    Rotating Chicken... stacked then grilled.
    Shoshana R.

Gyro King has been a solid place for the hand held goodness since my childhood. Not the most ascetically pleasing place showing its age and the amount volume they handle. They serve up serval menu items from pizza, burgers & fries and other on the go staples, and of course those gyros. Strictly a to-go spot except in summer months where you can cop-a-squat @ one of the very unofficial plastic tables and chairs right outside the doors. Top on my list because they actually serve real chicken gyros. They slow cook the chicken on a spinning grill known as the Gyro/Shawarma machine just like the lamb. Where I've witnessed many other spots try to offer frozen "steak'em" like strips when you ask for chicken. Here it's craved right off the machine and tossed a grill to ensure thorough cooking as you order. I'm sure that there are now many other places that are good or even better, but when I rarely have taste for a chicken gyro, GK is what comes to mind. Just A Note: Drivers beware, parking can be an issue and the vultures are always out to grant you with a ticket for your Gyro craving.

The gyros here are so bomb omg! I fell in love with gyros back in the early 1980's in San Diego at a place called Canada Steak Burger. Since then, I've attempted to relive the same food euphoria, and decades later Gyro King did that for me. Visiting NYC and not having a classic gyro is simply unacceptable, so we were on the prowl for the best in the area. It was getting late in the evening and I was losing hope and on a fluke, we spotted Gyro King at the next corner. They were preparing to close so we rushed in and placed our order. The pita bread was hot and moist, fresh tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers, onions, lettuce, creamy tzatziki (I asked for extra because it was that good), and the star of the show, the beef and lamb. Perfectly seasoned, not dry and good portion. Can't wait to return to NYC and glad I found my new favorite gyro spot!

Sorry I ate most of it.

First off........you need to know I'm not a fan of gyros. With that being said Gyro King in the Bronx has changed my mind. I'm in love with the gyro. The Gyro just melts in your mouth. All the favors married together perfectly. A must eat if visiting NYC or in the Bronx's.

I'm sorry, the Gyro just tasted so good, so I made a big mess on it. It was spontaneous.

Gyronly as good as your last Gyro. Edit: So I've been here maybe 15 times now. The first 10 times, it was consistently the best Gyro I ever had. But then the most recent five, it has been anywhere from average, to absolutely awful and inedible. It almost made us puke last time I came here with my bff. I have no idea what happened. I think perhaps they changed the meat. :( I'm going to give it yet another try in the coming future, but literally, the last 5 attempts were tragic. The meat tastes nothing like it did. It's chalky and very weird now. Please guys, go back to what you used before. I'm lowering this to a 4 until they get their amazing taste back. I hope they do. In the mean time, "Gyro World" in Flushing is my new NYC fave, and possible even the best I've had anywhere in the country. Original Review: By the way, "Gyro" is pronounced "Yee-row", in case anybody ever tells you otherwise: they're wrong. But that's okay, let them pronounce it however they want to. It's f***ing delicious either way. And if you just stumbled upon Gyro King, then you just found the best tasting Gyro in the entire continent of North America. That's assuming you're in the continent. And not incontinent. In which case this will go right through you. And yet it's still worth eating. Sort of like my thingy. What to get: a Gyro, duh. What else: Your boyfriend just had sex with my grandmother. If it mainly sold cereals, it would be "Cheerio King." I've eaten many Gyros in my life. Maybe it's because I just love going to different cities and taking all the meat in my mouth and down my throat that I can. I love having the juice in my tummy. I swallow everything. And from all these specf***ingtacular Gyro experiences in my life, which include such wonders as Central Gyros in Chicago, and Mike & Tony's in Pittsburgh, the greatest Gyro I have ever eaten, is none other than Gyro King in The Bronx of NYC USA. It's. Just. So. Good. If it sold Egyptian food, it would be "Cairo King." What makes it so good? It's the meat. Sort of like any relationship with any studly man, to be honest. But really, the pita bread is typical, fluffy, doughy, good. The yogurt sauce is not overdone, it's tasty, it works. The salad on the sandwich is always fresh and always enjoyable. But it's the spectacularly spiced, dreamy, luscious taste of the meat that sets this Gyro apart from every other one I've had. I don't know why. It just does. It's so fresh, it's so good, there's a certain spice about it that just rocks my world. If it sold orgasms to drunk girls, it'd be "Beer-O King." I did have one horrible experience here though, the most recent time. It was maybe the 6th or 7th time I'd been here, and maybe I was just not feeling well, or was too full, or perhaps it was an off-day, but the meat tasted so weird, I couldn't eat it. I almost threw up, and I threw the whole thing away. I will be returning very soon to make sure that this hasn't become a regular feature. They're allowed to have an off day. It's still my fave Gyro in the country based on every other experience, and I'll let you guys know whether it goes back to the supremacy of the normalcy, or whether it's of again, in which case I'll have to start warning people earlier in the review. If it were the fave eatery of Batman, Indiana Jones and James Bond, it'd be "Hero King." A couple of notes: it's a Chicago-style Gyro which means it's the one you're most familiar with. The kind that is shaved off a large spinning rotunda of meat. Most of the top companies that make this meat are in Chicago. The traditional Greek kind is made of pork and is served (to perfection) at BZ Grill in Astoria, Queens - try that one too. If Gyro World is closed or the standard has dropped, the second best Chicago-style Gyro in town is close by at "Greek Express" so give that one a try. And that about sums it all up. When I am inside the store, or Thom Yorke of Radiohead is, it's "Weirdo King." But that's my problem. And his. He's a friend of mine btw. No joke. So make the pilgrimage up to the Bronx and try this place. Also try El Atoradero, Louie & Ernie's Pizza, S & S Cheesecake, Greek Express, Tamales Ebenezer, and Duck-a-genie Burek. These places are all worth coming to the Bronx for - they're amazing. And none better than this - Gyro World - the single best tasting, greatest Gyro in North America. Mark my words. And my p*nis too, if you must. Oh, and if every girl coming (ahem) to this place was experiencing "that time of the month" simultaneously, then it would, obviously, be the "Period King." But it's not. It's the best Gyro in the count-ry. Period.

Hands down the best Gyro spot in the Bronx, I have been going here as long as I can remember and the taste has not changed one bit.

The food is okay, but for the price you pay it gets the job done. The flavor is not quite there, but again, it's not the worst.
