Sunday workout. It is usually more cardio, a bit more relaxed, usually almost full, and everyone just having a great time during and after the exhausting workout. CrossFit Fairfax is truly the church of my family - just a great group of coaches and athletes united in a desire to get and stay physically and mentally healthy. CrossFit Fairfax is very reasonably priced for the area with family and military discounts. There is a 24/7 option that gives you access to the gym anytime on your own ($15/mo extra.)

Fantastic box, Amazing coaches, large space, and challenging Workout Of the Day…read more The coaches are fantastic. Jeff and Julie are amongst the best crossfit coaches I've ever had the opportunity to train with. They break down each movement down to its most simple step in order to ensure you complete the movement correctly, helping prevent injury and making you stronger. There are always 2 coaches in every class I've attended, sometimes 3 coaches; this gives you a lot of one on one attention! The box is big with loads of space. When class has a lot of people you still do not feel "crowded." They have a good number of bars at all levels (45, 35, and even 25lbs). The plates are in good shape and in the first 2 months there I've seen new ones come in. Plenty of rack space. Oh and a nice stretch mat! The other athletes are pretty cool people. There are some serious athletes at this box but there are also plenty of regular people and even some children. You decide how hard you want to go. There is no judging or intimidation but lots of POSITIVE reenforcement. I love the 2 "big ass fan" helping keep the place cool. Give this place a try regardless of you experience level.

For CrossFit specifically, the energy is great, and you get to learn how to do the movements correctly, but at times (mainly when I first started), I've felt a bit judged and lost. It really depends on the instructor and the time you go. Hyrox, on the other hand, is great since you're usually in groups, which makes it feel more structured and supportive. All of the peak instructors I've had have been really friendly and motivating! The owner is also very welcoming and encourages bringing friends, offering a free trial class so you can see if it's a good fit. *Workouts: Classes usually have about 10-25 people, and you can go at your own pace. I typically go 4-6 times a week, switching up which classes I take. When I first started, the workouts felt tough, but over time, they've become much more manageable (results, yay!). Personally, I'm one of the most unmotivated people when working out alone, and they do a great job of encouraging you to show up at least once a week. The classes are a mix of bodyweight exercises, weights, and cardio, so there's always variety. *Pricing: I pay $159 a month for unlimited classes (~$6.65 a class if you go 6 days a week), which also includes 24/7 access and amenities like massage chairs and saunas. When I first started, I was on the $99 plan for two classes a week, which is a good option if you're not ready to commit fully. *Overall Thoughts: Halo Fitness is a great option for anyone looking for that little extra push. If you're new to CrossFit and have the time, I'd HIGHLY recommend going a bit early and asking questions so you don't injure yourself and don't feel so lost walking around, wondering what you need for the workout and which stations aren't taken.

You're constantly being told "good job" and cheered on. The results we've experienced have been amazing. Going between 3-4 times a week, we've both toned up considerably and gotten a lot stronger. I lost a few inches in my waist and gained a few in my shoulders... exactly what I wanted to do. Now that we've been there this long, we can both do just about all of the exercises with no problem. After completing Elements I purchased a monthly membership (which includes yoga and various workshops, as well as the opportunity to take classes at their sister gym, CrossFit Adaptation in Shirlington), and promptly cancelled my "traditional" health club membership -- no more treadmill for me! I emailed every single xfit gym in the Annandale/Burke/Fairfax//Arlington area looking for a place to call home for the summer, and Crossfit Annandale was by far the most responsive, had the most reasonable rates, and seemed the friendliest in that initial email exchange. Once I got to the gym, the athletes were friendly, encouraging, and generally awesome. The coaching staff was incredibly knowledgeable, emphasizing good technique while also holding every athlete accountable for doing good work (read: leaving you gasping on the ground like a fish out of water when the wod was over). Sam, the owner, was at the gym basically every day, either coaching, or working out, or doing one thing or another to improve the facility (some days, I'd wager all three); he and his wife are so rad, and their attitude totally comes through in the way the gym is run. It feels like recess, it feels like home, it feels like it works! I had multiple PRs over the summer (bench press and double-unders, as well as strict pull-ups), and I'm certain that it's because I loved showing up to Crossfit Annandale everyday and just trying to kill every single workout. That's the kind of environment they've created at their gym, and I, along with every other athlete I saw there, left every single workout smiling. Go there. Work hard. They push you to give it your all, but they do so in a way that is encouraging rather than intimidating. No matter what shape you are in, who you will be entrusting your body to is very important. I can say with full confidence that every single one of the what? three bad reviews? Of Sweatbox  should be cast aside because they are irrelevant since none of them talk about the actual sweat method and what it does to your body. Firstly, if you are worried if fat shaming/ageism exists here. The answer is a firm NO. I am older, I am overweight , and I was  welcomed with open arms, made a part of the family immediately, and that has not changed since the first class. I went to one OrangeTheory location a year or so back and was full on fat-and-age shamed and that made my self esteem spiral down into dark abyss for a very long time. Because words hurt, because I am already so vulnerable and frightened to cross the threshold of the gym, I need support, not otherwise. SweatBox is all welcoming, all inclusive type of place. Yes, they are located inside an exact copy of the Globo Gym from Dodgeball, (I got jokes) but just walk to the back of the first floor, to the Sweatbox counter, as far as I understand, gym and them are two separate entities. I purchased a 7-day, $34.00 unlimited trial pass online, came 30 minutes early for the instruction session (important to come early, instructors won't say no to you if you show up 5 minutes prior to class, but ultimately you are shorthanding yourself on the instruction part - don't you want to know as much as you can about bike set up, and components of training? And remember that instructors have other student s  to take care of prior to class) I began my training on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019 and I made sure to come every day, dragging my self in sometimes, even if my body screamed to go get nachos instead. The instructors I've experienced during the trial week were: Alexx G Shawn M Kevin D Ashley D I loved all the instructors, Alexx is all tough love, just as described in his bio, but I love his light show and music choices. Kevin has an amazing aura and energy and makes you feel included. Then comes Ashley, wow. I don't know if she somehow hypnotizes the class, but you get in the zone, stop thinking of outside world, and all you focus on is her voice, her example poses, and her corrections, nothing else. At the end of the class, when you finally come to, you realize that you worked out for a full hour and  never looked at the clock once! Shawn is a rare soul. I have my collection of special, big hearted people, the list is short, but Shawn is on it. First of all the energy during his classes is through the roof, he is so charismatic, you WANT to do good to show him your appreciation. But my experience with him is also more personal. When I felt embarrassed, questioned myself, felt weak, cried like a baby after second class, Shawn in the gentlest of ways supported me, was there for me, helped me get past those hurdles and I cannot be more thankful. He always has words of encouragement, listens with attention, he is present. What an amazing human being. To sum up - 15 lbs. down (results will vary of course) and I signed up for an unlimited monthly. They got me good.
