I can't say enough good things about Shondi. But I will do my best. Twice I've gone to her and asked for a "makeover". I was tired of looking at myself and needed change. The first time I had no idea what I wanted. We discussed several ideas and she gave me her honest opinion as to what she thought would work and what wouldn't (I cannot pull off short bangs without REALLY trying...and I don't want to try that hard...) I also expressed that I'm a low maintenance girl who didn't want to come in for color and cut touchups. I walked out with a fabulous cut and color that looked awesome and grew out wonderfully. The second time I had an exact idea of the color, but no idea what style. She listened, offered up some ideas and I walked out looking better than even I had anticipated. I can't tell you how many compliments I've received since... In addition, she is a joy to be around. Cut and color can take a couple of hours and in the past I've been stuck with stylists that have either flat personalities or end up telling you about every drama they've ever gone through. I've been getting my hair cut and styled by Shondi for almost a year now, and I would not keep going back every month if she was not providing such outstanding services. You can come in with as little as no direction, or you can be specific down the T, and Shondi is guaranteed to have you leave happy. I have already referred as many as about seven clients to her, and each has been as satisfied with their cuts as I have been. They've even referred their own friends to her! I love Shondi! When I graduated from college and moved to Austin, I needed a haircut and happened to go to the salon where she worked. That was 5 years ago, and Shondi has been cutting my hair ever since. I have followed her as she moved salons a few times, and now she is at Grapevine working for herself!! Even when I moved away for 2 years to Washington, DC, I still waited until I came home to get haircuts by Shondi. Shondi is an artist - you should see her paintings - so cutting and styling hair is really an art form to her. She listens very well to what I want and really tries to give me the kind of haircut I imagined. (In the past, other hairdressers acted like they understood what I wanted but instead just gave me the latest style or their interpretation of what I described.) I have really thick, kind of frizzy hair, and Shondi has helped me figure out how to tame it, which products to use, and has shown me techniques to shorten my styling time at home. In the past I have always used a straightening iron to smooth out my curly/wavy hair, but Shondi has inspired me to go with my natural hairdo -- and she cuts it so it will look good both curly and straight. I brought a friend with me once to see Shondi who literally just wanted her hair cut straight across -- no layers, no nothing. I could tell Shondi was not used to such a simple request - and she thought my friend's hair *might* look better with some layers or more excitement. Shondi is hands down the best hair stylist I have ever worked with and I've been going to her now for the better part of 6 years. I have A LOT of hair and it's naturally wavy. I am also not the easiest one to please with my hair. I'm the person who doesn't want to change a lot, but wants to feel like I "made a change" every time I go in. Despite me being a diva - Shondi does an amazing job each and every time giving me a cut that's not only easy to manage, but grows out great. Her coloring skills are also beyond amazing. My friend's wife recommended Shondi to me over a year ago and I couldn't thank her enough! She is amazing in every way! She is so sweet and a joy to sit and talk to while she colors and cuts your hair. She listens to your ideas and offers some ideas of her own yet at the end of your appointment you have exactly what you wanted. I came to her with no color in my hair and now I see her every 6 weeks for a trim and every 12 weeks for a trim and color. She does an awesome job and I wouldn't go to anyone else. Shondi does great guy cuts too! I am a thirty something guy who struggles at times to keep up with modern fashions. Shondi has always been their to fix me up when I have let my hair go for too long and start to look like a homeless person. She gives me stylish cuts that fit my needs as a self employed guy who wants to look cool but not scare away potential clients. I am a fickle person by nature so I never get the same haircut. Shondi is just outstanding. As a person and a stylist. I have never written a review before, but she gets my curly hair just perfect! I have combination curls and can never find a stylist that knows what they're doing when it comes to these things. Shondi is an artist! She spent time talking to me about my hair, my look, she even asked about my job to get a sense of professional needs for my hair. I was cutting my medium to long hair significantly shorter and she took a lot of time to make sure that we were on the same page with the cut. I have frizzy, wavy hair and came in with it having dried naturally so she could see the natural characteristics of the hair. She did a dry cut first to see how the hair would react to the shorter cut - so brilliant! I was thrilled with the end-result and can't say enough great things about Shondi.
