I called DuPage Radon and the very nice woman who answered the phone made it sound like they might cover it, but when she talked to her boss, he said no. Their quote to replace the unit was $400 (they were originally paid approximately $1,200 five years ago) and the soonest they could do it was New Year's Eve. I was able to find the exact same model radon fan at Home Depot for $150 and it literally took me no more than 15 minutes to remove the old unit (and I've never done this before). I'll install the new one when it arrives in the next few days. I don't know about you, but $500 an hour for labor seems excessive to me. Obviously I'm in the wrong profession. Meanwhile, I'm going to remove the DuPage Radon sticker from the cover just out of spite.

They told me they expected to complete the installation by 3 PM in the afternoon. They appeared to work diligently in the basement and garage, competing the work around 4 PM at which time Ruben took me on a tour to observe the new, functioning mitigation system. On the day of the install, the guys who came out worked efficiently and did good quality work. When complete, they showed us what they had done and explained how to maintain the exhaust fan in the system (basically nothing, just listen for odd sounds and check the negative pressure every so often).
