Ha ha, learned the hard way that HFS is not the place to go if you're looking for something grab n go, and don't know their menu inside out. Popped in here cos I had 5 mins to get lunch. I knew I wanted something Italian on a sub, but they didn't have anything called simply "Italian". I scanned the menu in 10 sec and picked what I thought was the closest item, but of course after I ordered and had time to peruse the menu at leisure, found something that was a better match. Every CU Boulder student ought to know about this place. Hands down, the cheapest and best subs in town. I go here most Fridays between 11:30 to 12:30 ( half price on all subs). My personal favorites are The Shiz and Big Apple. Another must try is the Strong Island Iced Tea ( beware of the quantity though, might be too much for one person). Despite my general disgust for Boulder (yes I went to CSU), I ended up there this weekend, visiting a friend and going to the art museum. After wading through all of the dreadlocks, we went to Half Fast to grab a bite. I was obviously blown away from the amount of choices on the menu. If you're like me and you've never been there before, I'd suggest trying to take a look at the menu in advance. Holy crap! I landed on a sub that had chicken tenders, bacon, roasted red peppers, and basil pesto mayo. I must say it was damn tasty. Although after re-reading the ingredients I just typed, how could it not be right? My misses ended up getting the chipotle cheesesteak, which was pretty good too. Doesn't quite qualify as a cheesesteak in my book, but a good sandwich nonetheless. I love college town fare, and this was exactly that. Cheap eats, drinks, nice flat panel TVs, plently of seating, and fast service. My only complaint is that it's not closer to me here in Denver. People flock 13th street "the hill" is always a fun energy to be apart of. Why not make it better by getting a delicious sandwich from Half-fast? While in Boulder we stopped here for some lunch. They have so many options it was overwhealming for sure to definitely take a look at the menu before you go. They do have the sandwiches divided into sections (vegeterian, turkey, ham sandwiches etc.). It is on the hill and located next to a bunch of other places and across from the university. I got the Shiz which was really good. The Big Apple was also really good! There was plenty of space and an outdoor patio that they allowed you to bring your dog onto. read more

It's hard to go wrong with a sandwich shop that offers 100 different subs on their menu. My personal favorite is the New Turkey, which has artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, onions and garlic spread. Yummy. Might want to suck on a breath mint after that one. Lots of good vegetarian selections as well and some pretty awesome drink specials. If it's lunch time, you should definitely be prepared for a wait. I'd say it usually takes 10 minutes on average to get a sandwich after you order. Perhaps a conspiracy to get people to consume more alcohol while they're waiting. read more

I'm giving half fast a 3 out of 5 stars because the sandwiches ultimately aren't that good. I feel like a ton of people are giving them high stars solely due to the pitchers, which in reality are so sweet they guarantee a terrible hangover. College kids flock to this establishment because it's easy to get drunk off of a pitcher and even easier to get around the 1 pitcher limit. The sandwich selection is extremely expansive but overall they are just another sandwich with nothing special. After a disappointing first trip a few years back. Half fast had come back into my life as a catered lunch. We all agreed that the subs were pretty bland. The bread was soggy, and the chicken tenders in my Shiz sandwich tasted like they are right out of the microwave. Half of the sub was full of bacon and the other half was void of any delicious bacon. I left my second half of the sub to another coworker and it ended up in the trash. If you are looking for a good sub I recommend snarfs or salvaggios.
