Best and biggest selection of subs in Boulder. Lots of hot and cold choices, plus vegetarian. The small is a meal, the large for sharing. Good selection of beers (where else can you get a 40 of mickey's in paper bag?) and some pretty cheap drinks. Nice patio, lots of students getting (but usually not) drunk, and a funky feel. I had never been to this place for food before while living in Boulder for 6 years because I had heard they do it make sandwiches well. I went there for the first time today and realized why. I was ordering food and the young man ringing me up was incredibly rude he laughed at me to his coworkers blatantly laughed in my face when I asked for a drink, I even heard him call me "a large woman" when he looked at me. Half Fast is just excellent! We have been enjoying delicious sandwiches and pitchers of Strong Islands here for years and have always been happy, satisfied customers. Yesterday, though, the team at Half Fast truly went above and beyond to absolutely make my day. I had oral surgery yesterday and was seriously craving their delicious mashed potatoes...I couldn't get them out of my head! You can't even buy mashers off the menu (they're available on a delicious sandwich though so I knew they existed), I figured I was out of luck but the guys at Half Fast went out of their way to humor my non traditional order and they worked with my hubby to find a way to get them delivered by Hungry Buffs! 30 minutes later, I was in mashed potato heaven! We ordered online and waited for 45 minutes even after we arrived. They almost completely forgot one sandwich. When we went home and sat down to eat. They completely messed up one sandwich. I ordered a turkey sandwhich and I received one with cream cheese and mushroom. So not even close to what I ordered. I cannot eat the sandwich I got because I am allergic to milk. This place was Amazing! So many choices it was hard to decide. I had a turkey club and shared it with my friend who got a ranch chicken. Great deal too. My only complaint is the lack of parking. I absolutely love this place. There isn't a better sub shop in town in my opinion (though, I love Snarf's and Cheeba Hut, too). The Long Island Iced Teas at HFS are strong and cheap which brings a ton of people in the door all day every day. I usually get the 7" Baba Booey with extra meat. I think they charge $1 per ounce for extra meat. I get 2-3 extra ounces, and it is well worth the extra cost. The Baba Booey is turkey, salami, and melted cheese - a delicious combo! The only con I can think of here is that the line gets really long during lunch. You may want to wait until the early afternoon (3-4pm) to go grab a sub. Otherwise it could take a half hour...yikes! read more

I ordered a big apple sub which was mediocre at best. The sandwich was hardly full, very soggy, and had a greasy scent that lingered with me all day. Some friends of mine raved about the quality of food served here but it's safe to say I will never eat here again. Save yourself the trouble and go to snarf's. read more

The food was really gross. When I brought my sandwich back with 3 bites out of it, the manager gave me a hard time and said I ate the whole thing which was far from true. This was my second time in. I wanted to give then a chance to redeem themselves from my last gross sandwich and they failed, miserably. read more

Didn't realize they actually make half fast subs! Ordered one of the hot French dip sandwiches and the roast beef was cold.. it was busy and took awhile to get the sandwich, so wasn't worth having them redo it. Might give it another try next time I'm in Boulder since they have so many good reviews. read more

Excellent, quick, and super filling subs! Don't let the long lines fool you, Half Fast is literally one of the fastest made to order sandwich shop with long lines I've ever been to. The customer service here was LOUSY. The hipster with the mustache took it upon himself to publically embarrass people who weren't drinking and constantly cut into our conversations with snarky remarks like "If I see her take a drink you're all out!" I work in a restaurant too so I understand, but butting into my conversations 5+ times and pestering me about ID gets annoying after I told him for the 1000th time I DONT DRINK. He then proceeded to stare at my group during his ENTIRE smoke break and even creepily winked at the girl I was with. The staff as a whole were unfriendly and it was not a very welcoming enviroment. Half Fast is one of my favorite places to grab a drink in Boulder on a nice day. The outdoor patio is a great place to hang out, and more importantly, they offer personal pitchers of long islands. They're small pitchers, granted, but they're a still a nice way to get a buzz going after/ in between class. Can't really go wrong with that, or a pitcher of the margs. They have some other mixed drinks on the menu but I've come to find that they are rather hit or miss and generally very sweet. They also have an unbelievable amount of sandwiches, and while they're not the greatest subs in Boulder, they're pretty decent and it's always fun to try different choices. One of my favorite, most absurd sandwiches is "The Colonel", which comes with mashed potatoes, chicken tenders, corn, gravy, and coleslaw.... Highly recommended, especially if you're drunk. If not, there are plenty of other things to chose from. They also have salads and chips and such. I don't always love the atmosphere of Half Fast, but then again, I don't always love the atmosphere of Boulder and that's why I live in Denver. Anywho, definitely worth checking out if you are in the area! read more

This place is so freaking hit and miss. I guess that is what you get though when the sub shop is being run by a bunch of stoned college kids. Example, yesterday...went there with two friends to grab a "quick bite." I order first, pay, then sit down. My two buddies order after me. They get their sandwiches, and I don't get mine. 10 minutes pass... After 15 minutes I ask someone who works there and they say it should be right out. After 20 minutes I go to the counter and ask for a refund. Turns out they haven't even started making the sandwich and the crappy-ass counter girl who looked 12 years old wouldn't give me a refund. I finally get the manager out and he refunds my money and has the gall to ask me if he should cancel the sandwich order. "No jack off, I want my damn sandwich!" 5 minutes later they gave me my sandwich. I sat down at the table (my friends were already done eating), ate my sandwich and it was great. Sandwich = good Service = Stoners who don't know how to handle "their highs" I would also like to point out that my buddy ordered a BLT and was shocked at how much bacon was actually on the sandwich. He literally had to pull out strips of bacon because it was too much. These guys definitely pile on the ingredients. Huge and cheap portions. I shared a 7" sub of the thai chicken (sandwiches are 7" or 14", which just seems excessive), which was stuffed with chicken and wontons and greens but needed more spice, which can be easily remedied. I also drank one of their Mega-ritas, 32 oz of tequila and sour mix and whatever else. Let me just say, I'm glad I was staying downhill, because that was the only direction I was going. read more

You haven't truly experienced CU life till you have ventured to Half Fast subs. It's a great place to meet your fellow students and grab a delicious lunch or get shitty on their affordable and oh so strong pitchers. There menu is insanely vast. I have probably tried 10 different subs and they were all great. My fav is the turkey with cream cheese and sprouts.. so yummy, but I'm sure you will be able to find literally every type of sandwich you can dream of. The service is usually very fast and friendly and they have a cute patio out front that's great for enjoying boulders beauty on the hill. read more

At the recommendation of a few locals my two friends and I went in for a sandwich. Our first issue was the wait, I think we were one of two people in there and waited about 15 minutes for sandwiches. The sandwiches were inedible - the chicken salad pesto we threw out. The other sandwiches were just not done right - dry and lacking in ingredients they claimed to have when we ordered. i dont get the appeal of this place. everyone i know always talks about "the pitchers of beer", but as a non-beer-drinker, i get to "experience" the food with a sober pallet. ive had a sandwich and a salad from this place- both were totally icky. the sandwich was supposed to be roasted turkey with various "thanksgiving type things" on top- and they used... like... oscar mayer type meat. the "round, out of the vacuumed package" sort of meat. frankly, i get kind of pissed off paying $6+ for fake lunch meat. the salad was supposed to be a chinese chicken salad. EW. EW. EW. EW. ive had airplane salads that failed less. the chicken was like the kind that came out of a bag in the microwave section at a grocery store. only nastier. it smelt like tuna. i hate tuna. moral of the story, if you dont drink beer, you dont need to eat their food. read more
