Ambiance 10/10 When I first stepped foot into the…read morerestaurant, I instantly got this retro vibe. I just love the color of the seating and how comfortable the atmosphere was. Service: 10/10 The employees were very friendly. They were kind and had a nice smile on their face. That is what customers should be looking for when being approached by waiters or waitresses. They were very helpful with the menu option. Food: 10/10 I started with their hot chocolate with whipped cream. Man! It was delicious. The whipped cream, by the way, is optional. It does not automatically come with the hot chocolate. The texture was just right. I picked a good day to drink hot chocolate. I have also ordered their standard Belgian Waffles with a side of sausage. I have to admit, I was slightly disappointed with the quantity of the waffle. They only give you one. Additionally, you'd have to ask for the butter. Butter does not automatically come with the waffles. The syrup is or at least should already be on the table once you're seated. Even though I only got one waffle, it was delicious. Furthermore, you have the option to add whipped cream to the waffles. They will add the whipped cream to the waffles for you. The same can be applied to pancakes. When all is said and done, they will offer you a blow-pop lollipop. Overall 9.5/10 I will be back. I am unsure if they do reservations. It wouldn't be surprising if they did. Their menu options and pricing were reasonable.

They will essentially make whatever you want lol. They even have an iced coffee that's for you if you like more sugar in your coffee than coffee. I hope you're reading that as the compliment it's meant to be. And the staff is always nice. They are pretty attentive l, but they get so busy on weekends so you may have to wait a bit. Ultimately, I'm a George's loyalist. If you love Ellie's in ParkChester, it's only because you've never been here.

Hudson Garden Grill - Delicious, juicy burger with garlic aioli is the perfect ending after a walk around the gardens.

This is my second time dining at the Hudson Garden Grill at the NYBG. My friends and I went there…read moreon a weekend around 12 pm. The place had many tables filled so I would highly suggest going there with a reservation beforehand. Despite there being a good amount of people service was quick and all servers were very kind and attentive. Our waiter Steven made sure we were taken care of and everyone else were very kind. Our drinks arrived promptly, I will say there was some inconsistency in how our drinks were mixed since one of the vanilla drinks was sweeter than the other but other than that all drinks were delicious. The food on both times that I've been here was delicious with everyone at the table enjoying their meal. I've yet to have a bad experience here. I would say if you are debating trying the restaurant, take the opportunity to as you won't be disappointed.

We were lucky to time our visit to New York Botanical Gardens on a glorious mild and sunny spring…read moreday. Enough blossoms were out to provide me with a whole bunch of ideas for art projects. On this particular day they had a few food carts at the Clay Picnic Pavilion, accompanied by some very loud music that you might not expect in a bucolic setting. Even though we were starving, the lines were so long at each of the food carts that we decided to look elsewhere for nourishment. We ended up at the rather swanky Hudson Garden Grill in the NYBG. You probably should make reservations, which we had not done. But since it was past five and getting close to the 6pm closing time, we were still able to get seated. Service started out adequate but then slipped badly towards the end of our meal. Our server indicated that the menu would be changing the next week, which is unfortunate, because the corn fritters we had are no longer on the menu. These fritters were the bomb! We shoulda gotten a second round. Perhaps the zucchini chips that are now on the menu are as good. I had the Caeser salad with chicken. It was fine. The chicken was not mixed in or topped on top of the salad, but served to the side. JP ordered the Hudson (cheese) burger with fries. Both the burger and the fries tasted good, but that Brioche bun collapsed and fell apart in poor JP's hands. But you should expect that with the Brioche bun, to which just about every restaurant these days has a slavish devotion.

The Sangria Cafe is quite a place and has excellent service. I had my mind set on ordering…read morenonfortified red sangria, but discovered they only have brandy or other liquor infused sangria they make in small batches. You cannot order a fresh carafe or pitcher of sangria with the fruit in it here, which is what I was expecting from a place headlining sangria. So your experience of the Sangria Cafe for sangria will come down to whether you like yours fortified. I like my sangria freshly made to order with just the wine and chopped fruit, but you may have a better experience at Sangria Cafe if you prefer fortified sangria. So the Manager, Elios, was superb. He told me he would let me taste the red, white and lychee versions to see which one I preferred. Given they are all fortified to an extent, I chose to order margaritas. I prefer mezcal margaritas, but they did not have mezcal at the time. So I went with the tequila classic. It was good and I had it to go for my evening at a cigar lounge. I also ordered food to go: the French cut pork chops with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus and the braised beef short rib with small potatoes and broccoli. Here's a twist: the food was better than the adult beverage at a place emphasizing the latter. At all times, my server, Hector, was superb in his own right. Service is probably the strong suit at Sangria Cafe, followed by the food. The French cut pork chops taste like they have been marinated or at least brined. You will eat these down to the bone and you will pick up those bones to clean them. The garlic mashed potatoes were great too, but the asparagus was a bit overcooked. On balance, this $30 dish was satisfying and would have been better had they included a little gravy on the side for the mashed potatoes. The beef short rib at $38 was even tastier. I appreciate the chef took the time to get a good cut of short rib and trimmed the excess fat down to a leaner cut. The meat is inherently marbled with fat, so the flavor is already going to be as present as the savory tenderness. If you dine at a restaurant where there is excess fat on the beef short rib, know the chef there is not putting in the work to trim all that fat. Coudos to the chefs in the Sangria Cafe kitchen for their trimming work. This is even better than the pork chops and you'll savor every bite. The broccoli was overcooked here, so the chefs could restrain themselves on the cooking time for the veggies. The small potatoes were perfect and what is not to like about marbled beef and potatoes. Here they have a little gravy with cooked onions to add to the savory pleasure. The Sangria Cafe is a great place to come with friends. This place will see lots of action as the weather warms. The atmosphere is upbeat and the music is in full swing. This is a Latino and Afro Latino crowd. The kitchen and service are very good here. Perhaps I'm in the minority preferring nonfortified sangria, but I wish that were an option with the chopped fruit in it. Perhaps the majority prefers the fortified hit, but it would be nice to have it more relaxed with just the wine as summer approaches or at any time of the year. Please keep the mezcal in stock as SOP for the mezcal margs. Thanks to Elios, Hector and the chefs in the kitchen. 3.5 stars.
