Please for your own sake do not use Haller Enterprises for a geothermal installation. We removed a perfectly good conventional HVAC unit and converted to geothermal because we wanted to utilize a greener form of energy while being a bit kinder to Mother Earth. We had 3 estimates from various companies around the Palmyra area, Haller being one of the companies. They were not the lowest estimate; however, they provided a great sales pitch and they reside in our hometown and it's always nice to use local when available. Geothermal, according to the sales person (C.T.) would reduce my electric bill, cool and dehumidify my home more efficiently than a conventional a/c propane furnace (my unit from 2006 that would be removed). The first bill of the winter season was dramatically higher than my conventional unit. Called Haller and begged them to come since the unit was not operating correctly, they would not send a tech out ASAP and said it could be an appliance going bad or anything but it was Not the geo unit. My husband and I played Macqyver in the 20 degree weather with me holding a flash light looking at our electric meter and my husband turning off appliances..when he turned off the geo until the meter slowed considerably. Haller finally sent a tech and the problem? They never set the unit up correctly and the geo unit was coming on simultaneously wih my auxillary heat (electric), know what that means, it means I was heating my home with electric heat. The cost, a lot. They reset the system correctly so the auxillary heat only comes one when absolutely necessary. My electric bill went down but not to the point they said we would be at when we installed the system. Haller had so many people come through my home, engineers, geo gurus, branch managers etc. trying to figure out the problem. The incoming water temp from the earth was not as warm as the sales guy said it would be (say your incoming geo water temp is 52 degrees, you heat up from 52 degrees to say 72 degrees when heating your home in the winter and since you are not heating from 32 degrees to 72 degrees there lies the savings). They were not sure why the incoming geo temp was dramatically lower than what it would normally be. The decided to revamp my system entirely since I was not getting the savings I was promised. It was a Big revamp and yes it took some time to complete. My incoming geo water lines then began to condensate and leak in my basement (little puddles of water). There are a lot of water lines running in my partially exposed basement and when Haller installed the system (2 zone) they knew our intent to finish the space (over 1000 sq). Haller came back out after dripping problem and rewrapped the pipes indicating they did a sloppy job from the start and that would stop the dripping. We were in the process of wrapping up the basement reno and putting in a drop celing and what happens, water, a lot of water in the drop ceiling. What do they do, they say we did a sloppy job and did not wrap the returns a lines in the drop ceiling and we will come out and do that and that will stop the condensation between the drop ceiling and first floor. These repairs take days, days of a Haller crew being at our home again, telling us a different story and never repairing the problem. We had water in coming out of the drop ceiling last June, this July we have the same problem at the same place. Haller assured me they fixed the drop ceiling water problemt last June with wrapping of the returns where metal comes in contact with the air etc. Today I was told by the Haller branch manager and a service tech that I need a whole house dehumidifyer for my home at my cost. I asked about this last June and was told my house was perfectly balanced and that was not necessary because I was not leaking cold air in the returns since they wrapped them. Until now nothing they have told me has been correct. They are tenacious and ineffective at the same time. Not only are they ineffective at fixing a problem they have created they are now causing damage to my home with the drop ceiling panels damaged and the potential for mold to form due to the condensation. Before you choose Haller, ask them to explain the Condran geothermal job. I guess it is possible that we should not expect to get what we paid for. read more
