A good contender for Kunafa's (which has always been my go-to spot for kunafas). I was in the area and had heard very good things about this establishment, especially about the quality of their baklavas and kunafas. As a true foodie, I had to try both! I got myself some baklava and a kunafa and decided to take a bit out of each right away. The flavours were absolutely magical and only wish I had discovered this place sooner! Disappointing Quality - Not Worth the Price. I was really looking forward to trying Crown Pastry after a new opening in Ajax, but unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. I spent almost $100 on baklava and various sweets, expecting high-quality pastries that would last at least a couple of days. The first day they were mediocre at best, but the real issue became apparent the next day - everything had turned hard and dry. The baklava lost all its moisture and became nearly inedible. For the premium price I paid, I expected fresh pastries that would maintain their quality for more than 24 hours. I ended up having to throw most of it away, which felt like throwing $100 in the trash. Such a waste of money. I'm not sure if this was an off day or if there's an issue with how they store their products, but the quality simply wasn't there. I hate leaving negative reviews, but I hope the management takes this feedback seriously. At these prices, customers deserve pastries that stay fresh and delicious beyond the day of purchase. read more

Has standing tables and small little bench on the inside by the front door. Otherwise no actual table and chair seating. Treats were by weight lots of selection. Server behind the plexiglass would help with the order sometime has a small wait. Lots to try! They also have the Dubai chocolate bar and very delicious strawberry cups with pistachio crunchy bits. The options are vast with even nutella flavoured baklava (that's new for me). Didnt get to try it. Found the pricing to be 2X more than my usual location coming at $34/kg (no tax charged). I believe this place is Lebanese specifically. Everything about it appeals to my tastes, the savouriness of the pastry and nuts, the sweetness of the honey, and I love layers and a mix of textures. I'm serious when I say that I could eat a six-piece tray of baklava without any issue if it wasn't for some attempt at self-control. I tried a whole variety on my tray and they were all 10/10. The taste was perfect and the texture of the pastries was about the best I've had. Probably in part because everything is super fresh. When I walked in, the smell of butter filled the place & it was very enticing. The staff were gracious. We got the knafeh & the lady explained the best way to eat it, heat up for 20 seconds & add the syrup. They were so nice & helpful. I didn't try any of the baklava but I will have to next time. The staff seems to be helpful. The bosses/ owners were around too since it was opening day and they were very chatty and inviting. What more can you ask for besides a wide variety of yummy sweets? Not much by my count, especially when one of the items is a sweet cheese roll aka Halawet El Jibn. I'm definitely not the authority on Middle Eastern desserts, but having had plenty of baklava, this is the first time I've encountered the halawet el jibn and it made a profound impression. Composed of a sweet cheese dough (cheese and semolina) on the outside, the interior is filled with ashta (clotted cream prepared with rose water and orange blossom water), finished with crushed pistachios on top. The proper way to eat it, is to drench it in syrup, which I decided against and for me, the sweetness was just right without it. As for what's standout about this dessert is both the taste and the texture. When I bit into the sweet cheese roll, it was like taking a plunge into the rice flour of a mochi that's been crossed with a cheesecake, only to land in a delicately flavoured and airy cream centre---it was exquisite. If the similarities between the textures of the cream and the sweet cheese throws you off, but you like the sound of something light, I would recommend Crown's Biennaren with Ashta, whose appeal is its crunchy top made of shredded kataef and/or its Mammoul with Ashta and pistachios, which I love for the hunks of pistachio embedded in the ashta. Just like other reviewers have mentioned, items are priced by weight, and with the level of craft required to make each dessert, I'm thankful you can try several items for $9 after taxes. If you're in a pinch, check out the left wall towards the back of the bakery where you might get your hands on a full box of discounted goodies for a bargain of $5. Next time you need a dessert platter, consider coming to Crown for some mind-blowing Syrian delicacies. They'll have you covered with their selection of petit fours, assorted baklava, even knafeh in a bun! Can't wait to visit again and to try more of Crown's desserts. I highly recommend the cylindrical ?pistachio little ones, which after extensive personal taste testing I determined to the most superior. The second best one is the bird nest followed by the hazelnut trapezoid shaped one. My baklava knowledge is limited but I know my shapes! first off, the lady has a bit of an attitude when I ask for the liner for the Kunafa to heat up since they put in the plastic containers. So I brought the Kunafa now and after hearing it up, it's SOUR. I noticed that fresh one tend to create string when pulling but it's not the case thought it's just cold at the store. Seriously this is what I call authentic middle eastern sweets. Starting from the smell of the delicious ghee, to the crispiness of the vermicelli on top of the cheese. I started my visit with 2 layers of crispy vermicelli stuffed by ricotta cheese, a combination of savory cheese and a moderately sweet crispy edges with some pistachio on top, it is called Om Alnareen, and trying it is a must. Then I tried the Konafa, which was the best one I tried in GTA, delicious with Nabilsi cheese, and crispy semolina, and a hint of rose water. I could not resist to take rest of the store with me in a samples of everything. During the drive I enjoyed the Hareesa with a generous amount of pistachios, and the cheese halawa, which was my least favorite as it has a strong flavor of rose water, yet still my favorite in the area.
