Not even of the books we were looking at. She literally said, "I need in this section so you're going to need to move to a different area." She had the most awful and rude tone. She was extremely rude in how she asked and then proceeded to literally argue with me in the store because I tried to explain that those were the books we came to the store to look at. I have never had an experience with an employee like that literally anywhere in my entire life!! That woman should not be interacting with customers in any way shape or form. I didn't say anything to another employee and we just left because it was so upsetting. But I probably should have because if I was the owner or manager of the store, I would want to if is one of my employees was speaking to my customers that way.

EBB is have to visit if you are Seattle. Skip the bubblegum wall and the original Starbucks. If you truly want to see Seattle, visit Elliott Bay Book and you will thank me later. I wish I had more time to visit every section and shelf. I wandered aimelessly at first then found myself in Queer True Crime. I ended up having a fantastic conversation with a lovely human at the information desk. I don't remember their name but they even spoke with my daughter on my iPhone as I was looking for a particular book for my wife. I was also on the hunt for Etna, a novel but it was sold out. I ended up purchasing per a staff recommendation, 'Attempt at Exhausting a Place in Paris' by Georges Perec Reading the first couple of pages instantly transported back to Paris, a place I know extemely well, and I saw every bus, man, woman, child, server worker, and heard every klaxon and shouted obscenity. Do yourself a favor and search out Elliot Bay Book when you visit Seattle, you'll be supporting a local business and feeding your mind and soul.

The place is massive, with high wooden shelves, endless aisles, and a selection that spans just about every genre you can think of. If you remember the golden age of independent brick-and-mortar bookstores, walking in here hits a really nice nostalgic chord while still feeling vibrant and full of energy. The handwritten staff recommendation notes posted along the shelves are a fun touch, and having a cozy cafe tucked inside makes it easy to grab a drink and get lost in browsing for an hour or two. It is definitely a cool, memorable stop in the neighborhood whether you are hunting for a specific read or just soaking in the literary vibes.

I feel very conflicted about leaving a review for this space…read more Visitors be aware. We stopped here because we wanted to try a local coffee shop with the big window labeled "Monroe Coffee Co." ...They do serve coffee, but I should have been more careful about reading the other sign. It's a Christian bookstore. And I'm not religious. The space was clean, spacious, well lit, and the people behind the counter were wonderfully kind. If you are Christian, I highly recommend this spot for bible study. For me, however, the space was uncomfortable because of the theme. Oh. And they don't have wi-if. (Gasp) This place isn't designed for me, and thus it's difficult for me to share my opinion about it here. If I don't like ice cream, it's unfair for me to give a bad review of an ice cream shop. Please give it a try if you're a person of this particular faith. I bet you'll love it!

I got the triple because I thought the same of the double I had recently. I wish I had noticed that alternative milk is $2.50 in a 16oz. I was shocked at the price of my drink and by the clear line item on my receipt. If I were to go back I'd likely aim for an Americano and bring my own non-dairy creamer. The service was fast and friendly, but I felt like I ended up with an expensive lukewarm cup of alternative milk.
