Always great music and conversations with the stylists, I have a local barber I see regularly these days but they weren't comfortable with a special request I had after dying my hair so I gave Old Bank a call. I went to see Dante on a Wednesday at noon and he was not only a pleasure to talk to but did a great job giving me a Mohawk which I have gotten a ton of complements on. They are very affordable and even provide straight razor shaves. Genuinely one of the best places to get a haircut in Baltimore.

She was very methodical, not just using shears like a Supercuts bargain basement cut. Coming from the San Francisco Bay Area, price seemed very reasonable. Side note, Mason and the other woman who work there are quite competent while both men seemed a bit off. A guy swept up and felt the need to remind the women that he was going out of his way and deserved a commendation for extra sweeping duty. When the other woman spelt, she just swept without reminding others of her efforts as she passed. The other guy asked me to why I didn't ask permission before taking pictures. Jeez.

The facility is very welcoming of all people and does not make anyone feel unwelcome or secluded based off of your race, sexual orientation, gender, etc. all the barbers are very well trained and are not cosmetologist that think they know how to cut hair. They're barbers! Prices vary depending on what services you want, but a normal haircut is $40. It's definitely worth it. If you have to wait, there's drinks, games, and a giant flat screen tv with cable. However, if you just make an appointment , the barbers are all professional and honor your time. I have a busy schedule so I can't do a walk in where wait. They're all very punctual. This is officially my favorite barbershop and there's free parking and a ton of shops in the area

Let me preface my review by saying that I've been in the Baltimore area for approximately 2 years…read morenow. My hair stylist/barber is one I've had cutting my hair since I moved to the NCR in 2005. However, now that I live in Baltimore, the trek to her shop can sometimes be far. So I've been trying to find somebody in Baltimore to cut my hair in the meantime or when I don't feel like making the drive. Cut to the good barbershop. ...see what I did there! Ha! I saw their shop and sent a message to see if any of them cut women's hair. They replied that if I was going for a short cut almost anybody could cut my hair. So I made an appointment. My appointment was with Darren. Darren took his time by asking me specific questions regarding how low I wanted my hair, the sides, what kind of edging I wanted, etc. I was nervous. I'm not going to lie! I'm used to my hair stylist, washing my hair and then cutting it and I've been going to her for so long. She knows my hair, my style, etc. So I answered all of Darren's questions and chimed in when I wanted something done and he obliged. I use gel in my hair so after every haircut I normally go home, add gel, to see how it looks. You should have seen the smile on my face when I got home, washed my hair, and saw that it was a really good cut! Yes! Finally! So, I'll be back.

Having grown up working in my uncle's 12-chair hair salon in Towson, I learned early on what…read moreseparates a good hairstylist from a truly great one. My uncle taught me exactly what to look for--precision, consistency, and that innate sense of style that can't be faked. I've been going to US Barbers for over 25 years now, and from day one, I approached it the way I was taught: I observed every barber in the shop before making my choice. It didn't take long to see that this place was full of skilled, talented professionals. Once I found my barber, I never looked back--I've been completely satisfied ever since. The level of service and expertise at US Barbers rivals any high-end salon, but at a fraction of the price. To me, a haircut is a personal service that deserves appreciation, which is why I always tip $5. It's my way of recognizing the craftsmanship and care that go into every cut. US Barbers isn't just a neighborhood shop--it's a hidden gem full of genuine talent.

That journey has included frustrations, disappointments, and occasional epiphanies. Thankfully, Conheads Men's Grooming is a welcome reprieve from the bad haircuts and inconsistent barbers and wins my vote in multiple categories. Location: The barbershop is located on Antique Row right across from Maryland General Hospital and a few storefronts up the street from the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center. Phaze 10 recently opened in the area and Land of Kush is within easy walking distance. The light rail is literally right in front of the shop. Street parking requires some thought, but I always find a spot on Eutaw Street and walk over to the shop. Ambience: It's clear that the owner(s) went the extra mile and put thought into the overall design. There's a lounge area up front, an outdoor courtyard out back, and a consistent gentlemen's lounge theme throughout. There's also a decent reading selection and soul music classics are always playing in the background. Service: For $23, you get a shampoo/wash, haircut, shave, and a complimentary beverage choice of water or wine. There's also an esthetician on staff who provides additional services by appointment. Most importantly, I find all the barbers to be very personable and welcoming, extending "hello," "come back again," and "thank you". Neutral Space: Okay, I might be pushing it a bit here, but oblige me. Black barbershops are normally ground zero for loaded, politically charged conversations on identity politics, religion, sexual relations, interpersonal relations, personal preferences, and a whole range of unsolicited social commentary. In my experience, Conheads is a pretty neutral space and I usually leave feeling relaxed and renewed as opposed to tense and offended. Well done!
