This is why bookstores are going out of business. I went in to buy several books and a floor puzzle for my kids. I was really focused on buying books surrounding going potty. There is a really nice gentleman who was working the registers who left his post to try and help me find any books on potty , because I wasn't able to find any myself. He informed me they had just moved the potty books, and he hadn't had time to familiarize himself with the section, but he wasn't able to find any either. He apologized profusely, and informed me he had to go back to the registers and his coworker who was in receiving would be out in a few minutes and could potentially help me. He also apologized because they were short staffed. This is obviously not his fault, but man, what a shame, I had another set of books in my hands and a floor puzzle. Who knew Barnes & Noble was still a thing? Apparently the new Totem Lake shopping center did because there's a spot here for Barnes and Noble at this trendy area, conveniently located next to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. So if you miss this mega book chain then here you have it in Kirkland. After an appointment nearby, I decided to walk around the shopping center, checking out what's new and spotted Barnes & Noble. When I walked in, I saw there was a café to the right of the entrance and the main store straight ahead, which is more compact in size than other BN locations I've visited. None the less, it is an inviting space with a lot to check out. Like I mentioned, the size is much smaller than expected, but the selection is key here, as they feature a lot of their best selling items and new releases. I also liked that the dark green and dark wood accents are long gone, as the store has transformed into a more well-lit, bright space. If you're a reader and are at the Totem Lake shopping plaza, then this new Barnes & Nobles is worth a gander. read more

Located in the new Totem Lake Mall. If you haven't been here, you should give it a try. It's awesome!!!! Not only to visit B&N but also to check the other shops. I like this bookstore specially for children because they have the opportunity to touch the books, read them, play and interact. They placed this lego duplo table so cool !!! Today was the Grand Opening! Excellent bookstore. I don't want to get into the Big-Chains vs Indie issue, but this store reportedly operates somewhat independently as a result of their new corporate ownership. ANYWAY, this location has lots of parking, free wifi, masked workers, and nice selection. I got some signed editions by Kobi Yamada who was here for the grand opening. A worker named Max helped me and really knew his stuff about the books I'm interested in (let's just call it 'nerdy stuff'). So I bought even more stuff based on his recommendations. I like B&N because I'm able to purchase books that I can't get at the library in a timely manner, and they have the latest books and comics that my kid loves. The kids section is well stocked, and there is even a little play table with large legos for the smaller ones to play with. There are also chairs in the kids section. The B&N has an attached Starbucks, which makes it super convenient to get a drink or snack. There's also seating and a small magazine rack near the Starbucks. As with most B&N bookstores, this one has cards, some stationary items, calendars, planners, and a nice puzzle and kids section. The manga section is also quite impressive! We upgraded our membership, and it is great! We still get our discount, we received a nice heavy duty book bag for free, and a coupon for $5 (or maybe it was $10) off the next purchase. read more

Definitely not my favorite Barnes and Noble. Not even close. Not a lot of soft seating. No carpet which really makes it feel cozy and welcoming. All the fiction is put together. Nothing is categorized like usual such as young adult, historical fiction etc. it's very small as well I was super disappointed. read more

I am so happy Barnes and Nobles is the latest addition to The Village at Totem Lake! There's just something about reading staff recommendation notes and browsing endless rows of bookshelves. I could spend all day here. This particular location isn't as big as others I've been to, but there wasn't anything that stood out that was missing. There's some limited seating throughout the store and a kid's lego table for playing. If you're a fan of Kobi Yamada's books, there are plenty of signed books left in the front of the store. read more

I have stopped shopping here since my initial glowing review. The last three times I was at the store, a VERY loud employee (assistant manager?) kept yelling to me across the store trying to suggest books (I hadn't asked for help) and then harassed me at the counter to join the membership club. I am not interested in joining the club, and don't enjoy the pressure. The last couple times I shopped next door at Trader Joe's, I went home and bought books on Amazon instead. Barnes and Noble corporate, please stop requiring and/or encouraging employees to pester book buying customers to join your membership club at the register. When I politely say "No thank you" and they keep asking "Are you sure?" "Why not?" "Do you even know about the benefits?" it's highly annoying and makes me not shop at your store anymore. Try instead, "Thank you for shopping at Barnes & Noble, we appreciate your business" which has never once been said to me at the end of a transaction at the register. read more

Thank goodness for a Bricks & Mortar location of a Barnes & Noble bookstore. This place is a good medium size, has an adjunct Starbucks and focuses on an array of different demographics including a music section with a curated selection of vinyl. Some DVD's and collections of films and a kids book section. Plenty of useful point of purchase items enhance the shopping experience, for example, a selection of bookmarks. read more

I usually shop at the Bellevue location which is where I have spent hours and hundreds of dollars over the years haha, however it's temporarily closed. This new location feels more like a cold and sterile doctors office. The concrete flooring coupled with the coffee shop and loud music makes it challenging to preview the books. I've come twice now and just leave without buying, feeling overwhelmed by all the noise. Really miss the warmth and coziness! read more

First let me start off by saying that I love books and an avid reader. I have been a Barnes and Nobles paying club member for years. Many of the older stores have branched off to include a cute cafe and lotsa other merchandise besides just books. This store is much smaller with concrete floors, smaller kids area and more focused on what they were meant to be for..books. Possibly due to the smaller space, the store feels almost sterile with a maze of book shelves at various angles, almost no toys, and neutral gender bathrooms. I love cozy bookstores and never pass up the chance to wander the rows to get lost in the titles. I felt this Barnes and Nobles lacked a certain warmth and a browser feels a little exposed with the various categories of books facing each other. This is not a place to linger or browse leisurely. Hence amazingly, I didn't feel the urge to buy anything. I prefer the older B&N stores cluttered with books, toys, carpet, clearance items and kids corner where I can browse for hours and never leave without purchasing an item or ten. This Totem Lake location and it's almost cold, utilitarian layout is not for me. read more
