I only went to Halal Gyro King 6 last night because it was the closest restaurant to my apartment and I was not feeling so well to make a longer trip out or to make something for myself. The main reason why this is probably going to be the last time I'll go there is NOT because of the food or the staff.
Halal Gyro King 6 took over a previous food spot, a Chinese place called Golden Flower Kitchen. I was very, very fond of it and miss it dearly. It's a childhood place I'll never get back. There's my disclaimer. Now, to the review.
Going in, it's pretty bright and might have very minimal seating. Since, I was not feeling my best, my memory is a little hazy. Per my usual meal in any kind of Halal spot I encounter, I always get a large Lamb platter with no lettuce or tomato (salad). I get it with oodles of white sauce and hot sauce on it. What I've never seen in Halal places is Boba Tea. I asked the worker who took my meal which is the one he likes/ gets. He told me the Mango. We were definitely on the same wavelength because that was the one I was thinking of getting.
It was meant to be.
When my platter was done, the worker, I wish I gotten his name, put a lot of white sauce, started to be conservative with the hot sauce until I told him I wanted more. Then, I noticed that he put fresh cilantro on it. Once again, something I've never seen before.
The Lamb platter was very delicious. The yellow rice was incredibly flavorful. The Lamb was wonderfully spiced and they give you a satisfying portion of it. The cilantro provided a freshness to the dish to cut through its richness. The white sauce was really good as was the hot sauce. I can handle its spice but some can't. It's a good rule to always get less than what you can handle and see how you feel with the end result.
The Mango Boba tea was really good and refreshing. The cat top on it is so cute!
So yeah, if you want a good platter and good Boba with decent prices or just something different from the usual burger, chicken, pizza fare, then please, give Halal Gyro King 6 a try. Also, the worker who helped me was very efficient and polite. It's also right near the 6 train line so you could get some food to go and then... go. read more
