I am an 85 year old man who has been treated by Dr. Batya first for essential tremor and…read moreultimately for Parkinson's. On my first visit she evaluated my condition for over an an hour. I had been examined by other neuologists, but none had demonstrated her thoroughness. I was pushing for a deep brain stimulation. She explained that my condition was a bit more complex. She opted for medication rather than surgery. The medication helped slow the progression, but something was still wrong with me. On a subsequent visit, after listening to my interest in brain surgery she asked if I would like a second opinion from Oregon Health Sciences University. I had thought about that, but was reluctant to ask for a second opinion because I trusted her and didn't want to offend. I didn't have to ask, she suggested it. So off I went. A commitee of docs seconded her opinion. No surgery. No Parkinsons. No essenrial tremor. Every doctor I had seen told me the s.me thing: "You do NOT have Parkinson's!!!!" Deep brain stimulation is out. Over the next couple of years, things got slowly worse. So Dr.Batya sent me back toOHSU to meet with Dr. Safapour, the aknowledged expert and big deal internationally. She asked me the same-old questions. And then she switched to questions and tests that were very different. She scheuled me for a DAT scan, after which (you guessed it) I have Parkinson's. She also started me on cognitive speech therapy. The point of this tedious story is that she hung in there on my behalf. She hung in there when others hadn't. She halfed my long-term usage lorazapam and began the switch to carbodopa-levadopa. ( Such a fun name.) Dr Bata also recommended therapy for emotional well being.. Further, she recommended that I go to a gym. My diagnosis is firm and the medication is graduarlly helping me get off of lorazapam., And a great personal trainer Jim Mitchel (with a masters degree in human physiology) has coached me through treatment emphasizing strength and balance. My wife, a full-fledged nurse, has been greatly impressed by my improvement. I still have good-ol' PK and always will. But I am grateful for the excellent medical care orchestrated by Dr. Batya. Negative stars. I could go on and on about how this doctor is not qualified for anything not…read moremainstream neuro but won't. Had to wait over 2.5 hours to be seen. Told me she couldn't/didn't want to deal with my neurological issues "even though I am an expert". This was told to me numerous times during the appt but was demonstrated zero times. She didn't know what common medications were and so many other issues I cannot even start to describe in this review. I have had neurological issues for 20+ years and because of having to move myself or docs moving, have had to find new docs over the years. She is the most inexperienced one I have ever met in any capacity. You have been warned.
