The biggest reason we picked Salon Elan Vital was because of their trans- and queer-friendly reputation, which is really important for my trans partner, and trans friend. Everyone at the salon went so far above and beyond my expectations on that front. All of the stylists were incredibly supportive and worked hard to give us all the gender-affirming treatment we needed. Nahrein did the manicures, my eyebrow threading, and was extremely personable and willing to work with me as I figured out which color and shade of cute nail polish to get to complement my friends'. Mary did the hydrofacials and my back facial, and talking to her about her work on promoting diversity and inclusion within the salon was really reassuring to me about promoting those values in my own life. Jill did the haircuts, blowouts, and protein treatments, and shared a ton of knowledge about how to better take care of and style my hair, along with product recommendations for how to maintain that style between visits. Special shoutout to August for not only getting all the scheduling together for the stylists in advance, but also for working with each of us to make our experiences as stress-free as possible, from providing lunch recommendations to grabbing us herbal teas & coffee, so that my partner and friend could have a logistics-free, worry-free day at the salon. Overall, we all had exactly the experiences we needed to feel our absolute best about ourselves. We're already making plans to visit again soon!

You'll get a reminder for your appointment or the lovely girl at the front desk will call you to confirm, Thank you August. I'd suggest for you to give it a try and see for yourself. Take caution reading ahead because this review vill contain blunt statements. Do yourself a favor and peruse all the critical reviews before making a decision to go here for any type of service. This salon has been getting several low reviews for at least 15 years now. The atmosphere is negative. The staff of licensed stylists keep leaving. Plus, vorst of all, the unprofessional and degrading behavior by the owner towards the clients is sickening! Personal matters should NEVER be discussed vith a client that is not involved and just trying to get paid services done. The most outrageous thing is having the owner claim he vas promised and "wants" personal family items in my possession from my late mother that vas not previously discussed or put into an official legal document. I've gotten some really awesome bobs in my life but unfortunately this haircut I received at Salon…read moreSen has to go down on the list of "absolutely tragic". When I called to book the appointment I explained to the front desk I needed to be paired with an advanced stylist because my hair is very difficult. I have cowlicks and thick, frizzy texture. I know this but I also know it's possible to get the haircut I want. I was assured that I would be with an "expert" of short haircuts and get what I wanted to achieve. When I sat in her chair for the first time (and last) I told her about the past 10 stylists I went to that butchered my hair and she reassured me she would give me an awesome haircut... NOT. I went to cosmetology school in NYC and worked under a celebrity stylist, I'm not sure what her credentials are but Jfc what a disaster. With all of my cowlicks my hair should have been washed, straightened then cut, not cut wet because my hair lays differently when it's dry and straightened (how I wear it). I also told her that I wanted it symmetrical on all sides so it should have been parted down the middle and crossed checked, not parted on the side while cutting. She then blowdried my hair and cut it again. Again, not using a flat iron when I have thick wavy texture. When I straightened my hair the next day and went through it, it was the most ridiculous haircut I've ever gotten, it made me laugh. The ends were cut in all different directions and in a zigzag pattern, there were long hairs all over the place and the left side was 2 inches longer than right. I had to cut off a bunch of hair to even it out. When I called them back to see if she correct this atrocity I was told that she would be able to see me the following week and I would be charged another $75 to "fix" what I did to my hair lmao when I had already paid $100...as if I would give more money to the person that destroyed my hair in the first place?! It took me two hours but I was able to give myself the haircut I wanted, no thanks to Salon Sen. Bad experience, won't return and I don't recommend.

The pros are that he's a very nice guy, the right amount of talkative and personable, and to some degree he seems to know what he's doing. Regulars filtered in and out of the salon during my two hours there; he is clearly beloved by the people who come to him. I don't know what went wrong with my request. I asked for highlights, but I asked for them not too close to my roots so that I could grow them out cleanly -- sort of like a balayage. I didn't exactly want a balayage, but the general idea that the highlights looked natural without being streaks. When I came home and saw my hair under my own lights and mirror, I cried real life tears. It looks terrible. There is a halo around the top 4 inches of my hair where no highlights exist, about 2 inches of highlights in the middle that go from brassy to blondish, and returns to my natural color on the bottom couple inches. $200 later, and all I got out of it were terrible photos to send my mother and a ruined weekend of figuring out how to fix it before my upcoming event this weekend.
