This is a what a 5* place looks like! On account of how hot Biloxi is right now Our tried and true place wasn't going to cut it. So I looked up seafood restaurants not outside . This one had good reviews and so We tried it. Honestly I wished I would have came here for my birthday which was the day before! It blows The Den out of the water at Treasure Bay! The vibe is classier, the service was impeccable, and the food was 10x better. We started with some drinks: A Apple caramel martini for my son, a pink pearl martini for me, and a pineapple colada for my hubbie. They were are nice drinks. Next for apps hubbie got an oyster sampler which included oyster Rockefeller, Florentine, and Bienville oysters . He also got a dozen raw . I got fried green tomatoes with crab cakes between them. I enjoyed the tomatoes. The crab cakes were too wet for my liking but it's a personal preference only. The taste was good. For entrees I got a seafood sampler which included fried oysters, hush puppies, fried shrimp, and I think catfish. It was exactly what I was hankering for. We got some boudin balls. They were ok . My son got the brunch burger with an egg! For dessert a cinnamon roll bread pudding for my son and a banana foster cheesecake for my husband and I to share. We went up the stairs there is a bathroom up there. Be careful going down if you have had a few drinks lol. Everyone was friendly. We are so glad We found this place off the main strip . Honestly the prices are comparable to anywhere else . If you are looking for a place quiet or even somewhere special to celebrate a birthday or even an anniversary . This place would be a good choice. I suggest going as soon as they open or early evening. After 5 I bet the place would be getting packed. By the way upstairs it feels like you are in Nola . When i visit Biloxi, one of my stops is the Half Shell Oyster House. I like the food and I like the ambiance. The service is really nice as well. Last night I ordered a dozen Oysters from the Sampler tray. I shared these with one other person and I akso had a salad to complete my meal. Everything tasted great. Patrick, our server took great care of us. He was knowledgeable of the menu and provided excellent advice. Traveler: Okay quaint mid-size seafood oyster coastal house! Just what is expected. Whole area gives off the New Orleans vibe which I loved. The staff were amazing! Two young ladies (sorry 4got names) but they were phenomenal! Food was very tasty. I ordered a few things to taste. For starters the Oysters were outstanding! We had the New Orleans style half with Parmesan. We ordered the choose two and I chose crab cakes and fried crawfish that came with a boudin ball and cheesy grits. Grits were creamy. I came here twice and I have to say I'd recommend their charbroiled oysters because I still think about it to this day and how we should've went a third time just to get that. I do think some other things on their menu is just okay like the french quarter dip (the dip was in such a tiny cup with little amounts so it was underwhelming) and the fried shrimp (it just reminded me of popeyes shrimp). But I did enjoy the seafood stuffed portabellas and the caesar salad. The service was great. The first time we went I told the server he reminds me of the guys who plays Shaggy is Scooby doo the movie mixed with Ryan Gosling. Talk about some amazing food in Biloxi!! For my short stay in the area, I wanted a fantastic meal. This place was suggested and I can see why! There is downstairs and upstairs seating area (Full bar on both floors as well). We were warmly greeted and seated right away. Our waitress Kelly was very friendly and had some great suggestions for dinner. Immediately, we ordered the fried green tomatoes. We also had the Redfish Orleans and the most ordered side was the sweet potato creme brulee. The fried green tomatoes had a creamy crab sauce over the top which paired perfectly with the crispy breading. Royal redfish was pretty good, definitely a solid choice. I also tried the shrimp and crawfish etouffee special but it was just alright--wouldn't order that one again. We sat at the tables by the bar and the service was a bit less attentive than I was hoping for... but overall an ok experience. We visit here once or twice while we're in town...oysters are delicious and shucked fresh daily! Everything we've tried has been so good...this trip I had the crab cake topped with blue crab herbed cream sauce from the appetizer menu and my husband had raw oysters...so yummy! It's French Quarter style...dark and sultry decor with cool, funky lighting. They have additional seating and a second bar upstairs. It's an old building and the stairs are very precarious, so just keep that in mind if that would be an issue. The service is always on point...we sat at the bar this trip. Great experience. The restaurant has two levels, both light and airy. We got a large round table; so glad they have this option, it's always better than one long table. The server, Gilliian, and the manager checked with me multiple times to make sure my experience was rock in, and it was. This place you must visit if you like good seafood and want a magical experience. The historical building has been re-furbished into a killer seafood restaurant experience. The food and staff are mindful of every need, and the food coming out of the kitchen is amazing. I have celiac disease, and managers us the staff made sure I had an allergic reaction free dining experience, plus the food and service were incredible! Two times in 4 days I had the exact 5 star experience. Gillian as my server, I forgot the managers name, but they made the rounds frequently to the guests to make sure we had a stellar experience. Doing our food and drink crawl around Biloxi this is a must stop. It was really busy but we got a high top at the bar pretty quick. Bartender was our server and right on us and very helpful. Drinks were awesome and a decent wine selection. We tried a few along with some charbroiled oysters. These were awesome and we are not oysters people. The restaurant is located in a charming old house with two floors, which gives it a lot of character and a cozy vibe. A quick tip for those who may have trouble with stairs--there are 30+ steps to reach the upstairs dining area. They don't take reservations, but if you call ahead and request the preferred waitlist, the staff is incredibly accommodating and will help ensure you're seated downstairs. I really appreciated how smoothly that process went. Now to the food and service--both were top notch! Let me start by shouting out Nick, our young waiter who absolutely crushed it! He was attentive, friendly, fast, and genuinely helpful with menu suggestions. His recommendation to add the Royal Sauce to my blackened trout (served over mashed potatoes and asparagus) was spot on. That sauce took an already great dish to the next level--don't skip it! We started with the fried blue crab claws appetizer. They were decent but a bit too heavily breaded for my taste--not bad, just not a standout. That and the stair situation were the only minor downsides of an otherwise great visit. The garden side salad was very fresh and crisp--a great starter. The gumbo had a nice kick to it, just the right amount of spice and seasoned beautifully. Definitely recommend if you like a bit of heat. Other dishes ordered at the table included: Seafood Sampler - All fried, all delicious, and way more food than one person can finish. Stocked with seafood and the crust was to die for. Creamy and the seafood taste was over the top. The wife had their special which was a filet mignon topped with lobster mornay sauce. Fabulous. The lobster was tender and the steak was perfectly cooked. The sides of broccoli and asparagus with Gorgonzola cheese. OMG. So excellent. This place is a must go when visiting Biloxi. We joined the wait list on Yelp and glad we did. It was a Wednesday night and still a line. While we had a short wait, we walked around to see the other offerings around. When seated, it was a busy place with good service. When food was ready it came to the table. Our waitress let me try the greens prior to ordering! Oysters were fresh. I did miss the minuete but there was lemon, horseradish and cocktail sauce. Fried claws were okay and they came with lemon and cocktail sauce. Husband had the salmon which he really liked. We shared a Caesar salad which was okay needed salt and pepper. The drinks were good. It is a rather large place as there was an upstairs. Our service was good and I'm not much of an oyster person, but I was pleased with my chicken garlic fettuccine. I was really craving some pasta and it really hit the spot. It was creamy and the pasta wasn't over cooked. They also give a nice portion of chicken on the pasta. For my side I tried the asparagus that was topped with blue cheese and it was quite tasty. We have eaten here in many occasions and always have had a great experience. Good service and great food until tonight! We arrived around 5:40PM and joined the waitlist. There were a number of tables downstairs and we prefer those. We were a party of five. Hostess said they were waiting for a table to clear and we said OK even though there was plenty of room to combine a four top and a two top. After waiting 40 minutes, the waiters began putting tables together for two large parties downstairs and still no table for us. It became obvious that those tables had been reserved even though Half Shell has a no reservation policy! We finally took a table upstairs and the service snd food were outstanding as usual. Upon leaving I informed the manager on duty that we nor anyone we know will return until they institute a reservation policy. The manager admitted that those tables were reserved on orders from higher up! Again, I'll be sure to tell all of our friends about this situation. read more
