Stopped in with my daughter for lunch yesterday while in town for a convention. If you're a civil war buff you will love the decor. An old field hospital turned into a distillery/brewery/restaurant. Only one staff member that we saw the whole time doing everything and she absolutely killed it. My daughter had the kids pizza. I got the chilli, brat and fries along with the house made root beer. We really enjoyed it here and definitely need to come back. Picked up a pint glass to add to the collection at home.

Super cool building being that it is an old Civil War Hospital. I had hoped for more history inside the establishment because of the building itself....however the floors were probably my favorite part. We did a flight of beer to taste a variety. They were all good and drinkable. Nothing I would write home about, but also no complaints. Food was decent for their cooking capabilities which does not include a formal kitchen, rather a panini machine and microwave. Regardless, the sausage platter, chicken and cheese quesadilla and 3 cheese grilled cheese sandwich were enjoyed by all. Decent stop for the middle of a Saturday afternoon.

We visited Battlefield Brew Works on a Friday night to celebrate two birthdays! We arrived around 5:30 and there was plenty of seating! I have to start with how wonderful the staff is. Every person we encountered was kind, helpful, and went out of their way to help us celebrate. I drank several cocktails from their menu, while others I was with enjoyed the beer flights. The cocktails were good, but a little sweeter than I prefer and definitely light on the alcohol. Next time I'll stick to the beer, which I did get to try and really enjoyed. They're now offering food. We tried the cold cut Italian sun and the fajita wrap, both of which were good. We also added on a side of fries and cheese sauce that didn't disappoint. I'd like to see them continue to expand the menu. But for beer and service, I'll definitely be back!

Quaint location with a nice rustic feel. Went on a Saturday and I was surprised that there only 2 people pouring beer. The line moved quite slowly. The beer was decent. They do sell food, which you pay for separate from the beer. The food was just ok. We would go back again, but we would go out of our way for it.

Because we were going out to dinner in a couple hours we just shared an appetizer and ordered flights. We ordered the large pretzel with pub cheese and it was really great. Pretzel seemed like it was made with fresh dough and it the buttery, saltiness just made it exactly what we wanted. I felt bad for the cooks and bartenders as the place was super busy, but it was a really fun vibe, and great service for how packed they were. The beers were great: I had the: -Incessant Luminescence (American Stout) -Portergeist -Sunglow - Hefeweizen -Jamba Blueberry Pumpkin Swirl sour Wifey had the: -Gettys Brau - Pilsner -Hop Hat - IPA -Dead Man Walking - Hazy IPA -My nickname in high school - Citrus IPA Ok, to be fair, the Jamba Blueberry Pumpkin Swirl sour was weird...it was more like a smoothie than a beer so the texture was odd, but the flavor was fun. I hate IPAs so I can't speak to them, but Wifey loved them. Overall- fun place, great vibe, very good beers and a great pretzel appetizer. I'd come back the next time we are out in Gettysburg.

My uncle ordered a cup of chili to start. It was served hot which is always a bonus. Not too spicy even though it had a spice label next to it on the menu. The presentation was nice as it's served with 4 tortilla chips. My Aunt opted for the babyback ribs served with fries. My uncle's main dish was the soft shell crab tacos while I went with the brisket mac and cheese and side Caesar salad. These items, with exception of the salad, were on a separate menu, likely seasonal. The servings are large (even the side salad)! I barely put a dent in my Mac and cheese. I was a little disappointed that the brisket that was "folded" within my MAC and cheese was playing Hide-and-seek. I would prefer more protein in that dish based on the quantity of pasta. The salad was well-dressed. At most restaurants I have to add caesar dressing to the salads. I washed it down with a sweet tea while my Uncle tried the White Birch beer. My aunt thought the baby back ribs were dry, and had a bit too much sauce on it. It would have been nice to have less sauce on the ribs, with additional sauce on the side. My uncle did not think the soft shell crab tacos were all that (although novel), which is probably why he ordered. It had more batter on it, and one can barely taste the crab. He said he would not order it again. As residents they will not go back to this restaurant anytime soon, and can't really recommend it unless someone just wants to try give it a try. I'll have to try the root beer on my next visit. Our waiter was very attentive and the volume in the restaurant was reasonable enough to have table conversations. I definitely recommend stopping at one of these locations if you're visiting or passing through.

And if I wanted that unimaginative vibe, I'd just go to the Eagles. We sat in a booth, but the bar area looked far more inviting--as long as you're facing forward and ignoring the afterthought that is the rest of the seating. The layout just doesn't work. I also didn't see any of the familiar faces from the original location, which was discouraging and made the place feel even less like the Sign of the Horse I remembered. When you walk in, if anyone is at the host stand, they grab a carafe of water from a cooler and lead you to your table... but no glasses. Are customers supposed to pass the carafe around communally? It was awkward and off-putting. The food was fine, but nothing special--and certainly not good enough to make up for the atmosphere. Overall, this move stripped away everything that made the place enjoyable. I won't be back.

They have wine, canned sodas, and water in a fridge, plus those fun machines with a variety of fruit crushes and even basic full-bar cocktail offerings. To get a drink, you simply order at the long bar or the side window. For those who don't drink alcohol, they also have a fun dirty soda bar to the right of the brewery inside the attached shop, Lucy's Little Red Wagon, where you place separate drink orders. Lucy's is an attraction in and of itself! You can bring your drink inside and browse the cute clothes, stylish jewelry, local snacks, and unique gifts. They have a packed event schedule with live bands, line dancing, trivia nights, cornhole, and all sorts of fun activities. We've met friends here, brought our teenage kids, hosted out-of-town guests, met coworkers after work, and always see plenty of young children running around. They're dog-friendly too!
