We happened to be there for Thursday music night, having found the place on our travels home. What a treat! With tables to sit at but lots others filled with people enjoying life, we could tell it was a place to be at. The service was with a smile, and quick and perfect. Food was delicious with good portions. The band was upbeat and wonderful. And the beer? We all had different ones and enjoyed them all! Best? We were lucky enough to meet the brewmaster, David. His enthusiasm and knowledge was amazing! Also lucky? Meeting Erin who shared the history of the beginnings of the brewery. What a grand evening. A place for locals, for sure, but also a welcoming venue to people newly stopping in. While I'm sure all the extras might not happen to everyone everyday who comes (or maybe it will), it is indicative of a place that knows how to make people welcome. Well...it's been a week since as are at Gerehouse and what we at isn't on the online menu, which says something about how frequently their menu changes! So I can't give you the names of what we ate. He Said: We generally don't review beers at breweries because we know too many people in the business, but I was happy to see so many German lagers on tap, and I gladly had a glass of three of them. SO disappointing. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I was forced to experience this scammy tourist trap on Mother's Day due to my idiot brother. This is not a place to spoil your mother. Sure , it looks pretty on the outside and the story is cool, but that's where the magic ends. The inside is just entitled wait staff expecting unearned tips on overpriced food, drinks, and subpar food. We got there for brunch when they opened and waited 75 minutes for bacon, eggs, and toast. In what world does this take 75 minutes?? Self-serve coffee, water, and OF COURSE a tip is expected because you order your meal at entrance and well before you are NOT served by any incompetant staff to be disappointed in. Food, when it finally arrived, was good but not better than you could create at home in 1/10 of the time and cost. Because of the ordering system, half our party got their food, ate, and were cleaned up before the rest of us were served, which is pretty awkward. Completely dumb, shallow, and I way overtipped in confident optimism as opposed to the reality of the service I received. Stay home. Cook surf and turf for your friends. Serve them drinks. Everything about GearHouse is amazing. The food is creative and delicious and the rotating menu never disappoints. If you are looking for brunch you should run, don't walk, to GH. The beer and cocktails?! Fantastic. The classic libations are on point and the seasonal releases are always creative and refreshing. If the Farm-a-Rita is on the menu, try it! You won't regret it. The live music is thoughtfully curated and a welcome addition to Chambersburg. Thank you for providing music in a welcoming and beautiful atmosphere (be it inside or out!). Full disclosure: I am a regular here. At least twice a week. Because it is soooo good! Hobbes' menu always surprises and always impresses. Never had a bad dish. I preferentially order his nightly special and have had my mind blown multiple times. If I had to describe a "theme," his specials often have braised meats perfectly seasoned with pickled veggies and killer sauces and elevated starches (think a nice smooth buttery garlic mash). There are also recurring daily specials like a Wagyu burger and chicken cheesesteak (just incredible) or a Wagyu cheesesteak. All of the sauces are perfectly paired and elevate the dishes to the "no way I could do this at home" status. Sunday brunch? Fugeddaboudit! Menu rotates seasonally. Currently a unique twist on chicken and waffles seems to be the most popular. My fave is the French toast (sublime sourdough baguettes made at their own bakery, Standard by Gearhouse) served on a layer of sweet creamy icing with fruit. I get the chorizo hash. Great bar drinks which include fresh squeezed OJ mimosas, Irish coffee and a super spicy Bloody Mary - delish. Oh.... And the BEER! Award winning beers deserve all the praise people are heaping. My fave is Taller Than the Trees IPA and Canary in the Coalmine IPA. Find David (roguishly handsome dude with salt and pepper beard- he's always there), the Brewmaster, and just ask him about his beer. You will see a passion like you read about spread across his face and he will tell you anything you want to know! Lotsa great music acts come thru. Thursday night bluegrass jam is my favorite night of the week. During the warmer months, the Hopyard out back with a dozen tables, covered stage and wood fired pizza oven keeps the place hopping. If you're looking for a quiet bar, this isn't it. It's not rowdy AT ALL, very chill welcoming vibe, but the concrete, beam and block that gives it the unique cozy industrial chic aesthetic makes it an echo chamber - particularly in the two additional rooms. When it's crowded, I bring earplugs to muffle the scraping of chairs (seriously). In the main bar there are mostly small round high tops and a few low large tables where you can have a quiet conversation. There is a quiet side lounge with a Sherlock Holmes' library feel to it with a satellite bar and comfy chairs but it is not always open. It is often rented out for events. The prices are very reasonable and the service is good. As it is a bar, you order and pay at the bar, pick up your drinks and carry a number on a stick to your table where your food will be delivered. Not quickly. But it will be hot and worth the wait! Forgive the lengthiness of this review but this has been my favorite bar for about five years now and I promised Erin like three years ago I would give an honest Foodie's review. Wow! Felt the good vibes at the GearHouse Brewing. Spacious area for parking. Even though the restaurant looked packed, parking wasn't cramped. Parking in front and back. GearHouse offered inside and outside dining. The ambiance was fun! People chatted, laughed and ate. We ordered our food and sat outside. Servers were very attentive. Awesome brunch experience! We had the huevos rancheros and breakfast tacos (chorizo) with chorizo hash. Very delicious! There were more items on the menu we wanted to try. Stopped in from a recommendation from a friend & glad that we did!! We did a flight of their sour beers: Tropical Taste Sour, Don't Cry Joe!, Solidago Shandy, Smashing Pumpkins & we all agreed that the Shandy was the best. (3 Stars = A-OK) So I still haven't found a beer I enjoy here, but now they have bunch and I checked that out. I kept hearing, "it's amazing" and "omg it's soooooo good" and "omg gearhouse has brunch - it's awesome!". I'm so tired of the words "amazing" and "awesome"...there is NOTHING wrong with something just being "good" or "okay". With further discussion, it was said to me that GH is just okay, but it's the only place in town that offers "brunch" so that's what makes is amazing...(There are plenty of breakfast places in the area, but I think people are looking for something trendy). With that said, Gearhouse Brunch is good. I ordered the chicken and waffles with "hash brownS". I had a little issue with the menu because on the "sides" section it says "hash brownS". Personally, when I think hash brownS I think shredded potato...not a pre-frozen potato patty that I can fry myself. So it was a hash brown patty like McDonald's rather than shredded hash browns. The chicken was the best part of the meal. Crispy, juicy, and flavorful. They nailed it. The waffle was so bland. It looked so promising! The texture was very airy on the inside with some crispiness on the outside. There was no depth to it. Chicken and Waffle is sweet and savory dish..there was no sweet. The waffle was lacking in complimenting the delicious chicken. The hash brown...I'm not discussing that... -_- The Chicken and Waffles were drizzled in what tasted like Frank's Red Hot Sauce with Maple Syrup?.. I think I would have preferred this on the side...or maybe a whole different sauce entirely....like...a maple honey mustard sauce. Again, I thought the waffle needed help - so much potential though! My friend ordered the French toast. It was 3 pieces of baguette with some soggy bacon on the side. This was $9. I felt it was missing something. Like Fruit or maybe a special like a "free" mimosa with 3 pieces of baguette bread and bacon for $9. I did not think it was worth $9. Should've been $6-$7. The bloody Mary was alright. $8 was pretty steep. Service was very slow. I don't think they had enough staff to handle the brunch rush. Although service was slow, it was very friendly! Our bartender was energetic and never skipped a beat. He was great. I'm still unsure if I wait in line for brunch or sit down. I saw people doing both. Someone recommended the $14 Grant Street Nasty so I'll have to try that next time. For $14, I'm hoping it's filling and delicious. read more

A group of us were in the area from out of town for an event and chose to try this place out. Atmosphere is neat, a little confusing at first as you have to stand in line, order then get seated. When you order you have to choose the tip amount from 20%, 25%, 30%...given the atmosphere I chose 25% which I later regretted. The Food was great, but the service was nonexistent, Our meals came out and we had to ask for Ketchup, then napkins, then utensils and we never saw a waitress again...nobody checked on us, we had to go chase down our own refills and water when wanted...really NO service aside from bringing the food out and you pick up your drink at the end of the bar before you seat yourself. I'm not one to leave negative reviews but if you are going to ask for tips in that range prior to the meal then there should at least some form of service. We should have left impressed with an enjoyable experience but instead we left commenting the food was good, but the terrible service made us all regret tipping at all. The potential is there for a fantastic place to eat and gather for a drink, but the lack of service left us very disappointed. read more

Beer is good but management is horrible! we had a large group that was apparently a little loud and the co-owner (glorified manager) said to one of our friends I will give you all a 4 pack to leave! lol who does this! I contacted them on FB messinger and they still backed up the response. there are better ways to address this situation and if this is the best way to address this situation you don't deserve my business. I've been here a few times and enjoyed myself but one bad experience can last a life time. there are plenty of better breweries out there and that's where we will be visiting. enjoy treating people like trash. read more

We stopped in here about 6pm on Black Friday before meeting for dinner somewhere else. The exterior gives no indication of what is inside. The building must be a repurposed building from the Penn Central RR days. It is located next to an old RR roundhouse that has also been repurposed. Walking through an initial hallway and you open the door to a lively space. There were lots of people inside (the bar area was totally full) and there were people throughout at tabletops. We each ordered a drink and wandered around. The place is much bigger than it appears and has a very cool vibe. There are assorted tabletop games and a large shuffleboard table. There are large glass garage doors which allow you to view the brewery area. There is also a garage door that opens to a patio. They offer a limited food menu. This was a really cool experience, nice addition to the area, and we will be back! read more

This place was recommended by a few different people so we decided to check it out. Really cool brewery and a lot larger than we thought. They had 3 sections of seating outside and lots of seating inside. Almost every table was taken so it's obviously a popular place! We happened to be there on "tap takeover" day so they only had two of their own beers available (they had approximately 10-12 choices total). My husband chose their Weissen which was dark in color but light in flavor. It was really good. They sold food, although we didn't eat so I can't comment on the food. I did notice that there was a food truck parked outside which I thought was interesting since they sold food. We would definitely go back to try their beer if we're in the area. read more

Update summer of 2019: GearHouse is still a great place to go. The outdoor seating may not have much in the way of a view, but they did what they could to make it inviting and it's not bad. They have some tasty beers and fun beer cocktails if you're into those. Food menu seems to change a lot. Food is more on the gourmet side (with a gourmet price tag) but is made well and presented well. Pretzels and beer cheese are the best. Service has always been great. Smiles, warm and welcoming, helpful if you have questions. Even when they're slammed busy they try to give each customer personalized, good service. We keep going back to try new beers (or have an old favorite) and enjoy a nice evening in a good atmosphere. read more

Unfortunate disappointing food review for GH. 2 orders of chicken tacos were unseasoned and contained inedible tough parts of chicken. 4 small tacos not worth the investment. 1 cheeseburger (2 patties) was clearly pre-formed patties with no seasoning. We went to dinner at GearHouse last night & it was great! In fact, we weren't surprised at all because the amazing Josh Fidler now works here & he's the BEST CHEF anywhere! We were huge fans of Fidler's when it was in Biglerville, & we're thrilled that he's now at GearHouse. For our appetizer, we had the steamed buns with pork belly. They were delicious! We also have nothing but our highest praise for the pappardelle. It was terrific. The service was excellent as well. I'd visited the GearHouse soon after they'd opened and wasn't very impressed. I'd heard good things recently, so thought I would check it out again. The brewery is in a great location with a large parking lot. There is plenty of room indoors (three seating areas) as well as outdoor seating. Moving on to the beer - the GearHouse has numerous beers on tap and a style of beer that appeals to almost anyone. They offer IPAs, Lagers, ales, etc. We sampled a few beers and while they were good they weren't overly impressive. Each beer matched the style and description very well but there wasn't a single beer that "wowed" me. The GearHouse also offers food but we didn't have any.
