My husband and I wanted to go somewhere new for us here in Carlisle and decided to try Desperate Times as the menu sounded good and cider was advertised. We arrived around 7:40pm for a late dinner. We got a great table in the corner by the window. Our server was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable of the menu. We ordered the original cider & the cranberry cider to try. They were okay, but both had an aftertaste of beer. I expected more of an apple base to them. That was a bit disappointing for us. We were very impressed with the German fair on the menu and both ordered a Paddy Wagon. The different sausages were excellent! The sauerkraut and potato salad were delicious. I only wish we got bigger portions! Big fans of the German mustard. Could have used more of that as well. Highly recommend the food here! Will have to try different drinks next time. We look forward to returning.

A good brewery serving prepared to order bar fare. Right off a main road and outside the fairgrounds. The location is easy to find and there is plenty of parking. The interior is bright and staff is ready to accommodate different size parties. Menu includes detailed description of the brews and food. The brews are good and different choices available for different tastes. Tried the pretzel, its huge and shareable with different dips offered. Schnitzel sandwich was a good portion and sides complimented it well. Recommend for sure.

This is a very good brewery that not only features many German style beers, but also offers German style food on its menu: large baked soft pretzels, German potato salad, German sauerkraut and a good variety of German sausages. We are talking knockwurst, bratwurst, Nurnbergerwurst, beer brats and other German sausages that can all be topped with German mustard. They also offer dessert pretzels. Not only is the food excellent, but the beer is also. On this visit we ordered Honest Lawbreaker Stout (oatmeal), Officer Kinky Thompson pale ale and Rauchbier. A very good Saturday evening out.

In a pandemic, Desperate Times is the place to go. What can't you say about place with beer and giant pretzels. Plenty of room on the inside, a bier garden on the outside... Not necessarily on the menu, but if you like the Schwarzbier, try the Schwarzbier Float! Food is delicious, and the staff is friendly. If you're there on Thursday, they got Trivia - so dust off that bank of useless information.

Popped in after the Ford show. Neat little place, plenty of parking. The menu is decent. We ordered the large pretzel, it was fresh and hot. The cheese dip had a nice little kick, didn't care for the mustard. I ordered the "Capone" - it was a Cuban Sandwich and I totally recommend it - however, they should have called it "Scarface"... My friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich, not the greatest. The pork and bun tasted microwaved with the bun also being stale. Scrapped the pork off and ate it, left the bun. :-(

3.5 stars. Walked into a huge room with lots of seating and large windows. It didn't really feel warm and cozy. Trivia was going on so there were a good amount of people there. Service was friendly and fairly quick. I got a flight and enjoyed the beers especially the pumpkin one and the porter. Husband didn't particularly like the ambiance here but thought the beers were good. I liked how the flights were presented in a circle. We've been to a lot of breweries and this one doesn't particularly stand out. It's somewhere in the middle of the road, so I think it's a perfect 3.5 star place.

Ya'll! Can't say enough great things about this place! We were looking for a pit stop to refuel (food wise) and found this gem right off 81. The beer was delicious! Dave the bartender was both timely, generous, and very helpful! Then there was the grub! Holy cow! Can I say delicious. I had a schnitzel sandwich in which the bun was simply a hat-sized-suggestion. It was tender and tasteful. My boyfriend got a cuban sandwich which he said was pure divinity (I was too busy with my mammoth schnitzel situation to try it!). So - in summation - go. Just go. And try the German Weizen!!!!

Food was ok, food was cold when we received. Wait time was over an hour. Only saw waiter twice during the visit.

More kind and accommodating on the phone than just about any restaurant I've ever called. We came in like a half hour early, over the course of 20 minutes, cause we were traveling in multiple vehicles from ways away... I called ahead, but they said it was no problem at all. They were super helpful, I got drinks started while the rest of the party arrived. Ordered a bunch of appetizers... Mozzarella, sweet potato, waffle, fries, calamari... With like three different dipping sauces. Each of those was fantastic. Folks ordered burgers, chicken, cheesesteaks, traditional fair, like cottage pie, etc. Quantities were massive. Food was tasty. Many to go boxes were provided. The desserts were a surprise... I got my bread pudding to go. And then a few people got the lava cake and shared it. Great beer selection. Great cocktail selection. Great music on the speakers... At least I thought so, the Young'ns weren't as impressed with the sing-along Classics. Our server was beyond helpful, responsive, kind, accommodating,; probably one of the best I've ever had... Is that possible? Big party, I didn't check the details on the check... and the large party tip was included already. So I gave her too much cash for the tip, she stopped me on the way out and wanted to make sure I didn't screw up... Which I did. So she returned a couple bucks. But she earned every every bit for a tip yesterday.

These places some excellent beer. But they also are restaurants. So, maybe beer is a draw in or the food at times. So with that, Drunk Monkey is a pure brewery. They make, sell, distribute, and promote their own product. As far as promoting, I am not sure they need to do much work as the product has really gotten some attention at the street level. I have seen the main beer showing up at local restaurants the last year. There has also been solid word of mouth. Some of their beers are even winning awards. So it didn't take much convincing from a coworker to get me there before our Nittany Lions came on. The brewery, itself, is a tiny place tucked into an old industrial park that use to be home to one of the largest textile mills in the country. Long abandoned, different smaller businesses now call the park home. One of the more sustained businesses is Fisher's bee farm. That brings us to the brewery. The owner of the bee farm decided to start a brewery near his business. Once finding the brewery, you notice that it is a whole in the wall kinda place. But once entering, the place is organized, clean, and the folks are extremely warm and friendly. Everything is clearly marked. Beer prices are payed out in a sheet on the wall. There is a merchandise rack clearly marked. There are cases clearly marked for type. You can tell this is a place where the people love and care about their beer. The lady manning the shop was knowledgable and friendly. She gave us a preview of the beers and described each one as we taste tested the taps. She then offered us a tour of the small brewery which we jumped on. This definitely plussed the experience and ultimately earned that fifth star. We learned that this particular young lady also hand labels, preps, and fills the bottles. So she does more than just look pretty selling the beer. Now for the beer. I really can't remember all the particular names of the beer. But I had a few favorites. In particular, the German wheat beer was fantastic. That is what I got my growler filled with. Some of the other beers that tasted great, Kraken and one named Mistress or something to that effect. Fittingly, the mistress had a tap handle in the shape of a ship figure head. Speaking of which, all the beers have nautical names based on the folklore of Captain Jack which many local landmarks are named. I have nothing negative to say about Drunk Monkey. They are in an obscure location. The place is small and doesn't look like much from the outside. But like most really great businesses, it is about the knowledge of the people behind the business. Drunk Monkey has plenty of that! If you are in the area on a Wednesday or Saturday, stop in for a taste.

Fenced in outdoor space, corn hole, food, drinks, live music, and recommended by a friend. And technically it had all of those things! And yet somehow, those things were generally only okay. First, music was inside and it was incredibly loud. So we go outside which was just.... A mess. Like, we got mustard on our clothes from an unclean table; food and napkin scraps all stuck in the grass everywhere you looked. Then, the service outside is through a window, which in itself is no problem. The issue is that it was single server on a Friday night and the line took a really long time. The food and drinks we did get, we enjoyed. Based on the other factors, I am unsure that I would make it a point to stop here when back in the area.
