This place has something but it's not what I'm looking for. My wife likes Chinese food while I don't. I should say I like a good genetal tso chicken for about 30 minutes until I feel a general malaise and the msg head ache kicks in. This is what I ordered tonight. It did not exceed my expectations. My wife liked her crab Rangoon. There is a scene here in the lounge, so there's something going on. The restaurant is a little dingy. I wouldn't go as far as to say dirty; just a little sticky like a thin coat of sweet and sour everywhere. read more

Haluwa - You will be hungry again in 10 minutes - Chinese Near Me - Nashua, New Hampshire

Not sure what Molly's problem is, doubting the Haluwa love from the West Coast... but I am also living in California but I lived in Nashua until I was 18, and, whenever I am in Nashua I need to eat here. Like "Andy B." I am totally biased because this was the "Chinese" food I grew up with, but nothing triggers nostalgia for my youth like the Haluwa pu pu platter. I love the fried shrimp, chicken fingers, spare ribs and chicken wings like no other! I have not eaten here regularly since 1991 so I can't vouch for the current level of service, but Mr. Lew, the (now former) owner recognized me when I visited in recent years, even though I hadn't been a regular since nearly 20 years before. I will be in Nashua in September 2015, and will eat at the Haluwa, come Hell or high water. read more

I'm being very generous with those 4 stars for 4 reasons: 1. People watching was superb! (Mind you I was there about 6pm and people in the bar clearly had been there for the better part of their afternoon) 2. Mai Tai's were surprisingly delish even though I'm sure it was mostly premade mix & some booze, but they got the job done. 3. Our food came out in 7 minutes. I'm not even kidding. 4. They have an old school cigarette dispenser. I don't know if it works but it looked cool. So yea, not the place to go for over the top service, food, drinks... But I had a good time, I didn't get sick from the food & our total tab for all our food & 6 drinks came to less than $50. read more

I REALLY don't understand what everyone dislikes about Haluwa. I've never had a bad meal there and I've been eating there for years. Granted, we always get the Pupu Platter, so I really don't know what the rest of their entrees are like. We also normally go during non-peak hours and slow days. We went today (Tuesday at 3:30 pm) and it was all perfect. Everything was fresh and hot. It was slow so we had our food in about 10 minutes. And to Eric N.- Who cares if they've ever updated their menu? Its easy to read and its not like they need to keep up with the latest trends on chicken fingers and fried rice. Its not like Chinese-style American is a rapidly changing food market. read more

We came here with low expectations, nothing about the dining experience impressed us. The only positive part of the experience was a smiling waitress. Here is my review of the few items we ordered: -fried shrimp - shrimp was cut in half and there was sooo much batter, you couldn't taste shrimp. -crab ragoon - no flavoring in cream cheese. Tasted like fried cream cheese. -wonton soup - served with hot water, at least that was how the broth tasted. -veggie lo mein - it was made with fettuccine. I did like the big chunks of veggies. Although there were not enough for my taste. Does seem like the bar is happening. It was a Monday and it appeared busy. read more

Fool me once, shame on me. Never will I go back here. I heard decent reviews about this place so I figured I would give them a try. The food at this establishment is down right bad. I really have no idea how this place is even open. Their duck sauce tasted like puréed apples. The amount of breading on the chicken fingers was also quite disturbing. The general tso's chicken was crunchy and heavy on the fry batter. Fine if you like that kind of thing, I personally don't. The rice, I don't even know where to start with the rice. Just gross. The egg roll was the only halfway decent thing I ate. What a waste of $$$$. read more

I'm giving this place 4 stars because the food is terrific, I love it the pupu platter is my fav along with beef with broccoli! The only thing I dislike are the waiters I feel like they're just unfriendly and stare you up and down, other than that I like the place. read more

I went on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday party. The room with the bar feels like it should be full of cigarette smoke. It's kind of like walking into a time machine. This was amplified by the fact that they had an 80's cover band playing (and they were good)! The service was great. One woman was running all over the room and somehow managed to keep everything straight. We had a huge group, about 30 people. The people watching is not a joke. I couldn't believe it, certainly entertaining. I'd give the food a 4/10. The bar was great, and so was the service. We have ordered from here a few times because they deliver, which is awesome. Bathrooms are something out of 8 Mile. read more

Can't go wrong with Haluwa. IMO, the best chinese in the area. The food has a very polynesian flair to it, which is the type of food I prefer. From the appetizers, to the entrees, it is truly a go to place when I want my MSG fix :) Lobster Sauce is amazing. Atmosphere is inviting, and gets quite lively during Kareoke night. read more

This is one of those spots that you are going to love it or hate it. It is old and outdated and probably needs new carpets and seats kind of place but honestly I just love it as is. We ordered a couple of scorpion bowls, and lots of apps, rice, lo mein and chop suey... all the basics. The waitress was awesome, it took a bit for her to come to the table but there was a lot of people in there, however once she came over she was fantastic and she had an amazing personality, she made us all laugh. Dinner was good, drinks were good, service was good. It just has a good vibe to it if that makes sense. A fun place to be. read more

General Gau tastes similar to sweet and sour, bones less spare ribs don't have any flavour, nor does the hot tea, it's coloured water. Waitress is extremely slow and didn't offer anything to drink other than water that tastes like toilet water read more

Before you go to this place review all pictures they put on line for people to see how the food they serve look like. In one of those pictures you will see a plate with ....looks like fried piece of chicken meat with FRIED ANT on the top of it ( extra fancy meat for free ) WHAT ELSE THEY FRYING IN THEIR KITCHEN? read more

Love it here the waiter was nice and gave me a whole thing of tea.Check out there beef sticks and poo poo platter love it

Interesting atmosphere when totally genius karaoke and patrons that are totally into it. The food is mediocre. I would cone here for the vibe and drinks but not for the fine dining. Still, worth a visit every now and then. read more

Haluwa - Chinese Near Me - Nashua, New Hampshire

Very Rude Waitress! I came here a second time because I liked their eggrolls, and this time my GF and I ordered a Pupu platter, we asked the waitress what was in it because the menu did not specify. The waitress did not like us asking her this question. We asked her for a substitution, which she also did not like and we were allowed only one substitution even though we we're paying for it. The order came out with the wrong substitution, we pointed it out and she blamed us for it. The owner who sat us down was very polite and I've had a decent experience there before, but this lady was so rude from the beginning that we had to leave ASAP! read more

If you are looking for good Chinese food, keep on looking. Drinks are good though. Some of their food seems like it has been cooked in old oil. Terribly disappointing. The last time they updated their menu seems to be in the 1980's. read more

Disgusting. Clientele is lacking. Food is gross. Beyond gross. Needs a serious cleaning. And renovating. Or just taken down. That bad.

Figured I'd give this place a shot since it's right down the street from me. Got take out one night and it was absolutely the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Right up there with the worst restaurant food I've had, period. The place was dingy inside and stunk like cigarette smoke, I swear the food did too when I got it home. Maybe the smell was just stuck in my nostrils, I don't know. Pricewise, it was right up there with Chen Yang Li or Lilac Blossom, only nowhere near as good. As far as the food itself, I ended up throwing most of it out; it was just that bad, and I am the LAST person you'll ever find wasting food. I'd recommend Chen Yang Li or Lilac Blossom like I mentioned, or for just a quick take out place, 98 on Amherst St. is pretty good. read more

Oh man is this place bad. All the worst things about the human race all rolled in to one terrible eatery. Like a nightmarish episode of some 80's soap opera type bad. The decor, and the food, which I wonder if it's still frozen from the 80's. I can get over a tacky restaurant, but bad food? No thanks. While my boyfriend and I were eating here I distinctly remember looking at him and asking him if it was worth the effort to mail Gordon Ramsay a strongly worded letter about this place, and to see if we could get this place on Kitchen Nightmares. The answer of course was no. Never going here again and writing a strongly worded Yelp review requires much less effort and I'm eternally lazy. read more

I like the food here. Its not spectacular but Its good. Its a great place to people watch and the drinks are good. Now for the service....it SUCKS AND THEY COULDNT CARE LESS read more

Went there to have a drink with my girlfriend last evening. Walked in and gave the man sitting down our I.D.'s. He proceeded to tell us we smell of smoke and should only do one intoxicating thing at a time.bNeedless to say we turned around and walked out. If you want to feel uncomfortable and get lectured I suggest you go here. As for me, I don't think I'll be back. read more

After a long week of work I didn't feel like driving to one of my usual Chinese take out restaurants for my Friday night take out. The Haluwa is very close to where I live so I figured I'd give them try after a long hiatus of not ordering from them. I hadn't ordered from them in about a year. All I could recall was that their Chinese food was a little bit expensive compared to their competitors and average tasting. But after a long week I figured I could live with that to reduce my Chinese food commute. I ordered a Pupu Platter for two for $18 and some pork fried rice at $5.50 (per allmenus.com). My wife goes down to pick up the order and it's $27.25. Now New Hampshire Food tax is 10%. The total should have been $25.85 (23.50 x.10 = $2.35. $23.50+$2.50 = $25.85). How they arrived at $27.25 is beyond me. Maybe the rice went up? Not only do I get the bonus price increase but I find they cheap out on what they deliver for the price. I go through the takeout and find there's one eggroll for a pupu for two? (And yes, it's a small eggroll). Then they put in half of a container of duck sauce for all this food. You need that the duck sauce in order to force down all the deep fried, batter encapsulated fillers they put in with the "pupu." Then the icing on the cake was the rice. Tasted like regular rice that someone dumped a bunch of soy sauce into. I didn't even eat that so that was a waste of my money. It's hard to believe I had such fond memories eating at this restaurant when I was a kid. From now on I'll just suck it up and make the commute to the battery of Chinese restaurants on Amherst Street. read more

Formerly from the Nashua area, but now live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Always have to return to this restaurant during trips back east - the food is always delicious, drinks are great (my favorite is their Mai Tai), and their long-time staff are always friendly and accommodating. Prices are very reasonable as well. read more

The food is still hit or miss here. They deliver so there's that. And I somehow trust the food here over other options (that deliver) in Nashua. Maybe because everyone in my family goes here and has never gotten food poisoning? Still hate it, but love it at the same time. I don't know, it's Americanized Chinese.... read more

The food was good (better than many similar places), and the wonton soup was amazingly good. We went in the off hours (about 2pm, and the service was tough, because there was only one poor server on, but she did a great job managing about 8 tables at one time, and 2 big parties within those. Just make sure you order with no MSG, or you will definitely feel it for the next few hours. read more

This place has been around since the 70's and I don't think they have changed it much. You will always get a good pour on your drink and the traditional American Chinese food that has been a staple for the Chinese restaraunts has always been tasty. Not out of this world, but tasty. It's a hangout for many and the bar service is never really great, but again, they have been there forever and do a decenct job of maintaining this traditional style restaraunt atmosphere, food ,and drink. read more

Hit the Haluwa on a Saturday night - it was busy and it took a loooong time to get a drink. But when I did, the Mai Tai was just ok. But let me tell you..... That cover band - Street Legal- rocked!!! Lots of people dancing!! Great set list.. Some sweet ladies undulating to the beat. One red head was whipping her hair around like some 80's metal vamp!!! And another lovely polish chick spanked her own bottom a couple times, I think. SWEET!! Good times!! 3-stars for the band and the rockin chicks!!!! Would definitely hit that place after 9:00pm on those Street Legal band nights! read more

We LOVE the Haluwa come down every year best food and entertainment always a great time hope u reopen soon we are coming lol

Ok for cheap Chinese food but not always that great. Last week I ate there and had the saltiest pork fried rice I have ever had, borderline inedible from sitting so long I'm guessing. The server was very nice and had them make me a fresh one. The fresh one had NO FLAVOR, he must have thought I wanted no salt or pepper! I guess I just can't win here, best of luck! read more

I don't even smoke and i noticed they have a cigarette machine. The drinks are pretty fast good. The food is worth is too. Definitely a with style Chinese restaurant/dive bar. read more

i got delivery tonight and everything was terrible. sesame chicken was battered like sweet and sour chicken fingers and was overly sweet. wonton soup over stuffed with dry pork and greens, tasted like vegetable broth. also, i gave the driver $3 then when i look at my bag it says the total, and $4 gratuity! i wasn't informed they were adding gratuity. so my driver got a 25% tip. (the driver was nice even tho it was 50 minutes for delivery). steer clear! read more

Ive been in the lounge a few times on Thursday nights for Karaoke. The staff is always friendly. The drinks are great too.

Good place for food that is not too expensive. The wait staff has always been nice to me, and the bartender Mike is a great guy. I have been going here for years read more

If you like the Hong Kong in Chelmsford, you'll probably like this place. strong drinks, old style american/chinese food, bar with entertainment, non-pretentious atmosphere. Sometimes I want the Fung Shue food in Chelmsford, other times a poopoo and drinks at Halua hits the spot. I think this kind of place appeals to folks who liked the 80's chinese / american food - before it turned into high end cuisine - like, before sushi became popular. I go here, I like it. read more

Food not bad. Service was horrendous. Waited 15 minutes to place an order, them waited over 20 minutes for barely warm food. This restaurant used to be good at one times. The owners are now complacent and unwilling to listen to customers. read more

Everytime i goto Haluwa. I get Great food, Great service & Good Times. The new owner always make you feel welcome.

Tall pour drinks, you get your dollar worth from the bar and the pork fried rice is the best I've ever had in my life.

If you want convenience, eat here. If you want good food stay away.teriyaki beef was tough, pork fried rice over salted, beef mushroom chow York way too much pepper, other items super greasy. Tried the place several times, always bad. read more

I gave it one extra star because it's close by and they have good drinks, and my friend and I used to get the lunch specials when we were like 11 yo and order shirley temples lol. Basically my whole life this has been known as a big drug hangout. I think a lot of people here do coke and probably every other drug. (no I know that for a fact) Everyone seems to know each other. I saw one girl my mom used to babysit there and she was majorly tweeking out like some crack addict, she could not stand still for half a second wailing her arms all over the place while talking constantly shuffling her feet - it was heartbreaking Nikki. Clean up your life. So if you want to hang out with a bunch of alcoholics and score some drugs this is probably the place to go. PS I like how the bartender presses buttons on the cash register (which is from like 1965) and it says 000.00 for the sale, then hejust throws the money in so he doesn't have to pay taxes on it. lol. I could rip this place apart for hours..... read more
