Directed only to their spirits -ONLY 5 stars is not enough! We prefer higher proof spirits which are more flavorful and smoother than their lower proof counterparts. BOTH BBW Rye and Bourbon were a delightful surprise at first taste, and they will remain our standard after dinner drinks. They are complex, smooth, and have excellent character. Their taste is very forward unlike many of their high end counterparts. These spirits also have an unexpected RICHNESS which is rare for most Rye and Bourbon. read more

Stopped in with my daughter for lunch yesterday while in town for a convention. If you're a civil war buff you will love the decor. An old field hospital turned into a distillery/brewery/restaurant. Only one staff member that we saw the whole time doing everything and she absolutely killed it. My daughter had the kids pizza. I got the chilli, brat and fries along with the house made root beer. Super cool building being that it is an old Civil War Hospital. I had hoped for more history inside the establishment because of the building itself....however the floors were probably my favorite part. We did a flight of beer to taste a variety. They were all good and drinkable. Nothing I would write home about, but also no complaints. Food was decent for their cooking capabilities which does not include a formal kitchen, rather a panini machine and microwave. We visited Battlefield Brew Works on a Friday night to celebrate two birthdays! We arrived around 5:30 and there was plenty of seating! I have to start with how wonderful the staff is. Every person we encountered was kind, helpful, and went out of their way to help us celebrate. I drank several cocktails from their menu, while others I was with enjoyed the beer flights. The cocktails were good, but a little sweeter than I prefer and definitely light on the alcohol. Next time I'll stick to the beer, which I did get to try and really enjoyed. They're now offering food. We tried the cold cut Italian sun and the fajita wrap, both of which were good. We also added on a side of fries and cheese sauce that didn't disappoint. I'd like to see them continue to expand the menu. But for beer and service, I'll definitely be back! read more

We came to Battlefield Brew Works for lunch one day while we were in town for a steampunk convention. It's a charming old building, and the perfect atmosphere to sit and enjoy a good beer. And there is a lot of good beer here. They have a lot of different styles to choose from, and we got a selection. I was most impressed by their Pale Ale. Mostly impressed because it was honestly an ale. Most breweries are in love with IPAs so even their regular ales taste like an overly flowery mess, but this ale was perfect. There is an attached Italian place that you can order food from, and they have a stage for music. I imagine they do a lot of community outreach here. read more

Arrived early for a conference and decided to try a sampler here around 4:30 PM. With a good friend, and we shared a taster of all nine beers! Super friendly servers. Wasn't too busy so they really explained the history of the building, their beers, their distilled spirits, their upcoming band events. I liked their chocolate raspberry stout and their IPA and pale ale--many interesting beers. We also had the chance to taste their chocolate chili liqueur--May need to return to get a bottle. Gettysburg is all ice and it was even special to snap a photo of sun setting through icy branches in their back parking lot. A really large brewery/distillery with lots of room for dancing and larger groups. But as a pair of friends there on a quiet and icy cold afternoon, we really enjoyed Battlefield. The location and atmosphere were great. Easy parking, lovely outside seating area, large tables inside. There was minimal rustic decor, giving an open vibe. It was beautiful to hang out within, playing cards while drinking.....but the beer was meh so overall experience was bleg. We came for the groupon: one empty growler, one pint glass to go, and a $30 credit. I got a flight of the cream ale, cherry cream ale, IPA, and stout. I felt the beer was plain, with a warm taste. Nothing was super impressive; we didn't even want to fill our growler with the credit-so we just opted for the most tolerable drink and got a glass each. We were planning on eating here, but I noticed there wasn't a real kitchen, just a microwave and a panini press-so we decided to wait. Ok, so off the bat I'll say that some of my remarks may ruffle some feathers so I'll try and be as clinical in my assessment as I can. I'm in the industry, run restaurants, so I'm trying to be respectful of the fact that running a restaurant during covid sucks. With that being said, I'll start with the good. -food was great (Wing sauces are bangin) -customer service was friendly -location is cool if you're a history buff. And now, the bad: 1. the beer was all flat and just not very good across the board. Cocktails were the same, with the exception of the riff of a painkiller which I liked. The dark and stormy just tasted like ginger ale. We ordered some of the house made rum, which in itself was good, but is a light rum with a smooth finish and very little spice...not a great choice for a dark and stormy. 2. this place very obviously attracts a very "certain" type of clientele with obvious political leanings...I get it, and I'm not trying to make this political, but: -none of the staff were wearing masks. It's a law. Not all your customers disagree with wearing masks so it's just good policy, and the law, to do so. Additionally, witnessed groups of customers coming in unmasked and the bartender / manager didn't seem interested in telling them to mask up. I had covid. It's real. Take it seriously. It's not fun. Both my partner and I are still struggling with health repercussions from it. - I'm not here to debate the 2nd amendment, my family all owns, but it's not good business to have a pistol hanging out of the back pocket of your jeans while you're pouring beer...there's a lot there. Even more is the fact that a carrying customer decided to pull out his pistol to show you....so now you have two people hanging out with guns in reach of people they don't know who all have been drinking. Not a good look. Not everyone is cool with that. In summary: Won't be back. It's ok to believe in what you believe in and hold tru to those values while running a responsible business. This was just sloppy. If you want to have a gun at the bar: keep it under the bar. You don't believe in masks: cool, but respect the law and respect that if you want to run a responsible business that you should just suck it up and follow the rules. You can get fined / lose your licenses if you're reported so from that perspective, it's just good business And please work on those recipes. I had a Groupon i bought for a bday gift. 2 Growlers and $30 credit for food. Wasn't expecting much. Looks like they are still coming up with decor. We got there when it opened. It was a little chilly before they lit all the gas stoves. So this is limited BBQ menu. I got a pork filled grilled cheese and loved it. It came to the table immediately. Also ordered was a pork etc Quesadilla the only pork filled on menu, with other fixings involved that i forget. This was amazing and large! The corn lime cheese and chicken filled quesadilla was just good. Pork sandwich was great and beer selections great. They have a small kitchen work station behind the beer taps. Idk how this works for big crowds but our food was up immediately. Great atmosphere. Idk how they make money on the Groupon but glad we got it!!! My boyfriend and I went to this place 2 years ago on a trip and really enjoyed the chill ambience, the history, the staff and most of all the beers. So when we planned to go to Gettysburg this past weekend, of course this place was on our list of stops to make. However, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. I still love the historical significance of the place as it used to be a confederate hospital and the ambience of the decorations was still there as we left it. However, it felt very cold in there as the blond lady was not that friendly and yelled at us to order at the bar when we were still deciding our order. We found out that they do not brew their own beer anymore to focus on distillery but had a few flat selections of craft beer. We hardly could drink the pours they were so flat. Food was ok as we ordered the Buffalo chicken raviolis which looked liked empanadas. Overall it was just cold and the experience left us full of disappointment as 2 years ago I would have given this place a 5 star rating. Very Sad indeed. read more

Went back today for the first time in years, thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt since their beer was no good when we were there about 5 years ago. Sad to say that they still disappointed. The "bartender" could not answer my questions about the beer and had no answers for a wine recommendation for my wife. I sampled two beers, one was a "mango IPA" the other? I'm not quite sure about. Unfortunately the best part of going to Battlefield Brew Works is the location/atmosphere. It is an old civil war hospital...very minimal decor. Very cool to be in. My girlfriend and I came here as part of the Adams County Pour Tour- we each got a flight of beer to taste. Each pour was worse than the next. My friend said, "It left a slinky taste in my mouth as if the ghosts were still there." We each drank one sample and left all the rest. If you are a craft beer lover, do yourself a favor and skip this place. I heard the spirits are better so maybe give those a try. They don't have a kitchen. Beer/Spirits lovers and history buffs will adore Battlefield Brew Works, although the beer may be a bit strong for casual beer fans. The most interesting part of Battlefield Brew Works is the rich history of the property. The old barn that houses the brewery was built in 1848 and served as a Confederate field hospital, treating over 1300 wounded confederate soldiers during the Battle of Gettysburg. So if you're a history buff that loves alcohol, this will pretty much be heaven on earth for you. The barn maintains its rustic charm with modern conveniences, such as heating and indoor plumbing. You order at the bar and sit at any of the several tables, preferably in view of the two widescreen TVs. Even on a Saturday at noon during the slow season, the barn filled up fairly quickly. The beer list is very interesting to say the least. It includes the always reliable Lincoln Lager (4.6% ABV), a light German Pilsner lager, the Red Circe Ale (5.2% ABV), a malty red ale whose proceeds go to injured Special Operations soldiers, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Lager (5% ABV), which tastes exactly as the name suggests, the deep Double Dark Chocolate Bock (8.2% ABV), the Barrel Aged Imperial Stout (12% ABV). These are all rich hardy drinks - beer lovers will rejoice at the bold complex flavors. The ABV for some of these will knock you off your feet, as the tasting flight features very generous pours. It was a bit too high for my tastes, as they tasted like straight liquor than beer. I didn't even get a chance to try any of the distillery options! In order to combat my girlfriend's and I sudden inebriation, we ordered the Hardwood Smoked Pulled Pork and the smoked Chicken BBQ Sandwich with Cole Slaw and Potato Salad on the side. The food options here are simple, varied, and very much pub food, but I have to admit both sandwiches were very tasty, especially the pulled pork, which I highly recommend. We also ordered the Chips & Pretzels, which is a very very large basket of kettle chips and hard pretzels. It would be perfect for four or more people but is way too much for two. Overall, Battlefield Brew Works is worth the short trip outside of town for a few pints. The unique brews and spirits, along with good pub food and historical ambience, will appeal to most people. Just be careful with those ABVs. read more

The barn has rough hewn floors, and a hearth that has a plaque honoring this establishment as a Confederate Field Hospital during the battle. The history lesson is just the first alluring component of Battlefield Brew Works. They brew a handful of craft beers that are fantastic...Lincoln Lager (Pilsner) was my favorite - and the porter, yum. Battlefield Brew Works also has a very creative and delicious menu! Visiting family and it was surprising to see that so many breweries have popped up since we were in town last. Battlefield Brew Works is just around the corner from my sister's home so we ventured in with my mother and girlfriend after galavanting around Gettysburg for the afternoon. The business hours are shortened throughout the week so make sure to check their business details! On a Thursday they opened at 4pm and we walked right in just after opening. Everyone was so nice and friendly and very welcoming and it is such a beautiful venue! We ordered an 8 count beer flight to sample as almost the entire lot they offer. 6oz pours were plenty for three to share! The beers were fabulous and the most intriguing were the Barrel Aged Imperial Stout (my favorite) and Rum Barrel Aged Imperial Pumpkin Nitro. Definitely beers worth trying, especially if you love the taste of rum and/or whisky. Other selections we picked for our flight were the Chocolate Peanut Butter Lager, Double Dark Chocolate Bock, Sour Red Ale, and Red Ale, Fishing Church IPA, and Black IPA. Each one had amazing qualities and it was definitely worth the stop in! Tonight also was the beginning of Gettysburg Rocks and they were the kick off venue for the weekend festival among many different local bars. Slightly uneven floors and wood are part of the charm and I could see sitting here for an entire afternoon. The beer was decent. A good mix of styles and solid beers rather than super experimental. The food list wasn't extensive but it was also solid. I had a BBQ grilled cheese and it went nicely with my tasting. Lastly everyone was friendly. We unknowingly stopped in while they were prepping for their anniversary party and while it wasn't busy yet everyone was in a good mood, happy to answer questions, and just nice.
