I've read a ton of bad press on tire shops so on the advice of one of our new Anchorage friends,…read morethat we trust, we brought our new snow tires to L&M for installation. Other places had us calling them every day for an opening or waiting until the end of November. L&M got us in in three days. We arrived exactly at 3:00 on Tuesday as the snow is just starting. Whew! Maybe it should have been a warning sign when the tech walked back into the office (35 min into our appointment) and asked how he's supposed to work on a BMW when Honda keys are attached to the work order? That took you a half hour??? The super sweet Christine (who makes a killer cheesy potato soup) quickly found our work order and our 3:00pm job now has a 3:45 start. The car was finished in about an hour, as quoted. Plus, at twenty dollars per tire, it would appear a successful visit, thank you to my friend! Wait! Successful up until we were on the road again, approaching Tudor on "C" street. Wobble, wobble and off comes the left rear tire and lodges sideways under the axle. The freakin' tire came clean off! It's Tuesday, 5:00pm rush on our first seriously ice covered road this season. Now we're staring at the Bear Paw bear on the corner with only three functioning wheels on the ground. But thankfully, no one was hurt. Naturally, we called L&M who called a wrecker and carried us back to the shop. At L&M's expense. Having no loaner vehicles, they then sent us home in a cab. Again, on their dime. The following morning our car was first on the rack and all repairs were made. Once more, no charge. In fact, our initial $80 for tire service was refunded and L&M paid for our return cab ride. I spoke to Michael, the owner, and he confirms that they not only double checked/repaired the problem wheel, but they also rechecked the bonehead's (my term, not his) work on the other three. Tragic in some eyes, irresponsible in the eyes of others, inconvenient in mine. Mistakes are made in this world. I get that. This is one area they are not excusable. Burn my steak and you can always make another and we're all good. A serious accident happens due to neglect on my car, that could've have been a catastrophe. One maybe you don't recover from. To sum up. A huge unacceptable mistake was made. But this group bent over backwards to accommodate. They sent the cavalry to rescue us, secured our safe transport home and back then double checked all the work done to the vehicle. They waived all charges and paid all expenses. Equally as important to me is each of them offered a sincere apology even though only one person botched the job. I normally give local businesses a few chances before totally cutting ties. In my book this is a stand up organization that will get my future business and deserves four stars. 10/22

They charged me $32 a quart for the oil and $54 in labor. The last time I got my oil changed it cost me $170, so I feel like I'm being price gouged. Since the prior owner sold the business, things have gone way downhill there. Take my advice and never bring your vehicle to this place. They don't deserve your business.

I did not particularly want to engauge it on the dry summer pavement and scrub the tires around corners to see. I was too lazy to jack up all four tires to test it out. I asked them to check the whole thing out. If this place was unscrupulous, they could have snagged me for a new controlbox, a new electronic transmission actuator and more. In the end all they did was replace my 4x4 engaged light. and my differential fluid, as requested by me. Keep in mind the owner is on site. Unlike many other places. Other posters have issues. 4x4 cars take a beating up here in Alaska Good work isn't free. I personally am never upset if a mechanic discovers stuff wrong with my car that I was unaware of I am pleasantly surprised. And not upset and take out the information on the messenger. --------------- Way to go Young's gear!!!! I wanted to buy a " new" old 4x4 I found it on Craigslist. I drive it. I liked it. I called up Young's and without notice!!!! Asked if they'd look over the 4x4 components. They did. I paid shop rate for a mechanic to test drive, and jack up and check all that Young's is good at fixing They noticed a leaky shock and old t case fluid That's it. They thought the car was a good buy. I've had it 6 months now. No probs! Thanks Greg! And the guys at Youngs!

Young's ordered a new front drive shaft which worked well, but after 9 months, it caused significant vibration. They contacted the manufacturer and confirmed the warranty, and replaced it with a new drive shaft in one day. They also ensured the replacement shaft would not have the same problem before installation. Thanks to Chris and the Young's Gear team for covering a problem that was outside their control, and made the process very smooth despite a part failure. I highly recommend!

I had been thinking about getting my transmission serviced for a while as I'd never had it looked at since I bought my truck. I own a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9 Cummins Diesel. It was already late in the morning when I thought about getting it serviced. I didn't think even with some pleading that they might take me the same day. But I told one of the owners "Jennifer" on the phone where I had traveled from and that I didn't have much time. Jennifer was great, she said bring it in right now we'll make room for you. I got there 40 minutes later and her mechanic "Eric" came out saw me then took my vehicle right into a bay he made ready for me. While I waited for Eric to evaluate my tranny, Jennifer showed me pictures of her and her husband "Chris" projects "race cars" and monster trucks. Chris is the other owner and was busy working on a bench with some parts so I didn't speak with him very long. They were very friendly and I could tell these folks were the old school type "get er done" shop. Definitely NOT a corporate look garage, but a place that looks like real work gets done there. Eric came out to see me about my truck and said the tranny fluid was bad as I had guessed and that it hadn't hurt the tranny but I caught it just in time. He said I needed a new gasket on the rear differential it was leaking so I had him change it and all the fluids. I was probably a hour that I spent there but. The owners made the time pass by sharing photos and conversation about what extra things they were always doing so it was a nice visit and when Eric completed his work he came around and talked with me so I had no worries and shook my hand. You don't get that everywhere these days. The whole day was quite a interesting experience and the service fees were very reasonable. I'll be going back in the time they described for my next check up, and I'd suggest this place to anyone. I'm also happy to leave this review.

Well since may my Toyota has been down.I had suspected it…read morewas the transmission that went out since drive is neutral and only reverse really works. Called all around anchorage to see who would rebuild Toyota transmissions, pretty much no one. I was suggested hansens transmission by the transmission shops I had called and various people. Hansens said bring it by end of June and they'll start on it July 5th. I was on the slope and called them on July 5th to get an update and they said they're so busy they will start working on it first week of august. So first week of august rolls by and I call them again for an update and they still haven't worked on it. The 2nd week of august rolls by and I get an update saying the transmission is fine, but the rear diff exploded. So I authorized them to replace it while I was on the slope (repair was 3000$) didn't care for the price, I know I could have done it cheaper myself but I just wanted it done by the time I get off the slope because my time is valuable. I got back from work august 26th and went to go pick up the truck. I got the keys and went to go start it and when I went to go out it in drive, drive wasn't working. It would just rev up and not move. The dash was also lit up like a Christmas tree, and the rear differential locker was stuck on in 2 wheel drive. In Toyotas the rear locker only supposed to be on in 4 wheel drive. So I went to go inform them about everything, and they said "oh we thought you had all that stuff disabled cause you have it set up for off-roading" and I was like uhhhhhh no it wasn't like that when I dropped it off. Then they said they were going to forward futher diagnostics to their partner to dig into it more. On September 26th so another month, they finally looked further into it and they had said the rear inferential control module is bad, and the transmission is bad. But hansens told me it was fine in the first place. After being told the transmission was bad, they said they wouldn't work on it and said "no more foreign vehicles" but they didn't even Touch it and gave a bad diagnostics and now I'm out 3000$ and to make it even better, I got laid off during this whole process. So don't waste your time here.

I want to give a huge shout-out to Bonnie at Big O Auto Repair…read more She took the time to clearly explain how these warranties actually work--something I wish had been done when I purchased my truck from Dodge Chrysler Jeep on 5th Avenue. Unfortunately, the warranty I was sold there can only be used through their service department, and dealing with them has been an absolute nightmare for even minor repairs. Bonnie stepped in and walked me through everything with patience and professionalism. Because of her, I'm now in the process of canceling that warranty and switching to one that allows me to use Big O exclusively. That peace of mind means everything to me. I've trusted shops like Big O Auto Repair before--my last truck lasted 20 years because I had honest, reliable mechanics who did the job right the first time, never cut corners, and stood behind their work. That kind of trust is hard to find. The team at Big O is exactly that--honest, knowledgeable, and genuinely committed to taking care of both you and your vehicle. I have full confidence that with their help, my current truck will go just as far. If you're looking for a place you can trust with your vehicle, this is it.
