I tried a variety of the meats and they were cooked to perfection--tender, flavorful, and well balanced with just the right spices and sauces. Nothing was dry, which made every bite enjoyable. Even though it was busy, the service was quick and very welcoming. The restaurant itself is spotless and clearly well maintained. They also offer traditional desserts like Om Ali, knefe, and rice pudding. If you want a more relaxed café vibe afterward, there's a café in the same parking lot run by the same owners with very comfortable seating and even a prayer room. Overall, a wonderful experience that definitely did not disappoint. I'll absolutely be back.

I remember looking over and thinking, "What is this place that's so full of life?" It was bustling with people and had such a great energy. I had never tried Egyptian food before, but I was feeling a little adventurous. I'm really glad I did. A few dishes were recommended, but I was told the Koshari is beloved in Egypt, so that's what I ordered. Be prepared for a bit of a carb coma, but it's absolutely worth it. It was delicious. The mix of pasta, rice, lentils, chickpeas, and crispy fried onions worked surprisingly well together, especially with the sauces they give you. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Toronto.

Karas bills itself as authentic Egyptian food that is entirely charcoal-grilled. I tried 2 dishes: grilled chicken & grilled minced lamb. Both dishes cost me $50 and is worth less than $20! Here's why: 1) the portions were miserly! For a $30 plate (with tax), take a look at the photo - 4 tiny balls of minced lamb sitting morosely on the plate. 8 bites in total! 2) the meats were as dry as OLD SHOES! Charcoal grilling is an art form. The lamb, which was supposedly wrapped in lamb fat, should have been succulent and juicy. Instead, as the 2nd photo shows, it was burnt and very, very dry. 3) the chicken was no better. Dry to the point of being stringy and chewy. It was supposed to be dark meat (leg), but it was so dry I couldn't even tell if it was dark or white meat. 4) For this miserable dinner, I waited a full 28 minutes - when I was there at 4pm and I was the only 1 of 2 customers. Unacceptable! This was a real disappointment, and a total let down, because Karas shawarma (by the same Owner) was actually quite decent, which was why I decided to try their restaurant location. My verdict: Eat at Karas shawarma, when they have their 2 wraps for $20 promo on Mondays. That's worth eating for that price. But Karas Restaurant most definitely is NOT worth eating at - at this price point & for such bad quality!

The atmosphere was lively but relaxed, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They took the time to walk us through the menu and explain the highlights of their authentic Egyptian cuisine. We started with a refreshing "Mojito" and then followed by "Salata Baladi", "Hummus", "Baba Ghanosh", "French Fries", "Kebda Eskandarani", "Sausage Eskandarani", "Karioka Combo" and paired it with "Tahini Sauce" and "Garlic Sauce". The food was very fresh and very flavour. The Karioka Combo includes Tarb (ground beef skewer wrapped with lamb fat), Shish Tawook, Kofta, Beef Kebab, Reyash (Lamb Chops) and the unique Hawaoshi. Each one of them was marinated with unique flavours and grilled to perfection; juicy and tender. We wrapped up our meal with the delicious "Roz Bel Laban", a creamy rice pudding with just the right touch of cardamom and raisins. It was the perfect finish to a memorable meal.

We ordered the Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Meat Platter and Sausage Manakesh. The Manakesh stands out as one of the best in Mississauga, its thick bread and generous topping of cheese and flavour make it a must try. The lamb chops on the meat platter were also delicious and all the meat is wonderfully moist. The overalls atmosphere, music and customer service were all exceptional. I will certainly be returning. Kudos to Sayel!

The 2 things I would rate most highly is the service and the vibe of the place…read more The waiter who attended to our table was very nice and trained very well to answer and give menu suggestions to help in the ordering process. The owner of the place, Maha, was also extremely pleasant going around tables and chatting with the customers. The restaurant space was a little tight, but it has a lot of character. It gives a very welcoming and homey feel. One minor gripe I have is that the utensils appear to be sealed or covered the wrong way. It was the ends of the spoon and fork that was covered with napkin and not the actual surfaces that come into contact with food. The ends of utensils that actually come in contact with the food and mouth just lie there directly on top of the dining table which is not the most sanitary. As for the food, the food serving size of the meal is great and is usually more than enough for a person. Ordering appetizers on top of the brunch meals will be good for only those that are heavy eaters. For food taste, I personally would rate it as OK to good. It was not bad, but just not something I would personally consider to rank as among my favorite breakfast fare. I enjoyed it more for the novelty of trying something different which is Egyptian food. The food was also a little on the pricey side. We (group of 2) came in at 5 minutes after 10 on a Sunday morning and were lucky enough to find seating (2 tables that can seat 4). When we finished and left at 11AM, there was already a long lineup outside.

This time around I picked up a regular size chicken shawarma on the rocks with a drink, which is an everyday special that ran me $8.50. Having been a shawarma-lover for a while, I think I now prefer the smaller size portion (a regular) since it feels lighter, especially when the weather isn't that hot yet. Sauce is always excellent, I never have rice left over by the time I'm out of sauce. Service is nice and quick. Personally, to me a lot of shawarma joints feel the same - they're all quite consistent with flavour, but I do find Taza's chicken shawarma feels less tendon-y? If that's the right word. I'm also a fan of the chicken as I find it less dry, especially when I'm ordering it on the rocks. All in all same great quality, I'll definitely be back soon as soon as I'm in the area

I like how they keep their rice hot in a large rice cooker. Ok, it's Asian! And they can accommodate me by having the sauces on the side. Friendly and fast. They have a daily special menu which is nice to see. Now for the third visit, I got their Wednesday special which is kofta (ground beef) with rice and salad. In the photo, it showed it all together, however, my salad was given in a separate container which appeared a larger quantity than anticipated with lots of goodies on top! There was a wait time for this order as I didn't realized they were cooking it. The girl at the counter never mentioned how long was the wait. At the end, it came out hot and it was worth the wait Yum, yum! Love the sauces too! Since they put it in takeout containers, I had some leftover to bring home. There is seating area around it and a decent washroom. Verdict: if i am around the area, of course I am coming back! It can definitely fill up this Cat's tummy.
