Awhile ago I found a great DKNY dress secondhand but like new for a dirt-cheap price…read more Unfortunately, despite the size on the label, it was a little big and needed alterations. I should have taken it back to the last tailor I went to instead of trying a new one. But I wanted to give somewhere else a shot. Clearly this was not the place to do it. Although it's listed only as a dry cleaning business on here, they also advertise their seamstress services in the shop. I needed a jacket cleaned anyway and brought in the dress to be taken in. They did a fine job on the jacket and it wasn't terrible expensive. You could probably do worse than the dry cleaning services here. I just wouldn't advise getting anything altered. First off, the woman wasn't very helpful. I told her what I wanted and first she told me it couldn't be done. When I suggested an alternative plan, she was more amenable to it. I'm struggling with whether or not to mention this, but I think part of the issue was the language barrier as her English was not very good. Am I a jerk for that? I hope not. I also had them add on a snap to the top to make it a little less low-cut. Now, I realize that's something I could have easily done myself but I figured that I might as well have them do it since they were already working on it. The taking-in part wasn't terrible. However, it's a dress with a detached lining in the skirt part and the liner now hangs down at least an inch past the rest of the dress. Now I have that permanent "my slip is hanging out" look. Classy. Or not. The other thing I took issue with was the snap. I could have done a much, much better job. It's barely sewn on! It's really loosely sewn and seems like it will fall off at any minute. What's worse is that there's now a small hole in the dress that I'm nearly positive wasn't there before. Really? I know I only paid $20 for alterations, but I at least expect the snap to be sewn on tightly. What a disappointment. Back to Erica's on Albany-Shaker next time. Addendum: The more I look at it, the more appalled I am at the poor tailoring job. The inner liner hangs down about three inches. It looks horrible. The dress is probably unwearable.

Why did the cleaners not put a tag or ticket on the trousers to indicate that a rip was found on the clothing? We dropped off an expensive shirt to be dry cleaned. It was purchased from Italy for $180 less than a month ago and worn to a wedding on August 1. It's also very distinctive, with light blue buttons and patterned detailing inside the cuffs and along the front button placket. When we picked up our dry cleaning, Forest Cleaners GAVE US SOMEONE ELSE'S SHIRT. Mistakes happen. I understand that. What I cannot accept is how the owners handled the situation once I brought it to their attention. I was told they now need a WEEK to "track down" our shirt because the actual cleaning is handled by a third party. That was news to me and, frankly, raises another concern. I thought I was trusting Forest Cleaners with our clothing. I had no idea our garments were being sent elsewhere for cleaning. The owner explained that the wrong ticket had apparently been placed on our garments and mentioned that they process more than 100 shirts a week. I'm sorry, but that is not the customer's problem. Your volume does not excuse giving one customer's clothing to another customer. What upset me most was the response from the male owner. I was speaking calmly with his wife, who was also speaking calmly with me. When I explained that if they could not locate the shirt, I expected to be reimbursed for it, he became combative and began yelling at me. I had to ask him to change his tone and stop speaking to me that way. Think about this from the customer's perspective. You require payment upfront. We paid you to professionally care for our clothing. You then gave our $180 shirt to someone else, told us we need to wait a week while you try to locate it, and then yelled at me when I said I expected reimbursement if it cannot be found. I have the original receipt for the shirt. This isn't an exaggerated value or something we purchased years ago. We bought it last month. This happened Saturday, August 22. I was told they would contact me within a week, so I will update this review with how Forest Cleaners ultimately resolves the situation. Regardless of whether the shirt is recovered, the way this was handled has already lost our business. A mistake is one thing. How you treat a customer after your business makes that mistake tells me far more. I expected accountability, concern, and an effort to make the situation right. I did not expect to be yelled at for asking a business to take responsibility for an expensive garment entrusted to its care. We will not be returning.
