I've enjoyed their wrap and chicken over rice several times for a quick to-go lunch. The food is always tasty and the romaine lettuce is always freshly crisp. The flavorful balance of spice, meat, veggie, yogurt and rice is why it becomes my favorite. This is one of the best Halal food truck in Austin. I've discovered this trailer in the neighborhood and have started to frequent this place. The hummus is good (although there never seems to be enough pita bread), and I really like the falafels (perfectly round discs of deliciousness without feeling oily and greasy). I haven't ventured into other dishes - I tend to gravitate to the #4 (combo gyro and chicken on rice with some lettuce and cucumbers). White sauce and spicy red to boot (it's spicy but not unbearably so - could be spicier). Really enjoy this stuff (although once I get about 80% of the way through the meal, there's a bit of oiliness that hits me - although a beer would really cut through it and help out). There are a couple of picnic benches that you can use if you're eating there. Although I've seen people in the winter time eat in their car as well. I've also noticed a lot of delivery to go orders (UberEats?). When you order it's usually about 10-15 minutes before you get your food - so if you're in a hurry call ahead because they will take orders over the phone. read more

Their lamb shawarma rice plate is currently my favorite meal in Austin. The combo between their white sauce, the tasty rice, and crisp lettuce and tomatoes are completely irresistible to me. It's not greasy, and super delicious. The guys in the cart are very chill. Once the roasting meat was literally on fire on one end, and they never blinked an eye. The food here is absolutely phenomenal and all is halal as the name would suggest. Words cannot describe the flavors of the Chicken Falafel Gyro, you will have to try it yourself. The prices here are also really solid! I have only been to Halal Hub maybe three times, but each time the food is made and handed out extremely quickly. I don't see too many people eating on location, but I have done it before and I recommend everyone try it, even if they are an at-home eater. If you decide to eat on location you will enjoy the smell of fresh falafel from the truck as you eat falafel yourself. I think if you enjoy mediterranean food or good food in general, you should definitely try this place out. read more

GOT MY ORDER WRONG AND REFUSED TO REFUND ME!! I ordered a falafel and chicken plate. When I got home, I opened the box to find they had given me chicken and lamb... I don't eat lamb, so I drove all the way back and told them they "got my order wrong and would like my correct order". They shrugged and asked "what I had originally ordered". I told them, they shrugged again and then said "5 min". No apology, no refund, nothing. I figured, hey maybe this one will be replaced for free... NOPE! He pulls the bag up to the counter and asks me to pay the total. When I told them I shouldn't have to purchase a replacement since they got my order wrong originally, he said "I put extra chicken in this one". -- A few pieces of extra chicken doesn't offset the cost of an entire meal I regrettably paid the total cause I was hungry and not in the mood to argue further. The food itself was fine, but nothing special. Even if it was good, the customer service alone was enough to keep me from ever going again. Every single time I order food from Halal Gurus it's the same high quality and the flavor just knocks it out of the park. Since moving to Austin 3 months ago, we've ordered 7 times because we crave the food so much. Amazing white sauce, doesn't feel greasy like some other halal places, and great customer service. They always accept my requests to add or take away ingredients without question and are so fast and nice. The taste just cant be beat. If you've ever had Halal Guys, you can imagine the style of Halal they serve here, except I prefer the quality at Halal Gurus. Coming from Los Angeles, I never thought I'd crave food here more than in LA, but Halal Gurus is that place for me. read more

This is hands down the best Mediterranean food truck in south Austin. It's become a staple in our household. We always order falafel to share--they're perfectly crispy and have a small hint of heat to them. Our typical order is usually lamb or beef plate over rice. Love the food here. We've gotten the combo plates twice and it's delicious. Ordering takeout through Eat24 consistently seems to be an issue though. On my side, it states ready at 6:30 and on their side it shows future order. So I get there and have to wait. I suggest ordering directly through the location if at all possible. Update- previously thought it was an eat24 problem but I've been eating at Tx Shawarma and they have zero issue with getting my order to me through the yelp app Eat24. Halal also does not post correct open and close hours. The app lets you order your food and then an hour later you get an update refunding your order because Halal isn't actually open when it says it is. Really flavorful food, so it's a shame they can't get these other details in order to provide a good experience. read more

I really expected more from a place with 4.5 stars. The pictures looked great, the rating is good, and it was pretty close to where we were staying in Austin. The food truck can be hard to miss by the gas station. So be on the look out when you're in the vicinity. The man in the front was nice enough to accommodate our order which we wanted half chicken and half falafel instead of half chicken/half gyro. However, our friend wanted the chicken and gyro wrap and he also got falafel instead of gyro in the wrap which he did not want. When he ordered he even ordered by the number with no modifications so this is kind of a weird miscommunication. The falafel is not very good. The outside is very thick and there is not much moisture. I am not really sure why they choose to serve baklava since it seems like they just pick it up from somewhere and stick it in the fridge all day. Layer by layer the baklava was just not tasting great and did not really resemble any baklava I have had before. It was an ok meal and the salad on the side is refreshing, but not something to go out of my way to eat again. read more

Really more of 3.5 This place is *almost* Halal Bros. Almost exactly the same, but the difference is quality, which is key. Seriously, I took one look and I thought they were the same. The style is IDENTICAL to Halal Bros, so of course, I inhaled it. Real question is: if I am so obsessed with Halal Bros, then why only 3.5? Answer: Flavor. Though the chicken and gyro compete, the sauce, rice, and salad however don't. The meat has that great flavor we all love, so I was disappointed with the rice lacking in flavor, both visually and tastefully. To be honest, it looks a little on the sad side. Same goes with the salad; the lettuce and tomato look like the pre-packaged kind, colorless and bland. Now for the sauce, at first taste, I thought it was da bomb, but after eating my leftovers, the white and red sauce actually taste more like ranch and the red chili sauce at Asian stores... This place has gone way downhill and its very unfortunate. I supported them all throughout the pandemic via ubereats and they are now just taking advantage on delivery orders. Portion size has been greatly decreased via shifting to more salad and less rice/meat. 70/30 has become 50/50 and please don't think your customers didn't notice. Sample size of the past 4 orders this summer confirms. Also they won't give you more than a single sauce per order no matter how many entrees you get or what you request in the comments. Taste is still amazing but Halal food anywhere near south Austin is now a lost cause. read more

3.5 rounded down. First meal of 2017. Sober. Located on 35 and 6th street but kinda in a shady spot at a gas station. Apparently they have moved to Oltorf since then but I can't confirm. I've passed this many times but usually have been closed during those times so I was excited to finally try them out! We made our way here a few hours after the start of the new year. The people working there were friendly and seemed cool. A plate is under 8 bucks and its a ton of food so you definitely get your moneys worth. It's enough to share between 2 people or can last 2 meals. We got our food but didn't want to eat there. Brought the food home and tried it out. It was okay. It looked like how I would expect but it was a bit basic for the taste buds. Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't bad. My biggest issue was that the rice was bland and the lamb meat and chopped grilled chicken were not seasoned to the extent I would have preferred. I guess they were catering to the drunk 6th street last night crowd which is fine but not what I was looking for. If this was the only place for NY style halal street food, I wouldn't complain but considering there are a whole host of options for this cuisine, I have the luxury of being a little picky. Updated: I'm kinda torn updating it to say the wait, quality and customer service have gone downhill, but it's just sad how great this place was. Yes it's busier and takes longer, but I have been there waiting to place an order and sometimes they don't even acknowledge you. So after waiting for 10 minutes in front of the trailer window and literally ignoring you, people just leave. Sad because they could use this to advantage and grow, but people are just giving up and leaving... Amazing food and I love that it doesn't take forever like at other food trucks and very reasonably priced. Quick but really good and I am super picky about my Mediterranean food. MHG: (Stares coldly, and shakes head slightly) Me: Sorry. Is the chicken on the wrap chicken breast? MHG: (After long, awkward pause and dirty look) Why do you ask this? Me: Sorry? This was my favorite until one day my frien dform it of town ordered a shawarma wrap with a special request for no onions and tomato. The server cared less and made what he liked and served it to us.
