Termite fumigation review of Hall Bros We contacted Hall Brothers after we found dry wood termites and beetles in several areas in our home exterior and interior. Their Yelp reviews were all positive, and we felt like we could trust this company to complete the job with the highest standards. Unfortunately, our hopes and trust in Hall Bros. were broken on many levels throughout the process. Their communication and follow-through with us was problematic. I live in a 4-unit condo in Sausalito, 3 of the units are owner-occupied and 1 unit is rented, but was vacant weeks prior to fumigation. It took several months to find a time that was suitable for everyone. When we settled on dates that worked for us, we scheduled an "orientation" meeting with James Hall a few weeks before fumigation would begin. James Hall is primarily a middle-man who manages the contract between you and the fumigation company, Best Care. During this meeting, James discussed how to prepare the inside and outside of your home prior to fumigation and he described the tenting process. We were told the tent would cover our front decks and the fence we shared with our neighbors, and we were asked to get our neighbors to prepare their soil for the tenting and sign off on the contract. He also discussed leaving our house keys in a safe place that we communicated with Best Care so they could enter the house. He asked that we pay for the fumigation in full at the meeting, and I was naïve enough to believe we had nothing to worry about so our check was cashed by Hall Bros. weeks before the fumigation process began. During fumigation, I stopped by the house on Saturday to see how things were going. I found the fence we shared with our neighbors wasn't covered, and 2 of our units front decks weren't covered. When I called James early Saturday morning to express my concern about why the tenting was done this way, he said, "That's the way Best Care decided to do it. They didn't see any signs of termites on those parts of the property so they didn't cover it. You are the only one who is upset." Of course, all the other owners were out of town during the process. I was surprised to hear that my entire unit wasn't tented because no termites were seen. One of the units in the complex was fully tented, although his entire front deck was rebuilt months earlier. Another issue I brought up was that several exterior plants that we told wouldn't be tented were under the tent. James had no explanation for this. I asked James to come to the house to take a look at the property with me, but he said he wouldn't be available until Monday, the day the tents were coming down. When the tents came down on Monday, we received an email from Best Care saying our house keys were left under our front door mat. When I called Best Care to see if the keys could be left where they found them, they said they were no longer in the area. When I asked my neighbor to collect the keys from my front door, she told me they weren't there. I called Best Care, and after they looked further into the matter, they told me all the keys were left in the vacant rental unit. My neighbor also explained she wasn't sure how effective the treatment was because the tent wasn't secure with flaps often seen billowing in the wind. Granted, it has been an exceptionally windy time of year in Sausalito, but this information doesn't sit well with me. At this point, our fumigation is complete, Hall Bros. has been paid in full. We all spent a lot of time, effort, and money prepping and getting our building fumigated. Although my neighbors may not be as expressive as I am, I'm not alone in my opinion that Hall Bros. didn't do their part in addressing my concerns and managing this process. Please take this review in consideration before preparing to hire this company to manage your fumigation process. read more

Not impressed. They claim to not have time to give inspections, yet in the same canned email they invite you to circle back for a free estimate. Which is it? No inspections yet they somehow can provide estimates based on what? If you ask follow up questions to clarify in email they resend you the same canned email response. My opinion is strictly based on customer service. They could very well be really good at removing termites but their customer service is lagging. If they don't want new customers this lack of interest and communication is a great strategy to achieve that. read more

I initially called Terminix because I had found a couple flying termites in my home. They inspected my home for almost 2 hours and told me I had termites which would cost $1000 to treat, and wood-boring beetles which would require me to tent my home and would cost $4000. When I got the inspection report it did not say I had termites or show anywhere that he had found termites or termite damage, but it still included a $1000 charge for termite control! I decided to shop around and called James Hall, and I'm so glad I did! * He assured me I did not have termites * He explained that flying termites can swarm at that time of year * He showed me exactly where the beetles were and how he knew they were active * He had a fumigation company come out and actually measure rather than just throwing out an arbitrary number * He quoted me $3000 total * He is the loveliest, nicest man * He explained that I needn't be in a huge rush So, once I could afford it, I scheduled the fumigation. He came to my house and went through everything I needed to do (which is a lot!) and even offered to loan me his sawzal. He kept me in the loop with all the details. When there were some mis-steps with the fumigation company, he handled them promptly and well. It's always a slightly stressful situation when you need to Google pest control, but I'm glad we're working with James and Hall Bros. We started seeing carpenter ants in our house, which was a totally new pest that we've never dealt with before. We put out carpenter ant bait on our own, but weren't able to see a difference and knew we weren't doing it right. With his first visit, James talked us through carpenter ants and how he would treat the problem. They are a tricky pest because we can't see a specific spot that they're coming from, so it's a bit of a guessing game. This is the only termite company I trust! When we bought our house five years ago, it had both ground termites (I forgot their name) and dry wood termites as well as carpenter ants. Another large brand company told us the only option was to tent the house to the tune of $5K plus all of the surrounding landscaping dying. Hall Brothers came in and took care of both types of termites without tenting saving us over $10K if you take the cost of the plants we would have needed to replace and renting an AirBnB. Five years later everything is still great - we even did a major roof project recently which proved their treatment did the trick. I began using Hall Bros when I first purchased my house in 1989. Back then, the company was owned by the Steve Hall. Steve is now retired and Hall Bros. is now run by James Hall, his son. James Hall continues to maintain the highly ethical and quality service that Hall Bros. is known for. About every 5 years or so, I ask Hall Bros. to come out to inspect the underside of my house for termites and also for moisture problems. I've had them replace rotted posts under the house, spray for mold and they also installed a moisture barrier for me, several years ago. Most recently, James Hall came out to do an inspection for me. He identified a couple of plumbing leaks, replaced a 2-3 of rotted posts and he dug out the sump holes for a couple of old sump pumps and got them up and running again. James and his brother-in-law (a licensed general contractor) were also able to replace some rotted support beams in the front of my house plus some rotted siding. James is one of the most honest and professional people I've ever dealt with and I truly can not say enough good things about him.
