Full Disclosure: I got highlights here on Sunday off of http://www.salonapprentice.com/…read more I don't normally write reviews for places that I used weird discounts for, however this place was so amazing. I was here on a Sunday afternoon. Taylor did my highlights. Raymond was also doing hair at the same time. All of the other clients that came in while I was there were regulars. Raymond and Taylor were both so nice to everyone. I saw 3 finished haircuts from Raymond while my highlights were processing. The 3 difference woman all had very different hair, but they all looked amazing when they were done. Taylor did a really good job with my hair. The highlights are just what I was looking for (very natural. My hair actually looks a lot like my sister's hair now!) I know that I got a discounted service here, but I was blown away by how nice the salon is, how great the staff is, and how loyal the customers are. All of those things indicate a outstanding salon to me! Oh, and they offer you a drink when you come in! I love places that do that!

I wanted highlights and I wanted them done right. I sought out a good salon with positive reviews…read moreon Yelp and found Hands2Create with 5 stars. I had Jeff do my hair 3 days ago. The pros are that he's a very nice guy, the right amount of talkative and personable, and to some degree he seems to know what he's doing. Regulars filtered in and out of the salon during my two hours there; he is clearly beloved by the people who come to him. I don't know what went wrong with my request. I asked for highlights, but I asked for them not too close to my roots so that I could grow them out cleanly -- sort of like a balayage. I didn't exactly want a balayage, but the general idea that the highlights looked natural without being streaks. When I came home and saw my hair under my own lights and mirror, I cried real life tears. It looks terrible. There is a halo around the top 4 inches of my hair where no highlights exist, about 2 inches of highlights in the middle that go from brassy to blondish, and returns to my natural color on the bottom couple inches. $200 later, and all I got out of it were terrible photos to send my mother and a ruined weekend of figuring out how to fix it before my upcoming event this weekend.

I've never had a stylist that pays as much attention to every detail as Ken does. He recently helped me dye my hair back to its natural dark brown color to cover up an outgrown balayage (done at a different salon) and I couldn't be happier with the results! He gave me a fresh cut with lots of layers and face framing to match. I also love that the salon is smaller than most as I find it a little overstimulating to get my hair done in a loud, packed room. The salon is always clean and tidy as well. If you're looking for a stylist that will make you feel like a million bucks after every appointment, then Ken is your guy!

I recommend Manal Studio without reservation. The team and service are exceptional. You should go…read morethere for your next cut or style. (I write this review as a man who has typically sought professional cuts.) My recommendation is based on fifteen years of service (at least) and a good amount of market research. I have been a client of Manal's for nearly fifteen years and have followed her through three different locations. Lincoln Square, to Skokie, and now to the current location. You may then think I am recommending Manal Studio without being able to make a comparison. Not so. I live in the city on the near north side and work in the Loop. Over the many years, I have made numerous attempts to use other high end salons or traditional men's barber shops. This includes expensive salons in the Loop, Gold Coast, and Lincoln Park, as well as and hipster joints out in Wicker Park. And here I am, with Manal Studio. The basis for my recommendation is Manal's exceptional skill and client handling. Her personal level of excellence then carries over to the full staff and location. Manal has built a great business. For the haircut, I'm a man with a thick hair and at least three cowlicks. My preferred cut has changed over the years: from very short to longer and more full, yet still professional. She always leaves me looking and feeling great and manages my unruly cowlicks well. She's willing to talk through her approach, adjust the cut, and take and implement feed back. I think this last point is what I have appreciated most. The ability to share feedback. I have found that it can be difficult to express with the person cutting my hair a difference of opinion - that I wished something had been done differently. But not with Manal. She's open to hearing how I think the cut is going during that visit, or has grown in since my last visit. She's easy to talk to. And she's friendly. Also, she works with me to talk about what products will work well with my hair, but I never feel like she's over selling me. Lastly, the studio is comfortable environment and the staff is great. They're responsive with scheduling and the prep (shampoo and condition) is always great. Go to Manal Studio.

I absolutely found that here at Manal Studio. I appreciate that they have an online booking system so you're not confined to business hours to work on your plans for the week. The system also sends out text reminders which are always helpful. Upon arrival (free street parking on side streets, by the way), you're greeted with nothing but good vibes. It smells lovely, everyone in there is kind and happy to see you, and there's soft music playing. Ahhh, an oasis. Muna took care of my color and Manal handled my cut. It was really comforting to have the owner with 25+ years of experience cutting my hair. Picking a new salon is anxiety-inducing! Both ladies are so lovely and did a wonderful job on my hair. Manal did a consultation with me ahead of time to better understand my hair color and cut preferences and worked her magic to help me leave with the desired results. I'm looking forward to coming back again soon. :)

I've gotten some really awesome bobs in my life but unfortunately this haircut I received at Salon…read moreSen has to go down on the list of "absolutely tragic". When I called to book the appointment I explained to the front desk I needed to be paired with an advanced stylist because my hair is very difficult. I have cowlicks and thick, frizzy texture. I know this but I also know it's possible to get the haircut I want. I was assured that I would be with an "expert" of short haircuts and get what I wanted to achieve. When I sat in her chair for the first time (and last) I told her about the past 10 stylists I went to that butchered my hair and she reassured me she would give me an awesome haircut... NOT. I went to cosmetology school in NYC and worked under a celebrity stylist, I'm not sure what her credentials are but Jfc what a disaster. With all of my cowlicks my hair should have been washed, straightened then cut, not cut wet because my hair lays differently when it's dry and straightened (how I wear it). I also told her that I wanted it symmetrical on all sides so it should have been parted down the middle and crossed checked, not parted on the side while cutting. She then blowdried my hair and cut it again. Again, not using a flat iron when I have thick wavy texture. When I straightened my hair the next day and went through it, it was the most ridiculous haircut I've ever gotten, it made me laugh. The ends were cut in all different directions and in a zigzag pattern, there were long hairs all over the place and the left side was 2 inches longer than right. I had to cut off a bunch of hair to even it out. When I called them back to see if she correct this atrocity I was told that she would be able to see me the following week and I would be charged another $75 to "fix" what I did to my hair lmao when I had already paid $100...as if I would give more money to the person that destroyed my hair in the first place?! It took me two hours but I was able to give myself the haircut I wanted, no thanks to Salon Sen. Bad experience, won't return and I don't recommend.
