I really love this spot! I love the authenticity of the food, but how you can Americanize it. It is in a great location right on 6th street, but not in any alleyways or the like, and is next to other food trucks. I feel safe eating here alone. My only complaint is that there is only one guy that takes orders, but also cooks. So not only are you waiting 10-20 mins to place an order, sometimes he forgets. I've ordered, paid, and still waited 40 mins because he forgot. When I did get my meal, I was satisfied, but for a food truck that's a long wait! Also, because he takes orders and payments, he touches credit cards and cash, then goes to cook not washing his hands in between. There's just a germ concern there. This is a food truck, so can't expect much, but still something to note. Great food and great environment, so I will be back many times in the futhre, just with hand sanitizer. read more

We like Mediterranean food a LOT, so we've tried most of the places in town. This place is by far the best, hands down. The falafel plate, the beef shawarma over rice, the dolmas, all flavorful, perfect and delicious. And another thing- the food is CONSISTENT. Jasmine rice, spiced lamb, garbanzo beans, lettuce, tomato, tatziki sauce and hot sauce. It must be over a pound of food and it's like $8. I've been to most of the highly reviewed Halal/Mediterranean places on Yelp in Central Austin, and I have to say this is my favorite. The flavors in the lamb/beef shawarma are so deep and rich, with a nice tangy sauce and perfect amount of spice (if you want it). All for $6! Went yesterday, and it was the best Halal I've ever had in my whole life. It was so comforting, and the falafel was perfect. Glad I got two different meals, I tried the falafel and the lamb! The employees are super friendly and helpful! Am I going to get some more falafel tonight? Quite possibly... this might be my new obsession. It's super convenient to get to if you are walking, or coming from a bar on 6th. No wonder this place has a 5 star rating. They deserve it! Good food, people, and location! I've been here twice so far. The owner works by himself and he's very efficient for a 1-person team. The food is always well seasoned and tender. Oh my.. I'm addicted. The lamb gyro is out of this world, from the cool minty tzatziki and ripe red tomato and cucumber/romaine to the perfectly spiced lamb (something special in there a tiny hint of cinnamon) topped with that delicious hot sauce, all wrapped in a fresh soft pita, has got me completely in love. I literally wake up craving halal time, my girlfriend thinks I'm a little too obsessed- I don't see how that could be a problem! To top this off I can't explain how nice our man is there, he works his butt off to provide such great tasting food and a great experience- nicest guy we've met in a long time! I haven't had a better felafel wrap anywhere! It's not like I've been to Turkey or Greece or anywhere else that's originated the cuisine... yet, but I was so impressed. The two-person food truck is churning out some amazing food and I'll surely be back when I'm hanging out at the east side clubs and bars. It's across the street from the Volstead and conveniently parked near 3 or 4 other trucks, so you can bring your whole crew and everyone can find something that works for them. The felafel was perfectly cooked and full of spice flavors to complement the pita and chickpeas, but the real winner was the tzatziki sauce! It was creamy and tangy with a bit of dill that set off the flavor pop for the veggies inside. Fresh tomatoes, lettuce, and cucumbers with something pickled (slice beets!?) made for a crunch inside. The added hummus, hot sauce, and tahini rounded everything out and then I had a secret fry added it, which was so good, I'm gonna add fries to the order next time. And also a side of hummus! I was eating Sam's cooking when he worked at a different Greek chain, which I still love... But his recipe is different. His chicken wrap has more stuff in it, and it's actually a very unique recipe. I haven't eaten green olives in years, but he employs them in a way that adds a nice punch, without being too overbearing. The owner is a nice guy, and I look forward to trying his other dishes.
