A really cute little store with lots of harder to find unique items. It's very small. Size of that of a master bed room. But in this tiny shop they manage to tuck in a lot of neat things. You wouldn't really notice it if you walked by (the window area isn't that bright so it's easy to miss if you walk by quick. But it's definitely worth checking out. I popped in here a month ago. And it was quite a nice store. Staff was also friendly but didn't greet you when you walked in. More like as you passed them on the way out. But. It's not a huge store. A walk around is 40 seconds. 2 mins if you're browsing the actual items. Expected visit length is 10 mins? read more

First and last time shopping at Hip Baby. What awful customer service.... It is evident that friendliness is not a part of their customer service model no matter how much you intend to spend. Moreover, their selection is minimal at best. read more

Yes, i am getting to the age of baby explosions. My main concern when shopping for any item is 1. knowing where it comes from or who made it 2. Is it organic and free to toxic chemicals and lists each ingredient. I walked into this store in desperation for something for my friends new baby and was helped immediately. The desperate non baby person was hand held and given many very, i have to say hip options. Beyond hip and into smart. I could have spent a small fortune in here, but i settled for some glittery mary jane socks at $22 (more expensive then my socks!), made by a women in China and an organic cloth rattler at $21 also made in China. The only thing that irks me is that this is all made in China, the foot print and sustainbility of these items are all wrong. I know very well these could be made in Canada very easily and probably for the same price, but probably at less of profit. That being said i still purchased them. I will go back here for more gifts in the future. read more

My favorite Vancouver baby store for overall selection of special *$$$* baby things compared to lussobaby, crocodile baby, dandelion kids, beansprouts and little earth children's store. Staff is always helpful, knowledgeable and never pressure you into purchasing items, as there is no spur of the moment purchasing like baby shopping. read more

This is my go-to place for finding great gifts for baby showers, birthdays and special occasions. Staff has always been friendly. They are always eager to help and answer any questions. Prices tend to be on par with specialty kids stores in the area, which is on the high side, but there's so much to choose from that there's bound to be something within your price range. They generally have sale items in the back. I've never felt pressured by the staff to buy things. Sometimes, I feel like shopping at the smaller stores on 4th is a lot like having annoying vultures chasing me down at the door to pressure me into buying something, but that's not the case here. read more

If I could give this store a zero I would. I have been in the store 3 times, and each time I was not greeted by the staff. The last time me and my wife were in the store, the store was completely empty, and there were 3 staff working. Not one of them greeted us or asked us if we needed any help. My wife is seven months pregnant, and we were in need of many items for our nursery and for our baby. After a good 10 minutes we decided to leave, as we felt unwelcome. Upset by this, I decided to follow up with the manager. I called the store and left my name and number so the manager could call me back so I could leave this feedback. It has been two weeks now and there has been no call back from the manager. Obviously my family and I will never be back into the store. It is a shame that the stuck up and uncaring staff and manager have ruined what could be a great store. read more

Hip Baby has been the purveyor of all things, well, hip, for baby and mum for the past 10 years, well before west side breeders went bonkers. Their in-house line of basics (cloth diapers, hooded towels and fitted crib sheets, plus T-shirts, hats and bibs for newborns) are designed and manufactured in Toronto. Adjust-2-fit diapers are top sellers, too, at $10.95 each. read more

We don't have kids, but find this a great little shop for gifts for friend and family who do have kids. The staff are all very friendly and obviously really 'into' kids. Very good at making suggestions as I know nothing about what a kid might want. My one complaint, a common one for shops in the area, is the need to have the door propped open no matter the temperature. Today was a very cold(for Vancouver) day and the door was open with the heat blasting. I'm perfectly capable of opening a door myself, this is such a waste and sends a message that the business doesn't care about it's staff or the environment. read more

I have had several poor experiences at this store. The staff are at best not knowledgeable or at worst pushing to sell you items that are not fit for your use case or any given specific purpose. Having toured most of the baby stores in Vancouver several times I've observed the prices at Hip Baby are 10-20% higher than elsewhere. Heaven forbid you attempt to return an item they mis-sold you. After selling us diapers that were too small (and insisting they were the right size) they refused to let us return them and offered us alternative ways of using them instead (as burp cloths!?!?!). Avoid. read more

Super helpful when trying to figure out what first pair of shoes to buy for our daughter, would definitely shop here again!

Great vibe walking in as we were greeted. The woman at the counter was friendly and knowledgable about the items sold here. No pretense. Bought some toys on sale and I plan on coming back to check out some of their other thing when I have more time. read more

The sales lady was VERY helpful and VERY patient. She seemed to be as interested in finding the right accessories as I was! They had items I didn't expect to find including bow ties for my toddlers and lots of adorable shoes and beautiful wooden toys. read more

Super friendly staff and a really nice collection of stuff! Great place to go for a gift...on my last visit, I went in looking for a gift for a friend's new baby and just had to buy the sweetest wool slippers for my daughter. Dangerous place on the ol' mom wallet. read more

Awesome arrangement of stuff. I came here to get some ideas as gifts for my good friend who will be having a baby in a few months. Some things are expensive, however, man are they cute. The lady at the til was super sweet and helpful. read more

Hip Baby has recently re-opened under new ownership. The great news for me and other mom's who use cloth diapers, is that they have extended their cloth diaper selection. Since KG Kids went out of business it has been hard to find retail stores that carry good cloth diapers. I was back a few weeks ago and they also now carry Mother-ease diapers. Blog has more info.... http://cdmomramblings.blogspot.com/2009/03/hip-baby.html read more

This store has great items for babies, and things you don't see at large chain stores. The staff are very helpful and they wrapped my gift very nicely. I would definitely recommend checking it out for toys, gifts, unique clothing, cloth diapers, etc. read more

Excellent customer service. Even after we said that our friends were buying us the product elsewhere we still received exceptional information and help. We'll definitely shop here again. read more

I love this store. The product range is always on point and if I go looking for that one special item I usually find it or something even better. I think the prices are reasonable or at least comparable. The one improvement I would like to see is a mirror for the little ones to have look at themselves when trying things on. I asked for one for my son when he had his potential new raincoat on and then practically right afterwards a father asked for one for his daughter to see the boots she was trying. Also it would be nice to have a little stool for them to sit on when trying shoes. The service is fine. It could be better. I only say this from the point of view of someone who has worked in retail and customer service for some years. I'm a fan of low pressure sales but I wasn't convinced they really wanted to be there never mind find a price or size for me. I think the sales staff cover the basics but don't really go the extra that would be nice in such a super fun environment as this store. Working with kids I think they could have alot more energy. There is just something missing. read more

This is my one/two shop for getting my friends some baby and kid stuff when a gift is involved. This seems to be happening a lot to me lately (bit of an epidemic) and I'm grateful the staff knows exactly what I need when I need it. I agree with some on here that it is a bit spendy, but you know the saying: "You get what you pay for." read more

Had to get a present for a friends baby. A little over priced as most kids stores are but had more than enough of a selection to choose from. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they did a great job wrapping the gifts as well. read more

Fantastic little store in Kits. Staff is unbelievably helpful and friendly. The store is very well stocked with quality merchandise. The free wrapping is a great feature. Hip Baby is a Kits gem and neighborhood stores like this should be supported. read more

I love Hip Baby. When my baby was little I got everything I needed there. Now when I'm stuck for gifts I always find something with the help of their awesome staff. I was just there yesterday and picked up a few stocking stuffers and I'll probably be back again before Christmas! read more

There sure is a lot of stuff to buy for babies. These folks know what all that stuff is. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly without being annoying. The products are a bit spendy, but the store is exactly what it aims to be. I respect that. read more

Hip Baby is my go-to for baby shower and birthday gifts! They have a great selection of beautiful toys, books and clothing. I highly recommend Hip Baby both in-store and on-line. read more

This store has a decent selection, and the staff have always been helpful, but I do have an issue with the return policy. A 30 day return policy is not right, I received two of the same gifts at my baby shower, and with all the craziness leading up to the arrival of my little one did not get in to return one of them with in the 30 days (the gift receipt did not say anything about the 30 day return policy either). With as many gifts that I'm sure are bought in this store everyday, they really should consider altering this policy. read more

With all the high end places popping up in this city, it's great to find a store that offers great quality products without the attitude. I also like the "mom and pop" feel to the place. It's personal and warm and didn't have the commercialized fee that's so annoying at some other stores. read more

I admit it, I cringed at the name of this store (do babies really need to be hip??), but truth be told, when I was searching out baby gifts for a friend's new little one, I was glad to have come into this store. They really do have a nice selection of all things baby. Some of what they carry tends to be a bit high end, as in more high end than an infant needs (designer receiving cloths anyone?), but there are some items here that seem really worthwhile. You will find a tasteful choice of baby clothes, including the standard selection of organic cottons, alongside all kinds of baby supplies such as diaper bags, bottles, soothers and, of course, some truly adorable toys. So, this might not be the place to come to stock up on all of your baby supplies and accessories, but for a baby shower or gift for someone special, this is a lovely place to check out. They also carry cloth diapers and have plenty of information about cloth diapering and other green baby services. read more
