So I usually don't write reviews but I feel like this information needs to be known but this review isn't completely bad but here it goes. So I've been hiring this company every season for the last 5 years to tune up my boiler. Up until the last 2 years I haven't had a problem with the service, so recently I had called to get a tune up for the season but I had already let them know that I've been getting an error message on my control screen which says ignition failure so the call turned into a maintenance call. So the technician came out he was very nice and professional and checked it and cleaned it out, and didn't know what was wrong with it. So he recommended that I get my burners and control panel replaced which it would have been 1900 dollars to fix because he literally said "what else could it be". So I paid for the service and he left and 4 days later it stopped working and I received the same message so I called back again letting them know that it's not working and I have no heat. They were going to send him back out but I spoke to another lady which I'm assuming was the manager, she was rude and said that there's no point in sending him back out if he doesn't have the parts that he recommended fixing and I told them that 1900 dollars is a lot for a problem that there unsure if that's the issue. So I contacted a different technician and found out that the problem was the gas valve and the rectifier were not working properly and found out the the heat exchanger was never cleaned from Chris heating and cooling technician so I was pretty upset that I paid for a service that was never done. So safe to say that I will no longer be hiring this company for service. I don't recommend their quality of maintenance. read more

No one looks forward to replacing their furnace, but I've been sincerely impressed by the education, customer service, and quality of work from Chris Mechanical. The project manager (Bill) clearly explained the pros and cons of different options and took time to answer all my questions. The scheduler (Linda) was SO apologetic when she called asking if we could reschedule so they could prioritize helping people without heat in a cold snap. And the engineer (Tom) did careful, clean, and thorough work with solid communication throughout. I've used both lower-cost and bigger-name providers for this kind of work before, but never had a more positive experience. read more

We had a major leak from our boiler. Our repair man did a great job of explaining what had happened and what needed to be fixed.

Why did our furnace have to break down on the coldest day of the year? We called Chris Heating and were surprised that they sent out a tech in only 2 hours! Xavier was able to diagnose problem as a faulty thermostat and he replaced it with a new one. He also found a few other minor problems that he fixed. Normally I do not write reviews but this time I need to so that I can share my story. This is the first time I am writing because of the bad service and how I was treated by this company. Recently a new furnace was installed in our home. Per our Contract, air cabinet filter size 16x25x4 supposed to be installed in the new furnace. However, they installed the wrong size filter tray without informing me. I was told they can't do it but when I contacted other HVAC professionals, they stated that it is doable and just have to move the return air vent a bit to fit the right size filter. My assumption is they do not want to do it because of the extra work they had to put on this work. I have a chronic allergy and by installing the thicker size filter, its helps to get better air quality inside my house. Bill, the service manager "Filter expert" kept telling me 1" and 4" inch do the same job, which I believe is not true. If that's the case not sure why they have different size/quality filter available? He may need to do little more research on this. I reached out to Holly (very nice and polite lady) from the office and left the message with her few times and was told the Owner (Jon) will contact me which never happened. I had also communicated with their Sales Manager, Bill and requested but he was very unprofessional, rude, and accused me of harassing and told me to stop calling them which is not true I may have called them no more than twice. Also, he threatened me to block my phone number when I requested him if they could fix the issue. As a customer, I have every single right to ask and question when something was not done for what I have been promised for. I have contacted several Gov agencies to investigate their unethical business practice. Please be aware and be carful doing any business with them. read more

Armando came out to do a clean and check on my furnace and humidifier. He was very thorough, knowledgeable, and professional. He even made some adjustments to make the furnace run more efficiently and replaced a part that was starting to fail. Also went down to the crawl space to check for air flow or air leaks in the system. He made some recommendations to improve the air quality as well. Very satisfied. read more

I chose Chris Mechanical because of all the glowing reviews on Yelp, and because they are local. Additionally they are on ComEd's recommended 'Trade Ally' list and I was planning on getting a rebate to help pay for the installation of a new highly efficient AC system. I chose an AC unit with the highest efficiency I could get, and I was told that it would match with my current furnace. I was told that I could apply for the ComEd rebate on my own after installation. Linda, the lady who scheduled my new air conditioner install ensured great communication, they fit me in quickly and the workmanship was great. They took away my 24-year-old AC and the new unit was up and running within 5 hours. After work was complete, I was offered a $25 discount if I reviewed Chris Mechanical on Google, Facebook and Yelp. I paid for the work without taking this discount. I asked about the paperwork I would need to file for my ComEd rebate and the man who installed said that he didn't think that I would qualify for any rebate, but I could pursue it on my own. After many phonecalls to Bryant, the AHRI directory, ComEd and Chris Mechanical, I have come to find out that the AC units installed are not a verified match with my furnace blower although both are high efficiency...and so I don't qualify for the $350 ComEd rebate. It feels like such a let down. I wanted a very efficient system, and I can see that this unit is using less energy than my previous one...but I wish I knew that it was a quality match. My recommendation: Chris Mechanical is very nice to work with, very pleasant employees who do great work. Ask Chris Mechanical for an AHRI reference number BEFORE you sign any paperwork or pay any down-payment for your new unit...and then you'll be golden! We have used Chris Mechanical for years at our old house. When we moved to our new house there was no question who we would use for our HVAC needs. Our furnace went out soon after moving and we had a new one within a week, with no pressure to upgrade or include a new air conditioner. Installation went flawlessly and the area was cleaned up perfectly. A promised new thermostat was forgotten, but a phone call got it installed in a timely manner. Excellent and friendly service. Arrived on time and promptly found and corrected issue that my original installer did not. My compressor made a loud buzzing noise on my first startup and it was found to be over charged, it's likely it was causing slugging of the compressor which can cause damage. They are a Bryant factory authorized dealer with NATE certification and more. Found them on Bryant website after contacting Bryant with some questions and I will definitely be calling Chris Mechanical for all my heating and cooling needs in the future! read more

Every 6 months one of their technician checks out the furnace of air conditioner and there has never been a breakdown. Great company to work with!!! Reasonably priced, too. Family owned business and local. They care about getting it done correctly the first time. Had them come out and install an Aprilaire at my older son's house. The furnace was in a closet covered with pvc pipes from the original instillation. They took the time to re-route everything to where it should have been in the first place and then installed the unit. They also identified the "leak" coming out of the furnace room...the furnace was installed with out the proper pitch so water would not drain into the drain...just the floor. I had an issue with my heater blowing cold. I spoke with Chris Mechanical Services at approximately 8am in the morning and by 12 noon or so there was a technician on site who fixed the issue. My heater is now clean and running very well. They explained what they did and why they did it so I understood how they resolved the issue. I will call them again if the need ever arises. read more

The service is always great....friendly, efficient, prompt. I only have one suggestion for improvement. Change the vendor for the new air conditioners. I bought mine two years ago and as hard as your service people tried, they could not eliminate the noise that it makes. It's not the guys, it's the product. This is my first time that I have ever posted a review for a business, so please know how impressed I am with this business. They are very trustworthy and truly care about their clients and their work. Over three years ago, Chris and Dave replaced our very old furnace and air conditioner. We were very pleased and everything ran smooth until just a few weeks ago. We were having a problem where our furnace would stop running. This winter in the Chicago area has been below 0 even before the windchill factor, so you can understand how fast the house would chill. They came out right away and tried to find the issue. After consulting with the manufacturer, they believed that they fixed it. The morning that my husband and I were on a 7:00AM flight out of the country, the furnace had stopped running again. I was on the phone with Chris who not only came in and found the real problem, but came in and checked on our house while we were gone. Now that is true service and care for their customers. read more
