Busy on a Saturday night. Aisles were semi-packed with people, trying to find their next list of books to read or a quick fix of a book. All fairly priced. I've been here only twice to sell books and DVDs, the people at the store are very rude and picky, as if they were buying diamonds. They said I needed to wait for an hour and be in the store available, it is not worth the time, I took around 30 books,30+ DVDs and someCDs and they offered 7 dollars! A charming multi-story bookstore located in downtown Redmond. It offers a diverse selection of used and new books, along with friendly staff. You can sell your old books to them, but the process is slow, and the compensation is minimal. The staff here are incredibly rude, and the store is a mess. I was browsing today (you know, normal book store behavior) and a female staff member with bright red hair very rudely asked me what I was looking for (books obviously). Books are shelved in the wrong sections, nothing is labelled, and there are boxes stacked everywhere. Nothing here is actually half price, which is ironic considering they buy books for about fifty cents each. Barnes and Noble has much better customer service, and value for the money. read more

Cheats! If I could give no star I would. Lady at the selling counter played with words , shocked us and offered us for the 20 or so books ( a couple of which were bought at this every location at a much higher price) we bought to the store " $1 for every book.. " and when we got to the cash register we were given just a $1. We went back for clarification and found them smirking and flipping through one of our books and said we mis heard and that she said "$1 for everything !! ". Unbelievable!! And our experience does not end there. While backing out of their parking and random dude walks up to us and said we hit his car while backing ... We are Never ever going back to that store again and would warn all too!! Folks there are just waiting to rip you off.. donate it to charity instead.. you will feel better .. read more

A happy little store with so many treasures inside. Half Price Books in my opinion is worth the hype. There is every book genre that you can imagine, So many well-organized shelves you can examine! When you walk to your left you see a large aisle It has records on records you could search for a while. We found a really good Frank Sinatra And even great hits on record from Abba! They have a whole upstairs as well that you can explore With book stacks of all topics you can implore. Self-help, cooking, adventure, & a darling kids nook You can even grab your little one to read them a book! Board games and stationery are also carried. Got caught up in options from all the reading I tarried! I loved it so much, I brought my husband the next day He liked the options & prices, what more could he say! The front sales clerk was in a very cheery mood, So our purchase of books was from a very cool dude. This is the nicest and largest Half Price Books I've ever visited! They have a large selection of puzzles that caught my eye. I purchased several gift cards for Christmas from this location and found the staff to be super friendly. The store itself is quite large and has two levels, the building itself is pretty cool. They have a small parking lot and side street parking. read more

This was one of the best Half Price Bookstores that I've ever been to! The Young Adult was stocked fully with books, both new and old. I found a signed copy of one of my favorite authors for only $10.99 when it would be around 40 in a prominent store. I will definitely want to come back to see what else I can find. read more

Emmy award-winning Over Washington films, and some highly rated and well reviewed PC games including one with Bridge card game rules instruction and playing. The bookstore itself is neat and organized with a wide range of books and gifts. My complaint is with the their used book buying process. If you're looking to make money on your used books, you'll do better selling them at a yard sale. Half Price Books literally offers pennies for books they'll try to then sell for 1/2 or more the jacket price. The process was not respectful or fair. read more

My husband died and subsequently I had to downsize and move. He had an extensive hardback book collection consisting of political biographies and the classics. They had been purchased new, had their original jackets and in pristine condition. Unfortunately I did not have room so I packed them into 4 fruit crates and took them to Half Price Books in Redmond Washington. I was told to come back in half an hour and they would tell me what they were willing to pay. When I returned the store clerk told me they would give me $5, I thought she was talking about the book she had in her hand. Then the manger told me that it was for the entire collection! I was dumfounded and said "My husband would roll in his grave, but I didn't know what to do with the books." The store manager then was said was the firm price. So I took the $5 then went to the car and cried. I am an astute professional and not a push over, but it had been an extremely difficult year and I was overwhelmed. Under normal circumstances I would taken the books back and donated them to Goodwill. So when you purchase books at Half Price Books keep in mind that they are unethical and rip people off. Shame upon you Half Price Books!! This is the first bad review that I have written but it is more than warranted. read more

2 stories of used book glory!! Need I say more? This is the biggest and best HPB in the area with its own large parking lot out front, just a short walk from Redmond town center. For me, it's a landmark of the Redmond downtown area. This location has everything you could want. This is by no means comprehensive, but on the first floor you'll find the fiction, romance, childrens, rare editions, dvds, games and stationary, art, and food sections as well as the room where you go to sell your books which has its own side entrance. As you go up the stairs to the second story from the back of the store, you'll find books on science, nature, medicine, self-help, test prep, magazines/journals, and history and politics which opposes their clearance section. All the sections are clearly labeled and the staff are helpful. The selling process is efficient and streamlined. They call your name over the loudspeaker when your books are ready. This bookstore is truly a pleasure to visit! read more

I regularly browse/buy from HPB and occasionally sell to HPB. For a book junkie, it's a very good source to buy books. Buy: 4.5 stars Half Price Books, as the price implies, sells books at half price - mostly. It would be a full 5 stars for they didn't "cheat" in one aspect. Instead of using the price published on the book, they jack it up to the current price and charge half of that. Even for an older print with no collectible value, it's not cheaper than a later print. That's very annoying. I also like their clearance books section a lot. There's always something worthwhile to buy. Their inventory is understandably limited by what people bring them to sell. They do have NEW new-released books always sold at 20% off. They also have older popular books that are new. I always enjoy their many sales. 20% off everything during most major holiday weekends. And I think twice a year, a week of sales that ends at 50% off on Sundays. That's my favorite sale! Sell: 2.5 stars Because of the half price and their many sales, they pay very little for what you bring them. It's virtually pennies to the dollar. I'm much more mentally prepared for it by now. It was such a shock the first very times I sold to them. If I really want good money back, I literally drive to Powell Books in Portland once a year. :P No problems with the staff here. They are always very nice. They have free parking, which is good. I usually prefer to park at the adjacent lot and also walk to other places in downtown. read more

Went into this location to sell books. Right from the start Jason was very rude . I was waiting patiently for my books to be totaled and was told by another gentleman that I could not stand in the walk way. I moved out of the way and right when I was out of eyesight they startled negatively talking about me. I talked to the manager about what I experienced and he didn't really care just saying they "are understaffed " . I grabbed my books and left . So normally I would break things down a little bit more but all I can say for this place is go there. They have something for everyone including an extensive collection of role-play books. I love used bookstores and I love this one the most, every visit to Seattle I leave with an arm full of books and a bit of shame for how much money I've spent, which is still way less than I ever would've spent anywhere else. I always find something unique that I was not expecting. The staff is always incredibly helpful there's ample parking nearby, just know that you're going to spend a lot of time in here if you're a bookworm. Just sacrifice your afternoon you won't regret it! I'm pretty sure they have other media that I saw but I was so enraptured by their large selection of books I didn't check it out. I did notice that they had a lot of new merchandise for calendars and journals and puzzles which was all lovely and interesting to look at as well. wow, this seems like the nicest of the bunch. its a cool brick building that is home to quite a few books looking for some new homes. plus, it has it's own parking lot! i love that the floor creak when you walk around, looking for stories. lots of thoughts to be shared in this place, and i'm shocked that i didn't even know it was there. to be honest, the space would make an awesome restaurant but that's for another time. read more

This location has dedicated parking right out back and has an excellent selection. It is clean, well maintained, and adequately staffed. There are chairs placed around the store so you can sit down and poke at a book if you need to. Customer service is excellent. The only downside is if you sell your books, DVDs / Blu-rays or other artifacts to them. Do not expect to get a fair price, you will get less than 1$ per item in many cases, even if the item is in perfect condition. You do not get extra for autographed items in many cases either. This isn't the employees being cheap, they have little say in what you get paid. They scan your item, mark the condition and the database spits out a number. In short, Half Price Books is cheap. You must stay on premises also while they evaluate your items, so if you show up with a large batch of things, plan on sticking around for a couple of hours while they evaluate your items and then tell you get maybe $80 for them. If you are looking to make a profit, sell your things on eBay, you'll get more there. Go here to buy books, you'll enjoy it and get your money's worth. Do not go here to sell books. read more

I came to half priced books for the first time ever in Redmond, let's just say my experience was disgusting. I just wanted to buy a few books (I'm a HUGE reader & found some good finds here) and when I tried to check out... the clerk Jason was unbelievable utterly RUDE. Papa John's is always reliable and tasty. Itga our go to pizza because it's consistently good. Go for the thin crust to lower your carbs and include at least one of their fresh veggies to add balance to your pizza. Don't forget to look through all their specials not just the ones at the top of the page because there's always something to save you some bucks if you choose the right permutation of 'zas, sides, and the other deliciousness. Try the chicken poppers. Very fresh tasting and not like packaged chicken nuggets. My personal pizza favorites have been the Super Hawaiian and the Meats, but with one of the meats swapped out for a veggie or two, and all on their thin crust. The staff were all wearing masks and the shop was both clean and meticulously maintained (one staff member was constantly reshelving the fiction section, hats off to that). Take it or leave it....30 books dropped off in Mar 2020 yielded an 'offer' of $20. That equals an average of 67 cents per book. If the average selling price of each book is $5.00, that means they are making a gross margin of 87% on each book! Wow! There are a lot of complaints online about the reseller practices of this used bookstore chain. BELIEVE what you read. I wish I had checked it out before delivering, but the complaints are not easy to find, so someone must be monitoring and trying to bury them. Search on Google: "Half Price Books Complaints" Most of the complaints are similar to mine: I cleaned out some 50 books, and figured I might get about a $1.00 for each or so, since the average used version ran between $3-5 per book item. But this bookstore has no business standards. They don't give you a fair return, because they figure you won't take back all the books that you just carted over. Of course, they don't realize the business they are losing in the future by not employing fair business practices. Because I just brought over a sample to see what they would estimate. I kept the choice items for a follow up sale, which obviously won't happen again at Half Price Books. Take your books elsewhere and cutoff their resale market. Check the reseller ratings first. OR sell them on Amazon. SAD CLOWNS always get you down. read more

I brought in several puzzles, and immediately explained that I had never been in a HPB before but had heard they will buy used puzzles. "Yep, we do, leave them here, there are a couple of people in line in front of you." I twiddled my thumbs for a half hour, then was paged and informed that they could accept none of my puzzles because they were all opened. That would have been excellent information to lead with when I told them I had used puzzles! The folks are nice enough and seem to have a decent book selection, but this store ended up just being a big waste of time and effort for me. read more

Pretty impressed by how big the store is, with convenient late evening working hours. The clearance section is huge and well structured, so you are not thumbing in a pile of any genres! I did find that the prices are not necessarily reduced to half, someof them were priced only at dollar or two less than what I could find as "new items". I did bring this point up with the cashier and she made a note of it, saying she would check. Many workbooks, novels are steeply priced, unless you stumbled upon the clearance section per se...Downtown Redmond, so parking spots are few and fill up pretty soon, unless you visit during non peak hours(weekdays/afternoons/late evenings). read more

I love books as much as food, and if I could find a way to extract the text, in a manner that would sustain my life, I would do it. What about at half price? DEAL! Obviously, that's not going to happen, but this nevertheless, is the place to be, if you are looking for a great book value. It's a used book store, with new books mixed in, and neat gifts for the bookworms. This location is large, two stories of fun filled goodness, a nicely packed selection of DVDs, music, a few bits of software, and of course a ton of books. You walk in, and immediately, you see just how many literary delights you can find. Sure they are not always the newest books, and maybe they don't have the exact title you came in looking for, but I counter with this. If you are in a lover of books, and are lost for your next book, rest assured, there are plenty of texts to fill your imagination, at the right price. There are few places which leave you with a good feeling, that you got a good deal, especially in this economy, but if you seek a book to bind your mind, this is the place for you. If I had more space in my home, I would build a library with many a volume from here. Tips: Buy in Bulk? They sell books by the yard (3 feet); talk to the sales staff there, and they will help you make that happen. If you sign up for their mailing list or get a calendar from them, you will find graet savings with their coupons. Check out the clearance sections, find them and you just might find a treasure for pennies on the dollar. They also buy books, haven't done it in a while, but if you have books lying around, bring them in, and the will give you an offer. Headline: Books! Cheap! Half-Price Books is a used book seller, and that is about 3/4 of the space is here - books. Avoid the computer section, and all the books will be in good condition. They have enough that you are likely to find what you want. They also have a large collection on vinyl, CDs, and movies. If you are looking for games, they have that too. They have one of the best used D&D sections I have seen. I 'm also thinking about coming back for 2001: A Space Odyssey on vinyl. Staff is friendly and there are enough people around to help should you need it. Parking is also plentiful. There is an adjacent lot and phratry of on-street parking around. They will also buy your books, CDs, Vinyl. and movies, if that is what you want. read more

Half Price Books is a great bookstore. I used to go to locations in Austin, TX, so I was delighted to see they had stores here in Washington state. With so many bookstores closing down due to an increase in online media, it is nice to see that HPB is still around. They will buy back your used books, software, music, videos, etc. for either store credit or cash payout. You will get more value out of your used book sales by taking the store credit, but it is nice to know that cash payout is still an option. read more

I came to this store recently and was pleasantly surprised by how awesome it is! I've lived in Redmond for over 17 years, and eons ago, I brought many books here to sell. Most of the books were new and were coffee table art books (i.e., super expensive), and I remember how shocked and disappointed I was when they offered me pennies for them. I vowed never to come back. Fast forward 15 years or so, and I came back. As a customer in the market to buy books, this is a great place. My kids got books they needed for school and I got some current bestseller non-fiction books, in addition to a mint Monty Python & the Holy Grail DVD. Also got a box of lovely notecards for $2.99. Everything was very reasonably priced, the lay out of the store is great, and the selection in every section I checked out was impressive. The books themselves all were in good to great quality; a few I saw had handwritten notes in the margins or highlighted areas. But not bad. Some appeared totally new. And the salesperson was friendly enough at the cash. My overall assessment: great place to buy books, but you won't get much return here if you're selling your books here. read more

I go to Half Price Books regularly. I like to buy art reference books and some things for the classroom. However last week I went in, I gave the cashier my teacher discount card for %10 off and he took it from me. He said a lot of people have been abusing their cards lately and mine didn't have a signature on it so he has to take it. All I thought was ok since someone else out their is abusing their card I get mine taken away. I said does that mean go through and apply for a new card? It doesn't seem fair that you are taking my card.He said I'm sorry but that's the rules. You can speak to a manager about it. I said yes I'd like to do that. The manager comes out and the cashier explains the situation to me while he hands him the card. The manager tells me that they do have to take the card. I said so I'll have to sign up and bring proof again ? The Manager says you can bring in a pay stub or staff id. To which my boyfriend answers "well why don't you just show him the pay stub you have we can access it online through your phone . The manger says, "well it's up to my discretion as manager wether it's valid or not." Anyways, after all the frustration and literally having a card taken out of my hand and handed to a manger, whom I assumed then walked off to throw the card into the abyss with other fraudulent cards I guess. I decided not to buy anything. So I told the cashier that's ok I don't want the stuff. The cashier says well we can put your items on hold. It might be better anyways because we are having 20% off On Monday." What he didn't tell was that they were having a discount week which is: Monday-Tuesday 20% off one item ,Wed-Thurs 30% off one item , Friday-Saturday %40 off one item, then Sunday 50% off one item. I had gotten the emails earlier that day so I asked him if he could hold it til Sunday. At which point he said wow that's even better because you get %50 off one item. He also said that the person who handed me my card should have filled it out. The other stores had new people who didn't pay attention to what they were doing. I wanted to mention that this was the same store I got it from, but I was already tired. So today is Sunday, I go to pick up my books. I see the same cashier. I'm not sure if it's coincidence, but I'm next and I'm suppose to end up at his register. He says next customer so I step up. He tells his coworker he has to leave, and now all of a sudden I'm being rung up by his manager the same manager I dealt with days before. We go through the transaction. And I give him my School employee ID card so I can get a new teachers card. I mentioned that they had taken my card away, I thought this should clear the "people have been abusing these cards" stigma that I felt was now associated with me. He just said "right"..... not "sorry about that" just "right" . Then I had to give my residential zip code, name of my school, what grade level the school was, and the schools address and zip etc. Sorry for the long review, but I don't feel comfortable attending a store that I have been going to almost every other week for years. I thought after coming in today I would feel better about the situation, but I felt much worse. There's something to be said about having something taken away from you and having a manager confirm yes this is the way we treat the speaking yet not being understood how a situation is frustrating to you, and then still feeling like you are being treated like you did something wrong when you haven't. I thought going in today and getting my book for a higher discounted price would make me feel better, But there is a lingering discomfort. Great Half Price Books! There are always plenty of staff, to keep the place tidy and stocked, which other Half Price locations could take a hint at. The place is two-stories and there are two stairways in different sections of the store. I highly recommend going up there because that's where the clearance section is and I always, always, always find books there no more than four bucks. It's a dangerous place for me! If you sell your items here, the staff is fairly quick at getting through them and giving you an offer. There's one unisex bathroom on the first floor and a private parking lot -- but note that during the holidays it gets full. This bookstore is always a stop for me whenever I'm in Redmond. read more

Don't waste your time bringing books in to sell, at least at this Redmond location. This is the third time I've given them a try, and it's the last. They are notorious for not paying much and I wasn't expecting a lot, but I brought in a box full of collectible books, many were author signed and in very good condition. Abebooks valued each of them up to $70 but the woman at Half Price Books only offered $3.00 for the ENTIRE box! It was ridiculous. I brought them all home to ebay this winter, and won't ever waste my time with the Redmond location again. Which also means, I won't ever shop there again. The Crossroads location however, offers substantially more for books so you might consider selling/buying from there. read more
