Charming little winery! With tasty wine!
Kelly P.

What a great hidden little winery! Loved the tasting with the owner and walked away with two fabulous bottles for later. We will be back. They have a nice outdoor sitting area and a picnic spot! The gardens are beautiful!

We ended up buying a bottle and enjoying it with our Thai dinner that night in Gettysburg.

If you're looking for a big, fancy winery with a bustling tasting room, this isn't for you. But if…read moreyou want a very friendly place where the owner (Ed) will greet you at the parking lot and take you on a terrific golf cart tour - up close and personal with the grapes used to make the wine you'll soon be sipping - Six Wicket (tastings by appointment only) is superb. After the golf cart tour, which features wonderful mountain views (SW is high up, not far from Camp David but reasonably close to route 70), Ed will stop at his beloved croquet court and invite you to partake. Do: it's a blast. Then you can choose an indoor or outdoor tasting location (bring your own nibbles; there's no food served here) and check out some excellent wines including a delicious Cab Franc in Slovenian Oak and a fine Petit Verdot, among others. Coming soon: a Gruner Veltliner!

Knew we would be in the area for the weekend, so we reached out to see if a tasting and tour slot…read morewas available and it was. Of note, you MUST pre-book your tasting and tour - they operate on an appointment-only basis and it's BYOF (bring your own food). This is not only their vineyard, but also their home - which means you are welcomed in like a guest by Ed and Kathy for your visit. Our visit started with a tour of the vineyard grounds - you will get up close and personal with the grape vines and understand what is really behind what you taste later on. There's plenty to see as there is 15 acres under vines and a total of 7 different grape varietals (two whites, Chardonnay and Albariño and five reds, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Teroldego and Pinot Noir). You'll learn why they planted the way they did and why they planted what they did. You'll understand that Ed's medical background shows up in the health and care of the vines in ways that make a difference in the final output of the plants. We then went to the porch for a fireside tasting of four wines: Albarino (2022), Rose of Cabernet Franc (2022), Cabernet Franc (2020 - American Oak and 2020 - Slovenian Oak). The wines are outstanding. The Albarino is crisp, dry and refreshing - ready for any fish or poultry meal, or just a nice dry white to enjoy with friends. The Rose is a perfect sipper - not sweet by any means and would work well with a variety of foods. The Cabernet Francs were tasted side-by-side while listening to the story of their Slovenian Oak barrels / barrel-making process. The American Oak is full bodied and to me had a hint of a whiskey-like feel to it. The Slovenian Oak was smooth and elegant - certainly something worth enjoying with friends and family. After that, we went into the barrel room to see some more of the operation and do a barrel tasting (if you've not done one of these before, they are very special as you're tasting wines before they are bottled and in some cases while they are still in the maturing phase!). It was an informative and enjoyable experience - it's clear that Ed and Kathy are passionate about their grapes and wines. Take the trip to the mountains and treat yourself to some amazing Maryland wines while there at Six Wicket Vineyards!

Charming country vineyard (with an even cooler name) that has to have some of the best wines in Md!…read moreIt's a little hidden but well worth the journey! Diane, the lovely owner is so gracious and sweet and was able to handle the flow of oenophiles quite effortlessly. They have the main tasting room and also an adjacent room that could accommodate a group tasting. Diane did a great job of giving us a detailed description of each wine and I was actually pleasantly surprised! I'm not a huge fan of Md wine but truly enjoyed the wines here. I purchased a bottle of the Estate Red and they had a wonderful sangria made with their Chambourcin which I also purchased. I love supporting local and especially such a great vineyard such as this one that is also a working farm. I would encourage anyone to venture out to this vineyard--but actually put the address in your gps and not just the name, you will end up at someone's home. I assume this family are use to people ending up at their home-they have a sign that has the address of the vineyard on it--thank you mystery family!

What a cute tasting room and attached barn with a burning fireplace. It's a little out of the way but worth the visit. Don't follow Waze unless you type in the address and not the name of the winery. We'll be back.

Very nice spot with friendly service to have small and large gatherings for those who partake in…read morewine drinking. Let me first add the context that I don't really identify as a wine drinker, but will still occasionally visit vineyards because I think the experience is nice. 61 vineyard was a cool spot for sure. They have a nice open location with tons of space (I think they said around 40 acres) and they've been expanding their main location for the four years that they've been open. They have a main tasting room, an expansion seating room, and an outdoor patio area that are all well maintained and great for parties of all sizes. I partook in the wine tasting which was very good and the staff was very friendly and easy to talk to (which I find often makes or breaks wine tasting experiences) The wine itself does seem on the pricier end for what I'm used to where I think the average bottle here goes for over $20. But there are also member and subscription types of services to take advantage of discounts. I'm not entirely sure if they have relationships with food vendors, but they didn't have many food option in the main location itself when we were there. The food options that I saw were prepackaged charcuterie packs, so I would keep that in mind for your visit. All in all a very nice winery spot and would recommend even if wine isn't typically your drink of choice.

They have a great view, string lights, indoor and outdoor seating, and a brewery close by. They have been around 4 years and are slowly revamping an old dairy farm into this winery. I loved that you could build your own flight. I enjoyed my tasting. I loved that she let us try everything, even though the tasting was set for 5 wines. I'm not sure how tastings would work when they are more busy. We went at opening on a Friday, so we could sit at the bar and hear about all the wines. There were so many good wines, but the Albariño really stood out as crisp and fresh and different.
