Well, it's been a few years since we have eaten here and I won't be in a hurry to return. Maybe it's an isolated event. I really enjoy charbroiled oysters. And perhaps I am spoiled because I visit Acme Oysters frequently. The fried crab claws were also just ok. The grouper Pontchartrain fish with softshell crab topper was also just ok. Had an amazing Father's Day experience here today! The wait time was short, only about 15 minutes. We drove over because of the long wait at the Original Oyster House and aim so glad we did. The waitress Amy did a phenomenal job waiting on us. Best service I have has in years. She brought everything in a timely fashion and with a nice warm smile. The sweet tea wasn't that great and she went back to the kitchen and made us a fresh batch that was sweet and delicious! She also gave us some great recommendations. My party of 5 loved our food. Everything was beyond. Absolutely amazing service, the food was to die for, and they made our evening special without us even asking! We mentioned we were in town and taking ourselves out for a nice night and they went above and beyond to make our date night extra! Southern food at its finest! We loved the food at Half Shell so much that we ate here as many times as we could while in town. Everything we ate was absolutely heavenly, especially their pastas, fried green tomatoes and crab cakes, steaks, and desserts!! The prices are very reasonable too and the staff provided great service on every visit. We never had to wait long to be seated and our food came out fast and piping hot ever single time. First time at this location in years. Ordered a relatively new dish called Catfish Lameuse. It was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Service was good and we have an awesome waitress. I do plan on returning and trying other items. It's worth a shot especially if you're looking for an alternative to deep fried seafood. read more

Well, I'd like to go higher but afraid it might take another trip or two. We had a Sunday "lunch" and were not that impressed at all. I say lunch but they only have one menu it appears. Service was fine and no wait for seating. We did not get any oyster dishes or apps this trip. I got the seafood platter with the Mahi grilled. We also had the pecan crusted redfish. A 3 is as high as we can go with some items in the 2.5 range sad to say. My Mahi was tough and the side of greens had no flavor at all. The two salads we got were good. We have eaten at this place in Biloxi and Gulfport with much better luck a while back. We will try again and get some oysters next time in. For now an a-ok but needs to be better for over $100 for lunch. read more

I often bring out out-of-town guests to Half Shell in Spanish Fort. It's one of the best restaurants near us. It did not disappoint as my friend treated me to dinner last week. We each had a salad and split the lobster tail entree between us. And she let me taste her blueberry cheesecake. It was so smooth and creamy sweet! Perfect! She is a cocktail connoisseur and loved the pecan whiskey in the Old-Fashioned. In fact, she tracked down pecan whiskey when she arrived home because she was so impressed with Half Shell's combination! I had lunch here after Worship Service today and the food was delicious. The Chef knocked it out of the park. This is one of my favorite dining places as the atmosphere is always on point for any group or solo. Each dish was perfect. Zack's service is always superb. Awesome customer service. ( I have come here often and could always sit in a vacant table near the bar when there are empty tables; Today was the second time I was told I could sit at the bar, even though there were empty tables in the area (2); the hostess looked at the vacant tables and said the bar was available and I could sit at the bar. The last time it was 2 of us and was told couldn't sit at one of the empty tables. I didn't make an issue of it but think that is odd and didn't understand reasoning. I have been to this location several times. Ordering the same things every time. Oyster Rockefeller and gumbo. This visit was horrible. The spinach was thick, no cheese was present and the oysters were over done. Meanwhile, the sever made me feel as if I did not know, how they are served. I explain that i have had these many times before. The server asked if I wanted anything else. I Lindy declined. I really wanted those Rockefellers. Meanwhile, a few of the the kitchen staff to came out to the bar to see me. I did not understand what was going on. The manger came out, very nice and explained that the sauce was being made fresh and agreed to prepare more. Unfortunately, they dropped the ball again. Very disappointing. Today my husband and I went in for our anniversary. When we walked In there was no one at the hostess area to greet us. My husband made contact with a male server, waved we were going to the bar and he gave a thumbs up. After about 15 minutes the server came behind the bar to get a couple of glasses of red wine, but never greeted us or even said "we will be right with you". He was serving the customers that came in after us. The female server or hostess came behind the bar, looked at us and went to talk to the male server. At this point 15-20 minutes and NO ONE acknowledged us. So we walked out. My husband overheard the female asking the male "did you greet them?" We ended up going across the way to California Dreaming. We have been coming here for over a year for our special occasions, love the ambiance and food, but today was disappointing. read more

This overpriced chain is not good. We ordered the oyster sampler ( all cooked). They were all way oversaltrd and greasy, and far too overcooked. My mom makes better oysters rockerfeller. You can actually taste the Pernod in hers. Our server was kind but overwhelmed. We watched our oysters sit under the heating lamp for at least 10 minutes. Finally, a different server or manager saw us looking longingly at our oysters. It was getting to the point where I was about to get the oysters myself. The bread on the oyster Po' Boy was dry, flavorless, and inedible. We asked for tartar sauce to try to help this dish, but they use some food service tartar sauce that was gross. What a face lift this place has had! We walked up and a young lady opened the doors for my wife and I. A warm greeting by Izzy as she led us to our table. Salem our server was so wonderful. Our meal started with hot shrimp and crab dip with some beverages. The bread was so fresh and the dip jam packed with fresh seafood. Our salads were crisp and delicious. The Caesar salad was a hit. My wife had the snapper as gratin. I was hungry and had the crab bisque and oyster sampler. Absolutely fantastic! We sat, listened to jazz music, watched the oyster chefs, ate, drank and laughed. Two words! EXC ELLANT! Oh man!!! MY blackened redfish meal was SCRUMPTIOUS!!!! The garlic, Parmesan cheese, butter, Cajun potatoes are too too good! The potatoes are boiled, then fried, then drenched in a butter sauce that is so tasty it knocks your culinary socks off! I put that sauce on everything on my plate it was sooo good! The redfish was very well seasoned, no additional salt or pepper was needed. Honestly, this food was my best I've had so far during my road trip tour of southern states from Houston, TX to Destin, Florida. It truly is the best!!!! Everything was just great and friendly. We got our food fast and there were no problems with anything. I loved their service that they gave us. I do not live in Mobile, and I made all the arrangements over the phone from Texas, and I was very pleased how it came out.
