As usual, my visit with my sister and niece the Saturday before Easter went well and lasted much longer than it should have because I always peruse every. single. aisle. (I might miss something if I don't-crafters, you know what I mean, right?!?) Anyway, our party headed up to the register, chatting away and laughing with one an other, having just a great time being present in the moment and looking forward to our upcoming holiday day with the family. Then, it happened: the cashier, who was clearly not having a good day, did nothing more than mumble my total when I checked out and then was downright nasty to my sister to the point that she asked her if she was ok as the girl scanned her purchases. The question seemed to exacerbate the bad mood, so we just walked away. She very obviously did NOT want to be there. Talk about a mood killer! I was so bothered by the interaction that I called the manager from the parking lot, who seemed pleasant on the surface but obviously just wanted me off the phone and seemed put out that he had to take a customer call. I told him what happened, explained that I'm sure she didn't really mean harm, but that he had a clearly upset employee in the most customer facing role in the store. I thought maybe if he knew, he'd want to do something else with her time while she was in such a bad state that day. I don't know what action he took, if any, but I did try to help. This was disappointing, but it won't stop me from going back into HL, which is one of my favorite places in the world. It definitely gave me pause and makes me wonder what she must have been going through that day to be in such a horrible mood. Also, I might check out the location in Georgetown, instead.

When we walked in we were asked if we needed help with anything, to which we said we were browsing. We were left alone the rest of the time there as we perused through the store and smelling the different scents that had available. When we went, they had a 50% off sale on large jar candles. Their candles are indeed overpriced at MSRP, but the sale they had was tempting. We ended up finding 4 different candle scents that we enjoyed and pulled the trigger. We paid about $73 for 4 candles. We also had a coupon that came in the mail that offered a free small candle if we signed up for their email newsletter, which I redeemed. I was given a brief overview of their rewards program, including a free candle I'll receive on my birthday! All in all, a friendly experience. If we ever need more candles in the future, we'll be on the lookout for their occasional sales for their $17 signature jars!

She was so friendly and helpful and we ended up chatting for a while. I bought a few shirts and the price range was $30-40 which is not bad for boutique prices. The shirts are now my favorite! The store itself was adorable and I wanted to buy everything haha but we are moving over seas so I'm trying not to buy more stuff that we will have to ship. I was not expecting this store to be so awesome. They have things from 60s 70s 80s 90s etc. They had Rockem-Sockem Robots! They had care bears, they had Dr. Seuss books, they had OG trolls (I got three of these!). They had pinball machines. They had slinky. They had the magic eight ball. They just had too many things for me to mention, and all of them were amazing! I wish I had known about this store last Christmas-- Good thing there's next Christmas :) Their prices are quite affordable. The little trolls were a 1.50. The Dr. Seuss book was $9.99. The care Bear was $13. They have so many wonderful product products and they are displayed beautifully. It's a fun place just to walk around and look! I highly recommend you visit. The service was really good by the way. The sales clerk allowed us to walk-through and didn't pester us. There is a wide variety of eclectic toys, games, knickknacks, etc. they have several tables where you can explore/play with some of the toys and items they have for sale. This makes it especially fun for kids to have a hands on approach- not like department stores where everything is packaged and shelved. I do believe some items are a bit pricey but that's to be expected from a stand alone toy store. We did purchase two 3-D printed toys. I was hoping to get some more exciting items, but my son has taken a liking to these 3D creatures. They were $17 each, higher than when I've paid most times, but also fairly acceptable in price. The employee working made some small talk, but she wasn't entirely personable. I feel that businesses geared mainly to our children should have employees with bright and bubbly personalities. I understand that's not always a possibility, but I do feel it makes the whole experience better for everybody. The only true con to our experience was that the story reeked of cat urine. They did have the doors open with a fan blowing out, so maybe they're aware and trying to get rid of it, I'm not sure. But it wasn't a pleasant smell at all. With all that being said, we will be back. I've made note of things we plan to buy in the future lol.
