A new freeway spaning park designed to reconnect two parts of Oak Cliff. Before immenint domain took out neigborhoods in this area,Oak Cliff was one contiguous suburb of Dallas.
With plans in place for Interstate 35 to come through, houses and businesses were condemned and the highway built. The result was a separation of a city , geographically and economically.
In an attempt to generate economic
development and symbolically and literally reconnect the city, Halperin Park phase one has been completed. A cooperative effort between, government, city, philanthropic and business interest, Halperin Park shows foresight of a City continuing to Rise.
Design elements took into consideration environmental as well as structural needs. For example, Timber was extensively used in place of concrete, not only to lighten the load reducing steel use but, adding aesthetic qualities.
Multilevel decks and indoor activity areas are unusual park additions that will stimulate other varied community activities and gatherings
