I have been to this store in Guildford several times over the years and have purchased some beautiful cards. A week ago, after quite a bit of searching, my wife picked out two cards that were very nice which I purchased. (These are the kind that is wrapped in plastic and fairly expensive)
However, today she decided that one of the cards wasn't quite right for the occasion and tried to return it. Surprise, surprise, they don't take returns even if it is unopened as this was. The girl at the counter said that 'no refund exchange only' is printed on the receipt. That's a great help after you have purchased it. When we mentioned that, the girl said, "I'll call the manager".
The manager's excuse was that they have an old system that doesn't have return credit capability. To me it looks like the same system they had a few years ago. Does that mean that when it was new it couldn't do credit returns?
That is a sick excuse to avoid giving refunds since they will do exchanges.
Every store I have been to that has an 'all sales final policy' verbally notifies their customers of such. Every time I have made a purchase in this store I have dealt with a different clerk and NOT ONE OF THEM has informed me that all sales are final.
Today they pointed out that there are two small signs in front of the counter (but not in your line of sight when dealing with the clerk) that state sales are final. If you have been in this store you likely haven't noticed them as they sit among countless other printed items. No matter, they still refused to refund.
The manager suggested that my wife keep the card for a while until she could find something in the store that she liked better. How long might that be when the occasion she picked it for is close at hand? I will never shop at this store again and advise any who choose to; be sure that you really want to keep your purchase because once you pay for it, it's yours forever whether you want it or not! read more
