Beef Shawarma Over Rice
Paula L.

The food is delicious and service is decent. Love their shawarma over rice. A little on the pricey side ($16-18) but the portion is huge. I can never finish one myself. Also love drenching it with that white and red sauce.

Food is always great here. They are very quick on making your food as well. Remember to get extra white sauce and red sauce if you taking it Togo. Got the chicken over rice and combo over rice. Usually these will last me 2 meals which is great. Tons of rice and decent amount of chicken. The extra sauce is need if you are save for another day which will make it a little moist again. Decent size of the restaurant, multiple tables across the restaurant. You can also order online as well if you know if you are on the way there.

Combo Over Rice (No Salad)

Halal Bros was probably the first "halal cart" style food I had ever had. I tried it many years ago after the opened their first Brick and Mortar location on UT campus. I instantly fell in love with it and it became one of my favorite restaurants. It's really good food and always a place I like to take friends who have never had this type of food to. I always get the combo over rice, which is a massive plate of rice covered in chicken and gyro as well as white and red sauce. The portion size is very generous and can definitely be made into two meals. The only reason this is not five stars is that it can sometimes be a little inconsistent, especially the chicken. Over time the quality has gone down a little bit and other restaurants similar to this in the austin area have caught up. It's still the og "halal cart" style food in Austin but it's not the undisputed best anymore. Tips: - Make sure to ask for extra sauce on the side (no extra charge), especially if you plan on having leftovers. If you heat it up the sauce dries up so it's always good to have extra on the side. - You can ask for no salad and they'll replace it with more rice and meat for no extra charge. It's a lot more value and makes the meal more filling but less balanced. - Combo over rice in my opinion is the best item especially since you get two different meats. Would definitely recommend especially if it's your first time.

We love halal bros and typically go to the Braker Lane location and tried this one today. We kept finding these seed seasonings in our rice and it made it super hard to eat. Biting into it is a strong unpleasant flavor. We love halal bros so super disappointed after trying a new location and biting into whatever these things are :/. Gonna switch back to the braker lane location

Chicken over Rice, falafel, Lamb Kebab Wrap(foil wrapped), pita bread,Hummus, red and white sauce.

Our experience was 31/2 stars but rounding up to 4! We ordered takeout yesterday afternoon, chicken over rice, lamb kebab wrap, 1 pita bread, hummus and falafel. Chicken over rice: it's chicken thighs marinated and grilled over basmati rice and a small salad(lettuce n tomatoes), chicken was juicy, nicely marinated but it dint had that grilled flavor nor I saw any grilled marks. chicken fat wasn't properly trimmed, personally me n my kid both don't like chewing the fat nor the taste of it, it spoils the whole taste, I started doubting every time I took a bite of chicken, was hesitant I bite on fat again. So next time will stick to chicken kebab. rice was good, nicely flavored, portions were good both chicken and rice. Lamb kebab wrap: lamb cubes were little undone but when you take a bit everything together tasted good, balanced flavors. Pita bread: we ordered 1, but there were 2, 1 was goOd thin nicely cooked, other one was like an very thick flat bread and wasn't cooked all the way, you could see the parts of uncoOked dough. Hummus: it was a disappointing, it tasted sour, topped with couple of drops of olive oil, we dint eat it, so will avoid it next tIme, Falafel: it's 4small falafel(munchkins size), comes with white n red sauce, little hummus on lettuce bed. Falafel was delicious, just perfect in every way, freshly made, cRispy outside, soft and flavorful inside, wel balanced herbs flavors. White and red sauce: nothing special, white sauce tastes like plain ranch, red sauce tastes like the Asian sauce(Huy Fong chilli garlic) you get in stores. Plates and wrap were $10:99 before tax n tips, Overall it's good!

Ask the Community - Halal Bros

Is the falafel considered gluten free? Or at least not containing gluten ingredients directly? I tried to email halal bro's directly but never got a reply.

See if you can give them a call, they do answer their phone. Only issue is the frontline staff may not know, but I am sure they could find someone to ask.

This was by far the best restaurant I went to when in Austin! Between the ambiance, service and…read morefood, this is a 10/10. We had a reservation for a party of 10 on a Saturday night. We were sat outside in this beautiful oasis. I didn't even remember I was in Austin, I thought I was in Greece throughout my meal. There were so many different types of seating, an outdoor bar and the whole outdoor area was covered in plant and trees and lights! The outside set up was jaw dropping beautiful. I couldn't believe we didn't get too hot and how beautiful everything outside was. This is a Mediterranean place, so the menu was very heavy on that. I love this kind of food, so I found plenty of option that I would like. To start, as a table, we split the hummus, feta dip and roasted pork belly bites. The whipped feta dip was the best that I have ever had. It came with plenty of pita bread, cucumbers and carrots. It wasn't enough for all of us to eat how much we wanted lol, but we all did try some of it. All of the appetizers were very fresh and light tasting. They came out in a decent amount of time too. For my entree, I got the grilled chicken kabob. After all of the appetizers I had, I wasn't even hungry for dinner, but I did manage to eat some of it. It was a pretty simple but delicious tasting kabob. It was one skewer with half a plate of basmati rice. Idk if it would have filled me up if I didn't have some appetizers, but it certainly was delicious. The service was spot on. The waitress took her time other us and kept checking in to see if we needed anything. Whenever I am back in town, this will be my first stop!!

We had a pre-set meal and they brought out plenty of portions for the table, so no one got hungry! Stars of the show for me were the brussels sprouts and crispy potatoes! Both were cooked and seasoned so well. We also got salmon and chicken dishes, which were both tender and soft. We ended our meal off with some chocolate cake, which was delicious! We also had some greek yogurt ice cream dessert with sea salt and olive oil, which wasn't the biggest hit at our table -- definitely more of an acquired taste! Overall, had a lovely dinner at Aba!

After my first visit, I know I will be coming for a long time to come. My partner and I came here on Friday night and despite not having reservations, we were able to snag a seat outdoors immediately (indoors would have been a wait so if that is what you're looking for, I highly recommend reservations). The place itself is really cute and has am aesthetic vibe. I have heard that the indoor section can get really loud but that is not at all an issue with the outdoor seating. Our server, Pedro, was incredibly kind and attentive. He took the time to ask about dietary restrictions and marked up the menu so we know exactly what we could eat. He was also just a real fun server and made our experience even better! As for food itself, words can't describe how good it was! - We got a few drinks to start. I ended up having their aperol drink (it came with an ice cube made of aperol as well!) and an everything martini (think of an everything bagel but in martini form. yes, you read that right). Both were good but I definitely preferred the the aperol drink (it's just more up my alley) - We opted for the traditional hummus for our first visit and it was great. I'll def be trying their grilled corn one next. - The whipped feta deserves its own review because nothing should be this delightful! So light and garlicky. My partner doesn't like sweet things so he was a little nervous about the hot honey but its so subtle. - The frena (bread) that comes with the dips is the perfect compliment - The smashed cucumbers were refreshing and did not taste anything like I expected it to (in the best way possible). I thought I knew what it would be but it was something else entirely. - We ended up sharing the mushroom skewers which could easily feed two people, especially with how many other things we ordered. Overall, it was an incredibly experience and we will be back to try more menu items (which change seasonally!) and to have some dessert which we didn't have during this visit as we were so incredibly full.

Nice selection of wines by the Glass - I went for a crisp white from Greece and my colleague enjoyed Chianti. We opted for the lamb starter and wild grouper tagine. After we ordered, the GM Tarun informed us that he and the executive chef were not pleased with the grouper quality and offered a substitution of salmon. The dish was even better as the rich salmon (perfectly crisp skin) stood up nicely to the flavorful sauce, which was served over black forbidden rice. The lamb was wrapped in a well seasoned bread with seeds, a slightly spicy harissa and whipped feta. I would come back for that dish many times. They gifted us dumplings and a sticky toffee dessert which was very kind. Both were delicious. I don't think I have experienced better service anywhere in Austin. Will definitely come back for more business meetings and with friends in the future.

Some things were better than others. Stand out dishes were the cheese saganaki aka the flaming cheese. Big portion for it but doesn't give you enough bread. The happy hour potatos were great, They came out mostly crispy but curry flavor and the feta cheese were delish together. I loved the curry hummus, someone else really liked the walnut Muhammara all the flavors worked well together. Octopus was also good. I wanted to love the hamachi crudo but it lacked flavor to me but it does look pretty. The best dessert was the bread pudding. The baklava was dry and the pistachio bar was kind of bland.

The hummus was so good. I love the pepper oil on top that gives it a little kick. It comes with pita bread but if you order more, it's an extra $3. We also got croquetas (ham and cheese fritters). There are four of them and they are sooo delicious!! This is a must get especially if you love warm and creamy stuff. The outside is nicely fried and if you never had it, it's similar to Japanese takoyaki. Although I love it a lot, the portion was just right for sharing because it really fills you up. We also got the potatoes (nice, but nothing that blew my mind) and chicken empanadas that I thought had a strange, sour taste. I wouldn't get that again. I highly recommend getting different tapas instead of the main courses so you can try different things. We were completely satisfied with the meal after getting these but still made room for the orange almond cake!! This was extraordinarily good!! Not too sweet and the cake has a nice moist texture-not dry. It took a while for food to arrive so service was a bit slow. You can also sit outside if you want but we sat indoors since it was chilly. It's a smaller restaurant so it's nice for an intimate meal or date. They have a bar. There's parking in the back, which is where the entrance is. Btw, this is also on inKind so I got to claim $25 off $50.
