We recently (as in yesterday) completed the remodel of two bathrooms in our Rancho Bernardo home. This is something we've needed to do since we bought the place three years ago and something I've dreaded, after a less than great experience remodeling the kitchen in this same house. (The kitchen was done with a different company. One we thought we'd also use for the bathrooms and then decided not to, based on how the kitchen remodel went.)
Let's face it, you hear horror stories of remodels all the time. Workers who never show up, workers who show up only when they want, shoddy work, lack of communication. Well none of this applies to Halpert Construction. They have been a joy to work with from Day One, right to the end of the projects.
Mark Halpert showed up at our project just about every day...often in the morning and in the afternoon. He listened to our views and concerns and was always on top of taking care of anything that came up. Nothing bad, just the normal progressions of a remodel job. He is easily reachable by texts and responds promptly when you contact him. He's pleasant, friendly, and highly approachable. I liked listening to him talk to his employees. He would have lots of praise for their excellent work, along with careful guidance of what needed to be done at each point in the remodel. It says a lot for him as "boss" that his workers have been with him for many, many years.
The people who came to do the work every day are also flat out amazing. They do careful and beautiful work, in addition to being great guys. If you're going to have your house filled with men all day, every day for a month or so, be glad that it's guys like Braulio and Raffe. (I'm sure I've butchered the spelling of their names but, close enough.) We could set our clocks by these men, as they showed up outside our house every single day at 7:30 am. They were polite and a joy to have around. Would you think it weird if I said I kind of miss them, now that they're gone????
One day, Braulio was doing an extra job we'd amended onto the project. Nothing huge, just getting way up high to hang a rather precarious chandelier. I felt bad that he was getting "stuck" with doing this job and told him so. He graciously told me it would be no problem and then went on to say, "I love my job. Every part of it". Here's the deal...based on the way he works with such integrity, I believe that about him. And I love having people in my home who clearly love what they are doing and want to put out an excellent product.
In addition to those two guys, we had cabinet people, glass people, and plumbers in and out of our project. Every single one of them upheld that same standard of on-time, polite, and highly skilled. It doesn't get any better than that!
We are enormously pleased with our bathrooms and would absolutely recommend Mark Halpert and his crew to anyone looking to do a remodel. Living with noise, chaos, and mess of construction is never fun but using Mark Halpert is about as painless as you're ever going to get for a remodel project. read more
