I have been to Old Bank over the years and always appreciated the great hair cuts I have received. This place caters to all ages but is especially great for guys from their 20's on up. Always great music and conversations with the stylists, I have a local barber I see regularly these days but they weren't comfortable with a special request I had after dying my hair so I gave Old Bank a call. I went to see Dante on a Wednesday at noon and he was not only a pleasure to talk to but did a great job giving me a Mohawk which I have gotten a ton of complements on. They are very affordable and even provide straight razor shaves. Genuinely one of the best places to get a haircut in Baltimore. read more

Started going to this shop for the first time recently because my previous barber is retiring. I was extremely satisfied with the cut, the atmosphere and the price. I would highly this shop. read more

These barbers are awesome. Cleaned me up great conversation and an all around nice shop

very fast, efficient and talented barber. Great experience overall. I didn't realize that I had to have a reservation, but they were very kind to accommodate me . read more

This is a great barber shop but it is a little pricey. Remember to bring cash and make an appointment beforehand

Long time customer of this operation, and I continue to be pleased with the quality of work and the general vibe.

Everyone is so chill and gives good cuts! Wait time can be a little longer than expected sometimes but it's because they care about their cuts! Just book an appointment and you'll avoid wait times! Cash only! read more

Highly skilled barbers providing immaculate cuts at affordable prices. Wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

My second time back since they reopened in June. Always an experience and a top cut! (But then my requirements are simple.) I'm told people are not getting their hair cut like before. What?! Things are looking good here in the city and I KNOW people still want to look good for those Zoom and WebEx meetings or selfies on Instagram. If you're not getting your hair cut, that must be a ton of product you're using on your shaggy locks! And I know you're not still letting your 5-year-old cut your hair for fun. Isn't it time to let the Old Bank crew trim your tresses? read more

A staple of Baltimore! With their covid 19 measures, I feel incredibly safe getting my hair cut. (My barbers wash their hands before and after cutting my hair, they take temperature readings, we're all wearing masks, and everything is sanitized). They also do a great job cutting my hair. If you can, tip generously! We're all in this together. read more

It was alright to be honest. Maybe there was miscommunication but it's not what I wanted. The price is not crazy , 25$ for haircut and then u tip can be all added to $30 read more

Super cool barbers who care about their clients & really know what they're doing. Highly recommend John & Jut.

Best to make an appointment on weekends. Cash only. Go somewhere else if you want a Regulation Cut or a properly blended High & Tight.

Spent an hour and a half waiting for a haircut after waiting 3 months to grow my hair out after the last time I got my hair mangled at Old Bank. Decided to give them another shot after the last time I got a haircut there and was very unhappy with the results. Once again, I asked for a simple fade and about a half inch off the top. My hair was barely faded up - it's all the same length around the side and back, and the barber took more like an inch off the top. Now it looks like I have a helmet of hair. I never know what to say when the barber is like "Is this good?" and it's just not at all but there's a huge line and you don't want to be a dick about how they didn't listen and now it's too short to fix. Like, "No, it's not good, but I guess now I'm gonna pay you now because you've already moved on to the next customer." Very upsetting experience on multiple occasions from a repeat customer. read more

I have been going to this place for years despite it being kind of far from my house and always a long wait. With the new booking systems post pandemic I made a choice to try a place closer to home that often has impossibly long waits. That was a huge mistake. Old Bank takes COVID very serious. They follow all the guidelines and everyone is masked and stays masked. It feels safe getting your hair cut here, which is not something I could say about the other spot I tried. There has never been a question about the quality of the haircut at Old Bank, always top of the line. However, how their handling COVID is above and beyond and as a healthcare worker that is very much appreciated! read more

Went there on a Saturday morning close to opening time and the wait was about an hour and half. The guy at the door was very respectful and gave me a good approximation. Took my name down. Went to get coffee which there are numerous options to choose from around that area. Came back. Sat for about 15 min. They do an amazing job and it's only $25 for beard and haircut. It's def worth the wait and will be coming back to them soon. Just plan ahead is all I can recommend. read more

Flew in from Guam & Hannah hooked it up!!! First cut I've ever had in Baltimore & it will forever be the spot I go to whenever I'm in the area. Great customer service, great cut! Thank you again Hannah! read more

Best haircuts I have ever had. Place reminds me of my great uncle's barbershop down in NC. Except, of course, the tattoos are not a Marine Corps emblem or a dancing girl. And the art on the walls. And the general coolness. But there is a distinct vibe that makes it more than a haircut. Been twice since I grew a beard and, giving the old man face and head they have to work with, I come out loving it. Highly recommended. read more

Unfortunately, Old Bank's become Hair Cuttery with handlebar mustaches and tattoos. Ya gotta give 'em props for their runaway success, but they've added so many chairs and so many new cutters that a) it's almost impossible to go there twice and not have someone completely new cutting your hair without waiting for an hour+, and b) it's increasingly difficult to get any consistency in cut. If you can get Dan, Bubs, Jut, or Young you've got a good chance of walking out happy. The rest are a crap shoot. Not to say their new staff is bad, but it's become way more hit and miss as to whether I can get a truly quality cut or not. Last time in, got yet another new guy I'd never seen before. Didn't listen to a damn thing I told him, cut way too short. Ended up with a cow-lick sticking out of the back of my head for two weeks. read more

Sean gave me the best haircut I've ever head, feeling 100%! Much love to him. Good prices and fast service for how many people were there. read more

This is an awesome old-school barbershop. Old Bank is fairly priced with stellar customer service. I have been to many barbers during my time, and I can confidently say none have been as skilled with their clippers as Sean, who gave me the cleanest mid-skin fade I've ever received. I strongly recommend him and Old Bank. read more

Such a fantastic place came in the last 45 min and needed a haircut bad. Not only did I forget my cash at the hotel, but my barber also took a leap of faith and covered for me. Then she waited until I drove to and back from my hotel to give my cash payment. I would come back next time I'm in the area! read more

Every time I go here I get the new best haircut I've ever gotten in my life. When I leave I always feel about 9000% cooler than when I arrive. The barbers are all super chill and I trust them with my life, and more importantly my hair. Thank you Old Bank Barbers for being the real MVPs always. read more

Best haircut I've ever had, twice in a row from two different barbers. Price to quality is unbeatable. Cool vibe. The barbers are true professionals. Will be back when this covid thing blows over. read more

I moved to Baltimore at the beginning of July and, on the original recommendation of a friend, tried out Old Bank. After my experiences with the past three months' worth of haircuts, though, I'm probably not going to come back. I've never gotten a truly "bad" haircut (I get a side part with a disconnect on the right and a blend on the left, tapered down on the sides), but I've only liked what I walked out with on one out of 5 occasions (Young 4 times, and John once). I would diagnose the problem as a combination of three issues: 1) Communication. I'm not a barber, and so while I can describe in general terms what I am looking for, I don't "speak the language". In my last city, my barber would spend the first couple minutes after I sat down without any tools in her hands, looking at me, confirming what I was asking for, and describing what she was going to do in layman's terms. From both my own haircuts and observing several dozen interactions while waiting, this is uncommon at Old Bank. 2) Attitude. I actually really dig the vibe, with the music, reading material, decor, and the overall "tattoo shop" feel. But you can have that appearance while making customers feel welcome and not as if they are an inconvenience. It's ironic that their price board says, to paraphrase, "come in, grab a beer, and remember, don't be a jerk". There are few smiles on either the barbers' or customers' faces, and it honestly feels like the Soup Nazi episode from Seinfeld - don't screw up the protocol or you may not be served. Another reviewer aptly diagnosed the staff as "convinced that this is the pinnacle of cool". 3) Rushing. Part of the cut quality issue might have to do with a rush to get through the large crowd that usually is waiting when I go in (after work on W, R, or F), but that wouldn't be much justification, as the judgment is based on the product of work. After a haircut, I have to live with how I look for another three weeks, while a barber can move onto the next customer. It feels like a lot of the barbers in there are concerned with getting out of work and going home, rather than putting in the extra effort to make sure the customer is completely satisfied. I am going to try other spots in Baltimore, as the quality of an Old Bank haircut is too hit-or-miss to deal with the headaches that come from their customer service. read more

I drive here once every two weeks from Columbia, MD just to get my hair cut. That should say a lot right off the bat... A few tips: - Expect to wait. These guys are good at what they do and it shows. Always a line, usually pretty crowded, no appointments taken, get used to it. - Bring cash. Again, BRING CASH. They don't take cards...$20 covers a basic cut and tip - Walk in, find a seat (if there is one), grab a beer from the fridge (they're free), and relax until it's your turn. Other than that get ready to get the best haircut you've ever had. I'm serious. These guys (I'm partial to Bubs and Jut) know how to cut some damn hair! You'll leave looking and feeling like a million bucks. Atmosphere is awesome, all the guys are really nice, good music, cold beer... doesn't get much better. read more

Artisanal haircuts from genuine Hampden hipsters with old timey beards and waxed mustaches for fifteen bucks. Cheap! The chillest place ever to get your hairs cut. No appointments, that's too elitist. Walk in and hang till its your turn. Decorated in a postmodern industrial hovel style, you can peruse vintage men's nudie magazines and sip a beer while you wait. So old school men's barber, that if there's a woman waiting there, it does not go unnoticed. I always leave with a great cut and a smile. Recommended. read more

This place is difficult to get out due to no parking. When I went in there was no greeting or anyone telling me that there is a line. I just had to figure out who was next for a haircut. Very unorganized. read more

Nice vibe immediately upon entering. The items on every station look like the shelves in my bathroom so that was comfortable. Had a seat and was offered a nice cold Boh during my brief wait for a chair. Jut gave me an excellent cut. He spent the time to make sure it was right before even asking me if it looked good. I even got my choice of aftershave for my freshly shaven neck! It's so hard to find a real barber anymore that can give you a proper classic cut and knows the value of pomade. $15 for the cut and I couldn't have walked out happier. I have found my new "local" barber for sure. Keep on doin' what you guys do! read more

¿Sarah? was so chill. Showed her a couple pics and she whipped out a quick professional cut.

1. Every barber did exactly what I want and so far I had 3 different one--they know "hair" and "cuts". 2. Be prepared to wait--they are good and good takes 20 mins at least per head/person. 3. Try an off time--if your busy--Like 1st thing Sunday AM(10AM) is when they open. 4.Could use a better reading selection but no biggie in lieu of the cute male customers that come in and out, I just watch them LOL read more

I've had three haircuts here from three different barbers, and all three have been awesome. They ask questions before cutting too much off, they shave your neck, they bullshit about the city, music, whatever, and they make sure you're into your cut before you leave. I'd love to give them five stars but I can't get a shave on the weekends. Actually I've been told I can only get a shave between 10-4 on weekdays, which makes me not able to ever get a shave here as I work between 8 and 6 on weekdays. So... yeah. The one luxury I look for in a good barber to put them over the top I can't have. That was disappointing. However, if you just want a cut at a great price, go here. They treat you right. They're quick, chatty, and all around awesome. They're so awesome if they said I could get a shave only at 9 on a Sunday morning, id be there at 8:55. And they'd get that fifth star. read more

No muss, no fuss. Unless you want someone specific or make an appointment, it's first come, first serve. But even when it's busy, the wait time is less than 10 minutes. And when you do sit down, it's all business. I am usually in and out in like 20min. You can chit-chat if you want to, but I got stuff to do and making small talk with my barber isn't on my to-do list like at a "salon" where the 22-year old wants to tell me about how faded she got in Miami last weekend. Old Bank's guys ask how you want it cut and get to work. BOOM! All for $17. My barber, Young, is great. I am so happy I found this place and I no longer need to spend $45 and an hour to have my hair cut by a "stylist". If you just want to get a good haircut and not deal with all the BS, this is your answer. CASH ONLY! read more

Best haircut in Baltimore no matter which barber in the shop you go to! CLEAN as F*&%!!!!! Oh,,,, your wait maybe takes a lil while?...... Shut up and have a beer, read a cool mag, and chat with all the other cool peeps waiting for a cut that's worth every penny. Thanks Old Bank!!! read more

So I just moved to Baltimore, and asked a friend to recommend a good place to get a haircut on the cheap, and voila! He delivered like a champ with his recommendation. This place is legit, and you really can't go wrong with an old-timey artisinal haircut at sixteen bucks a pop, but that's not the interesting part. At all times of day, this place seems to be awash in extremely good-looking dudes, both in terms of staff and client base. Seriously, between the barbers and the guys waiting in line, it's like a GQ cattle call in there. I am legitimately amazed that there isn't a gaggle of Hampden ladies just standing at the window at all times, just looking in and salivating. Protip, though: if you're looking to get served quickly, come in the off-hours. This place is already beginning to be packed by 10 AM, so make an effort to come early, and be prepared to be patient with these guys. read more

These guys are great! Dan, the owner, welcomed me into the shop and did an excellent job blending my balding top with my more substantial sides. Comfortable place for a cut and really convenient since it's OPEN ON SUNDAY!!! As a note, Dan is also passionate about his building's history and the neighborhood. This is a great addition to The Avenue and will certainly make me come back more often. read more
