I always love popping into a bookstore even though I already own way too many :) Experience: (4/5) This is a decently sized bookstore located in the Redmond Town Center. They have tons of cool events posted on flyers and chalkboards that are worth checking out. I really liked their selection and it's organized really well. I took a couple pictures of books I want to come back for. I just wish the space was a little cozier, though that's not much of something they can help. Personally, I would have a hard time reading underneath the rectangular LED ceiling lights. read more

One part stationary store, one part boutique store, one part book club, and four parts bookstore Brick & Mortar has it all! When I was a kid a bookstore could just be a bookstore but when Amazon is in your backyard and can undercut almost any book price it is near impossible for the old model to survive. Brick & Mortar does a nice job of serving various markets providing a variety of items. Yes, they have a solid range of books and they do a great job of promoting them. But they also have pens, mugs, candles, inks, notepads, and other boutique items. Everything is good quality and most are not big brand names but smaller brand names to even handmade goods. They also offer a variety of book clubs and promote author signings. They know how to bring people into the store and it is a very cordial environment. There's more personalization here then in my Amazon recommendations list and while they are more expensive it typically isn't such that is a dealbreaker. I enjoy the atmosphere. It is also in a great location at Redmond Town Center so there's no issue with parking. I frequently stop by between going to the movies and grabbing a bite to eat. I bought lots of great books from here, and even a $100 fountain pen + ink. They overcharge the retail price. I also met the owner (the elderly grey-haired lady), and she kicked me out. I enjoy the friendly customer service, handwritten book recommendations from staff members, and diverse selection of books. Since they are a smaller local store, they don't carry a large selection in stock. Still, the breadth of their curated selection is great and enjoyable to explore! I recommend going with the hope of finding a few new books you weren't that weren't on your Goodreads "Want to Read" list. They also have a punch card system which rewards $20 off for every $200 spent. While Amazon may be a little cheaper, the selection, atmosphere, community, and friendliness make up for minor cost difference. Support local bookshops! read more

Brick & Mortar Books is a pretty impressive book store. The inside is gorgeous. The layout is approachable, including chairs to read and browse. The right side of the store has staff recommendations. I always browse those when I come in. The other area I enjoy is the "new in paperbacks" table. I prefer to buy paperbacks to fit a double row on my bookcase so I appreciate this table for newly available in paper back books. Lastly, the back has a children's section. When I come here with friends and their kids, we roam the books in the back. They host book clubs. They host readings and authors. They are simply great! Lastly, once I observed the owner who could have easily ringed up a sale and not said anything, but instead pointed out to the child's mom that the book that the child chose might not be age appropriate (it isn't; he was being gentle). And then the owner showed them different books to consider. Parents, This is a place you can trust. I definitely enjoy this place and always drop by when I'm in Redmond Town Center. read more

If I'm going to buy new books and I want to chat to people who can book-talk to me and my kids.... this is my place. The store is beautiful. A nice selection of popular books for all ages, on all topics - easy to navigate. Also a few gifts-for-book-lovers.... without the corporate-soul-draining of larger book stores. My son had a gift card and spent an hour with one of the staff talking about different series' that he might like. In the end, he carefully picked out a handful of different things to add to his growing collection. read more

Was impressed with the selection of books! I was able to find books for all ages of my family, and easily. It was nice to not feel overwhelmed by the shelves and amount of books, too. Staff was very helpful, offering help, if needed. Store was clean and orderly. They also had some gift-y stuff, to choose from. I also noticed that they gave book clubs that usually meet regularly in store, but are currently meeting via Zoom because of Covid. Still, fun! read more

For all of us who feel a mix of emptiness and nostalgia when walking past what used to be the Border's storefront after its closing years ago....I'm glad to say that Brick and Mortar provides bookworms like myself with a new retreat! I wouldn't consider it a true Border's replacement but I also don't think it's intended to be. The store contains a wide variety of genres: biographies, teen and regular fiction, children's books, psychology, sports, etc. They cover it all, but definitely at a smaller scale than a Barnes and Noble for example. Other than books, they also carry greeting cards, puzzles, magazines and other miscellaneous items. Make sure to find the shelf of Literary Artwork where the words of classic novels have been formed into a symbolic image of the corresponding book. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and that really is what this art encompasses - literally! Right at the entrance is a wall featuring recommended reads, so it's worth a browse to see if there's something that catches your interest! Super glad that Brick and Mortar joined the community - it's a pretty cozy shop with such a homey atmosphere. I couldn't help but notice all the open space at the entrance though....I'm sensing plenty of room for more books! :) read more

I want to love Brick and Mortar SO BADLY. I want to support a small business in my town SO BADLY. I really do. But it's not my go-to bookstore despite being within walking distance. My biggest issue is that B&M seems to only ever have the newest bestsellers and nothing else. If you're looking for something you saw on BookTok or the latest novel in a bestselling series, this is the place for you. I go to B&M for those kinds of books. If you're looking to really explore different genres, or if you read an author's bestseller and want to check out what else they've done, or expand your interests... well, this may not be the place for you. But they have fun puzzles, stationary, super cozy socks... just not a huge catalog of books. I still prefer Half Price Books right down the street since they tend to have a lot of the same bestsellers for less PLUS a more expansive collection. read more

I'm not much of a Yelper. I don't take offense easily and I like to think I'm an empathetic person. I understand people have bad days, and a negative review should not be used as a retaliatory tactic as it holds a very real potential to harm a business--particularly a small business. However, after experiencing discrimination twice in one week, and reading similar incidents from fellow patrons on Yelp and Google reviews, it's abundantly clear this is not a one-off negative encounter but rather a collective problem of staff behavior and unreasonable expectations. This staff at this bookstore discriminate against children. They follow you and your young child around the store under the guise of customer service but are scouting for a chance to scold. Last week it was a command to not touch any of the books, this week it was a similar order. What is the point of visiting a 'brick and mortar' bookstore only to be reprimanded for gently handling the books? I would understand the chiding if I had let my child run amok and damage the store, but I was right next to her as she was browsing, hence me being privy to the conversation. Read the reviews for similar experiences and don't forget to check the hidden reviews for a shockingly concerning account from a customer who came with an autistic group and was asked to leave. I used to come here every Saturday and purchase, at the very least, one book for my child each time. Before entering the bookstore she would proclaim, "okay mama, time to use my inside voice." Apparently she should've left her hands at the door too. The staff that work here would do well to receive training on discrimination and understand that if they expect antique-store behavior from their customers, then they should rename the establishment to Brick & Mortar Antiques. read more

How is this possible? Awesome real book stores were supposed to be a dying breed, right? OK, now the selection isn't huge and the prices aren't better than online but for the relatively small size the inventory is very well curated, the staff is super knowledgeable and can give meaningful recommendations (none of that "people who bought this also bought that"-nonsense but REAL recommendations because they read the books themselves etc.) and best of all: you can browse and discover things you would have never found online. I've done one order there and that showed up on time, really just a good excuse to grab some pastry and coffee from the close-by stores and then sit at Redmond Towncenter and do some reading. read more

In a growing digital world, we need brick and mortar bookstores like Brick & Mortar even more. I remember when Borders was at Redmond Town Center, and I practically bought every book I found during its final day of business, and since, it has always been a shame that there was no bookstore at this shopping centre. Although there is a Half Price Books not too far from the Redmond Town Center, you can never EVER have too many bookstores! When I was walking around the shopping centre last weekend I saw the sign and realized that it was a new bookstore, so naturally, I wanted to check it out. And during my visit there was a sidewalk sale where many best seller books were selling for five bucks each, so I instantly became a fan of this place! Inside, you won't find an expansive collection, but you will find best sellers, in addition to some new finds. The store is organized very well, and it's easy to find what section you're looking for. It's also very clean, and spacious, so moving around the store was easy even with many people inside. I especially liked that they had chairs throughout the store in different spots, inviting readers to read. AND, they allow dogs! It's a very inviting store, and loved how engaged the employees were with customers who were in search for specific books. You don't often see that in mega bookstores or ONLINE. Overall, this is a great addition to the Redmond Town Center, and will now be a must stop for me whenever I'm in the area. read more

Thank goodness a book store has returned to Redmond Town Center! Brick & Mortar fills a much-noticed and deeply-felt gap that's been present every since Borders closed up shop years ago. (I worked for Borders for its first year at RTC and even helped set it up prior to its opening, so I was particularly heartbroken when it shuttered up). Redmond is a literate community. We love our books! And as techie as we all tend to be, many of us still prefer tangible books over Kindle reads. This new book store isn't Borders. It isn't Barnes & Noble. It's smaller, more intimate, less massive and overwhelming in scale. There are way fewer selections than the large chains, sure, but they have the best sellers, the "meat and potatoes" so to speak, and then some, and they can probably order what you want if it's not stocked on the shelves. And what they lack in scale, they compensate with the personal touch: the folks who run this store and who work here are wonderfully friendly and helpful and eager to help customers find what they want or just to chat. They really seem to care that people who visit the store enjoy the experience, feel comfortable, want to come back. This type of personal approach makes us want to be regulars here. There are beautiful greeting cards, nifty book/reading accessories and puzzles, too. (I tried to put together a seemingly simple wooden puzzle for 15 minutes, to no avail. I'm positive a piece is missing. LOL!). My family is so happy a book store is back in Redmond Town Center. read more

I'm ecstatic that Redmond Town Center has a bookstore again! I loved the giant Borders and was a regular there before it closed, and have felt its loss ever since. This new addition is not nearly as big - it's just one large room, really - but it has a nice, well lit space, and a nice selection that is well chosen, if not large. There's lot of space to hang out and spend some time with a title before making final selections, and the staff is helpful but not pushy. I hope we can look forward to author events other community activities at this store, but even if they don't materialize (probably due to lack of space), it will still be a great spot to pick up an idea and a title before heading over for coffee. read more

Saw this bookstore for the first time in Redmond Towncenter and popped by. The layout is incredible, there are small wardrobes along the right wall used to display new media (books with reviews from staff and paper goods such as thank you cards). Walking alongside I found a small box with unique maps (Bainbridge and Whidbey Island) and was sold! I'm not a map collector, but after growing up on Whidbey somehow felt convinced this store was special. I will return. read more

When visiting my parents in Seattle we decided to make the jaunt up to Monroe (they live in Woodinville) to check out this new indie bookstore. What a beautiful space: warm, bright, and welcoming! They had a great selection of titles and we left with some staff recs for us and a couple board books for my son. If you're in the area this is a must-go! read more

This is shopping local at its best!! With all the online options and the Amazon kindle, e-reader, etc options it feels like the good old picking up a book in paperback is a thing of the past. Except wait, not everyone wants electronics!! This is an amazing locally owned small book store full of awesome books, Knick knacks and more! What makes it especially fun is all the reviews the employees do in the books and have them posted on the shelves. It is a blast to just go browse the shelves and pick up a good read. We came here for our friend, Peggy King Anderson's Book Launch of Two Moon Journey. That launch was great and her party at the store was excellent. It is nice to see a small local book store promoting local authors. I browsed around the bookstore. They had a moderate selection. I would have liked to see more books on local history on their shelves, even if just all the local (Upper Eastside - Redmond, Woodinville, Kirkland, Bothell) Arcadia book series. I did see a couple of interesting books and will probably come back later to browse. read more

Was visting my parents from out of state last week and happened upon Brick & Mortar Books at Redmond Town Center. This bookstore is reminiscent of those I grew up with in the Seattle area, too many of which have been pushed out of business by big box stores and online shopping. I needed a gift for my friend's son, and Brick & Mortar Books proved to be just the place. The owners were incredibly sweet and spoke to us about how they opened this store with their son. The ambiance was friendly and warm and the selection was great. This is the perfect place to do your Christmas shopping. I love supporting the local mom and pop stores, (hence the title!) I will certainly be back to this awesome shop upon my return to the Pacific Northwest. read more

This is a great addition to Redmond Town Center. I can never pass the store without at least browsing their display of books on the windows. (And more than once I've seen them start carrying other books by that author during later visits.)
