Part of the kid climbing area. There's also a tunnel slide

Fun place to take the kids on a rainy day. Reservations needed for kids under 14. Website was very confusing re: who needed reservations or not so I recommend calling. Everyone masked and place was scrupulously clean. On the day we went wasn't crowded at all (there are capacity limits for kids, hence the reservation system mentioned above). Fun castle themed kids area with a tunnel slide accessible via ladder or climbing up the wall. Fun activity for kids toddler on up. Good place to get out some wiggles on a rainy day. Taking off one star for being fairly pricey for what it is (need to pay extra for shoe rental on top of an already pricey entry fee).

This is a great place to get a day pass even if you don't climb because they have a great gym with…read morebumper plates, tons of barbells, squat racks, and dumbbells going up to 100 lbs. There's also a small room in the back with ergs, ski ergs, and two stationary Schwinn bikes (plus treadmills and ellipticals. Locker rooms are clean and equipped with showers. There's even a study/quiet room in the back. Wi-fi is a little weak, but it's available.

TLDR: fun way to get a full body workout with friends!…read more Tip: sign the waiver forms online in advance! Keep an ample amount of chalk in your hands at all times! You don't want to rub skin off, trust me! Parking: small private lot Service: check in at the counter, get your shoe rentals and a bag of hand chalk. If you are new to Momentum, you will watch a short intro/safety video. Atmosphere: spacious and music plays in the background but is honestly ignorable and not too overpowering. Just the right volume. There is a variety of levels VB being the easiest and V16 the most difficult. They are marked with white tags at the beginner of each rock color set. There is regular weight lifting and other body building equipment and well as grip training walls. I'm amazed at how some people can hold on to just a sliver of ledge!!! There is a separate closed off room in the back left corner for lounging but it is quite echoey. Poor acoustics. The back left corner also has simple electronic lockers to use and store your belongings. There are instructions on the back of the lock on how to set it. The lockers are a good size and can fit a large backpack. To the right of the lockers is a hand washing station to clean chalk off your hands. Use that knee pad to turn the water on! Overall great place to obtain sore forearms haha. I do personally prefer the Seattle Bouldering Project though because they have more space, equipment and foam rollers.

Vertical World North - Lots of auto belay options

Bring a jacket for the 5-minute walk. Too many team/comp events. It seems like 1 out of 4 times I go, a large portion of the gym is closed due to competition or team training. Yesterday, half of the bouldering area was closed for comp setting. I wish their calendar posted notices of areas being closed like this.

It was even located in a completely different part of Lynnwood than I was guessing. My only complaint is that on a busy Saturday the parking lot is a little difficult, might be a good idea to find out in advance other options for parking if you are coming at a peak time. If you don't know rock climbing is hard work and they have rental shoes and harnesses you can use. This place is huge, with large locker rooms, an upstairs and a downstairs, a gym area and even places to sit around at tables. The upstairs has a lot of bouldering options and a place designed for kids. Seems like they offer a lot of camps/classes here too. Everything was nice and clean, everyone was super friendly and helpful. It still looks brand new. I got a voucher at an auction for the rock climbing experience and invited my family, 2 kids, 7 and 9, and another adult. Their mom came along hoping to photograph our accomplishments. This is meant to be an hour experience where you get someone to do the belaying for you while you work on your climbing. We ended up with Saul, who was the best helper ever. Don't know if he's always there, but if not you should request him. We loved him so much we even wrote out comment cards. He made the experience great for everyone. I had anticipated that we would each do a couple climbs and sit around and watch while the others climbed. I also thought our photographer would have to wait in the lobby (she did have to fill out a waiver). This was not the case, not only was Saul great at helping everyone feel less anxious and providing encouragement, he helped us get set up on the self belay routes so that we didn't spend most of our time sitting around. He did a great job helping us find routes that were appropriate and making sure we were comfortable enough to come down without his help on the self belays. He provided tons of tips and shared his love of rock climbing. He made sure we understood about bouldering and let us hang out up there a bit after our time was over. We had a great time, everyone was able to climb as much as they wanted. The 9 year old rocked it, the 7 year old made some decent climbs and had a good time. Our photographer hung out with us the whole time and took some awesome photos/videos. We had a great day and I hope we do this again in the future. If you are on the fence about trying it, definitely check it out.

There's a reason why I keep coming back to Kaf guides. If you can dream it, they will help you do it! They are willing to work with you on designing the trip you want, they meet you where you are skill and fitness-wise, they are open to feedback, they are kind, patient and fair. I've been lucky to ice climb, crack climb, learn trad and rock rescue, practice avalanche rescue, and dial in my multipitch skills all with the Kaf crew. Even if you're more than just a beginner, you'll benefit from learning from highly skilled and experienced professionals whose passion for what they do is really evident. Their excitement is infectious, and you'll often find yourself in awe of their technical abilities and movement. Watching them in their element is a gift. They make sound decisions to keep you and themselves safe from the many objective dangers in the wild. They'll celebrate the smallest of wins with you, and offer encouragement and support to keep trying. I've heard that you shop for a guide, not a guide service, and this is really true once you get to know this team. Special mention to Woody who has guided me for 90% of it - about 130 hours to date! His problem-solving skills are so impressive and there is no guide I trust or respect more. And Mick who is the heart and soul of Kaf. Mick will have you smiling all through the online courses which are an excellent way to dip your toe into the world of climbing and mountaineering. I'm so excited for more adventures with Kaf in the years to come.
