I recently dealt with Hamby Home Services during a mold issue in my apartment. The owner, Charles Hamby, was professional when I spoke with him directly and clarified proper mold remediation protocols, specifically correcting misinformation I had been given by Tony Majcher, who I was told works under him.
Tony Majcher's conduct raised multiple concerns. He advised me to run a carbon filtration unit with airflow blowing into the filter, contradicting manufacturer guidance and standard remediation practices that require air to be pulled through the filter. I ran the unit as instructed, and after several hours, I noticed what appeared to be mold on the exterior of the filter. My apartment also began to smell strongly of paint and I experienced symptoms similar to mold exposure. Given that Tony is a painter, I became concerned that the equipment may have been used at his painting jobs, a possibility that, if true, could have contaminated the filter.
I messaged Tony with photos and questions about the setup, he ignored my messages. After I contacted the property manager, Tony returned on July 29 to inspect the setup and reversed the airflow. On July 31, he returned again, and we called his boss, Charles Hamby, together on speakerphone. Mr. Hamby contradicted several of Tonys earlier statements, including the claim that the filter could operate in either direction, and that fogging my unit wasnt necessary.
During that same visit, at around 10:00 a.m., I detected a strong smell of alcohol on Tonys breath. When I brought it up, he became defensive so I informed him I'd be contacting the police. He immediately left the premises.
I appreciate Mr. Hamby's professionalism and willingness to clear up technical misinformation. However, I strongly encourage more oversight over those representing his company, especially when dealing with health-sensitive issues like mold remediation. The public deserves transparency and adherence to industry safety standards.
